Work Text:
The sun might shine, the sky might be cloudless, but it isn’t a happy day for some people.
For Hunter, this day might be the worst one of his life.
As he walks to the house lot he and the love of his life have purchased, memories of her come back to him again.
Memories where she was still there…
Where Luz was still there…
They had purchased this lot so that there can be build a house there to spend the rest of their lives in, to grow old in, maybe even raise children in.
But Belos, Hunter’s uncle, had other plans…
That bastard killed her. He killed her just to make an example for others what the consequences of disobeying him are…
And now Luz is gone just because of that…
Normally, Hunter isn’t the one that cries easily, but right now, he allows himself to let a few tears burn in his eyes. No one sees it anyways.
Having his property deed certificate for the house in his hand, Hunter carefully opens it to see and reread the information again, but something immediately caught his eyes.
In the center of the paper, under the drawn lot in the middle, is drawn a heart in red colored pencil with the caption; “To grow old in. L.”
Closing the paper, Hunter can feel his heart sink to the bottom, as the tears in his eyes become thicker. He feels the desire to just beat and destroy his uncle to a pulp, but Hunter falls to his knees instead, as he quietly cries.
He wants Luz back… He just wants to see her, hold her, be happy with her…
He just wants her back…
Is that too much to ask…?
It’s then that Hunter can’t take it anymore.
As he lets out a scream of grief, his magic goes loose in an eruption. Hunter is too deep in his anguish to notice the house being constructed around him. But Hunter doesn’t notice or care.
But his magic isn’t done yet, as another eruption comes only seconds after the previous, turning Bonesborough into a 1950s subrub, along with the towns people…
But Hunter doesn’t care at the moment, as his magic seems to calm down again.
The next thing he sees is Luz…
Them standing in the living room of a supposed never-build house doesn’t matter to him, the strange fact that he can’t see color anymore doesn’t matter, the whole 1950s setting doesn’t matter.
What matters to him is that Luz, the love of his life, is standing in front of him again.
Deep down, Hunter knows this isn’t the real Luz, that she has already died at the hands of his uncle, but it just feels so real…
“Hunter.” Luz says, smiling when seeing him. “Welcome home.”
Hunter cracks a smile at that, tears of happiness burning in his eyes. Instead of letting them roll down his cheeks, he goes over to the Latina and hugs her tightly, happiness overwhelming him.
Yes, he is home…
