Match. Matching with someone else perfectly. Reki wonders if there's a chance where such a silly idea could become true. It's a bit stupid, he knows. But just imagining someone being your perfect match sounds a bit too much like a dream. Even if you are nothing alike, or maybe sharing the same thoughts or perspective of the world. Maybe your other half is someone you thought you would never like, or maybe it's the person you've always wanted. There's so many possibilities, yet Reki knows there's not even one reality where he might experience something like that.
After all, these things only happen in romance mangas, right?
Reki's younger sister, Koyomi, has a bunch of romance books hidden in her room. Reki only knows this because he caught her once hiding a book inside her closet.
And it's not like he's interested in that stuff or anything but anyone can be curious, right?
That's exactly how Reki ended up stealing Koyomi's romance literature and spent two days trying not to cry about it.
(Koyomi almost killed him when she found out he knew about the books).
Even after all that emotional train wreck, Reki felt a bit out of place.
Was romance always like that? Why did it feel like he knew nothing about it then?
Reki wasn't stupid, he even had a few girlfriends (When he was in grade school, but Reki thinks that totally counts for an experience or something.) and his mother had given him the 'talk' about love and all that boring stuff. So why was this romance book suddenly opening something inside him?
Laying on his bed the only thought on his mind is;
'Why now?'
It isn't until his eyes are completely shut that he forgets about it all.
So why is he thinking about it now? In the middle of lunch? With-
"Reki? Are you okay?", Langa stares at Reki as if he hadn't eaten in days. (Which is not true at all, but Langa seems to relate everything to food.)
Ah.
It's then when he realizes he's been staring off into space for a few minutes now, no wonder Langa looks so worried.
(Reki guesses Langa is mostly worried about the food, which of course has gone cold now).
"OH- Yes! Yes, I'm completely fine. I was just thinking about something.", Reki is a terrible liar.
However, Langa only shakes his head with a smile. He says nothing and continues what he was doing before, eating.
Reki glances down at his bento once and lets out a small sigh. His thoughts will not shut up about 'the topic' since that morning. (Reki thinks it might become a taboo topic soon.)
(Reki wore his signature smile as he stopped next to Langa with a skateboard in hand. Langa smiled like always and they shook hands like every time they met. Nothing unusual.
Yet Reki could feel his heart beating faster than normal. Was he nervous about something? He didn't remember having any exams that week, and he didn't forget to bring his sketchbook. So what-
Oh. Would you look at that, Langa got sunburnt.
His cheeks are a bit red, well more like pinkish.
Did he go to the beach? Or maybe skated under the sun without sunscreen?
His nose also looks a bit pink. Ah, has he always had freckles?
Langa's eyes also look a bit too blue. It reminds Reki of the sea-
WOW- WHAT WAS THAT- I- Langa !?).
"Reki?"
Said boy looks up from his bento to watch as Langa flickers his eyes between him and his food. He lets out a smile.
With both of his hands he offers it to Langa. "Here, you can have my bento- i'm not really hungry so i won't eat it."
Langa grabs it and shakes his head twice. "Thanks but I just wanted to ask if you were really okay? You look a bit out of it today."
It's true. Reki has been quieter today, and it might be (It is.) because he has been thinking about 'the taboo topic' all morning and also because Langa hasn't left his side since they met up. So yeah, that's mostly why Langa hasn't heard anything from him since morning. And it's worrying.
The day goes by with nothing else on his mind except Langa, but Reki finds he doesn’t mind it much.
Langa however, is another story.
