It was all when Kaidan Alenko finally rejoined the Normandy. He had been flirting with Shepard, hoping he was interested like he had seemed to be. Then he heard James Vega, as Kaidan and Steve Cortez were adjusting something on the shuttle.
Vega and Shepard were sparring. Shepard had taken his shirt off, and that had drawn not only Kaidan’s attention but just about everyone else as well.
"Distracted Alenko?" Cortez asked, leaning over to see just what held his coworkers' attention.
"Ah, just a little." He glanced again and sighed "maybe,"
Meanwhile Vega and Shep were done sparring and heading for the showers.
"Hey Loco, thanks for this." Vega said to Shepard.
Kaidan's ears pricked up, in all the time he had known Shepard had never been told his first name. It was common culture on a cruise to use only the surname when speaking to people or to address them by rank.
Kaidan did not speak Spanish. He had heard Vega speak a little but aside from thinking it was sexy language Kaidan didn't understand a word.
Shepard stopped dead on where Kaidan was standing. Grinning he looked at him and winked,
"Cortez, may I borrow Alenko?"
"Of course Commander!"
Kaidan had a moment of indecision, but he followed Shepard to the lift.
"Kaidan." Shepard’s voice was low and inviting "you know, you were checking me out,."
" I was…." Kaidan grinned, moving to give Shepard a quick kiss.
"Let me shower and maybe we can…. Talk some more."Shepard disappeared into the shower.
Kaidan wandered around the room, looking at different things and saying hello to the hamster.
He saw a paperback lying on the desk and picking it up he opened it and saw " To Loco, thanks. James."
It was enough, he had Shepard's first name.
Loco.
"So where were we? " Shepard asked coming out from his shower, smelling like some exotic fruit or other, wrapped in a towel
"Here?"Kaidan leaned towards him for a kiss. He was rewarded with a hungry, passionate kiss.
"Umm Kaidan. " Shepard sighed as he took Kaidan's hand and led him towards the bed.
Kaidan thought it was now or never , he loved this man and using his full name would mean a hell of a lot
" I love you Shep ." He said instead.
"Kaidan. I have loved you since you walked into my life." Shepard replied with a happy smile on his face "If it's OK I'm gonna keep loving you…"
"Yes, Loco I'd like that." Kaidan replied with feeling.
"What?" Sheard froze.
"Um your name.." Kaidan felt the heat start to flood his face.
"It's John." Shepard replied before he began to laugh "you heard James."
"I...yes." Kaidan was in a world of embarrassment, he felt Shepard pat his head.
"Loco, means crazy." Shepard added his grin getting bigger "If you like the name maybe I can get it put in officially? John 'Loco's Shepard… not a bad ring."
"I'm sorry. I'm such an idiot " Kaidan replied, his hands covering his face.
John moved to Kaidan and enveloped him in a hug,
"It's OK Kaidan, I'm not going to kick you out or make a ship wide announcement … it's just us. You and me . Just what I wanted, what I needed. Now come here."
