RiverClan loved greenleaf rain, weathered leaffall drought, loathed leafbare frost, and feared newleaf storms.
Podpaw stared at the nursery. The nests should float, but they weren’t, and a branch blocked the only entrance.
“We swim for them?” Pinepaw asked.
“We swim for them.”
Podpaw took a breath. Unlike his siblings, he wasn’t trained in diving. But Larchpaw and Firpaw were outside camp, and it would take the warriors time to get back.
There was a crack of thunder.
“We need to go,” Pinepaw said.
Podpaw exhaled, then inhaled again. He didn’t close his eyes as he followed Pinepaw through the water, the little light making things murky. Mistyfoot’s litter was trapped, and Mosspelt’s, and Leopardfur’s. He would do this for them.
