Work Text:
They walked along the rainbow bridge to join Frigga, whose silhouette became more distinct as they walked forward.
They were close enough to show the others that they were there together, but they kept their hands to themselves. They knew what they were, and that was enough for them. Until now.
Mobius, on the other hand, felt particularly bold and affectionate as he watched Loki for a few moments and wanted more. After all, their relationship was no longer a secret, Frigga had even given them her blessing. The only thing he didn't know was the custom on Asgard regarding public displays of affection.
Anyway, Mobius wanted more than just to walk by Loki. Part of him wanted them to touch each other as soon as possible. He needed that physical, tangible proof that Loki was his, that this was not some kind of dream from which he was going to wake up at any moment. He also knew that Loki felt the same way, they never lost an opportunity to touch each other, whether it was a deliberate or inadvertent brush or kiss.
The other unknown was Loki's reaction. If Loki was the first to not hesitate to show his affection in public, it was different when it came to his own mother. Mobius assumed, having no experience in this area.
At the same time, how could he know how Loki would react if he didn't try?
After all, he had done it many times before, launching himself without knowing how he would land, so he could do it again. He glanced at Loki a few times as they walked across the seemingly endless rainbow bridge, just admiring his profile against the blue sky.
But finally, Loki being the observant man that he was, turned his head to Mobius asking, "Is something wrong?"
Without answering, Mobius jumped in and grabbed Loki's hand as he continued to move forward looking straight ahead. But he was forced to stop because Loki froze in surprise. He turned his head towards his lover.
Loki's gaze went from their still embracing hands - which Mobius took as a good sign - to Mobius' face and said, "We're holding hands and walking toward my mother."
"I know," Mobius replied as his grip on Loki's hand tightened slightly. "And before you say a word, we never really agreed to never do this kind of thing. We just never did. But we don't have to hide do we? Unless you're telling me it's punishable by law on Asgard."
The expression of surprise turned into an expression of pure happiness on Loki's face and then he squeezed Mobius' hand in confirmation, as a way of saying that it was good. More than good.
Then Loki laughed, "You know Thor, don't you, the way he expresses his affection, it says a lot about Asgard's policy on public displays of affection."
Mobius laughed heartily, his shoulders still remembering the Thunder god's bear hugs.
Then Loki's gaze changed again, softening. He leaned towards Mobius, their hands still intertwined, and cupped his cheek with his free hand, running his thumb over Mobius' lips before kissing him for a long time, keeping the kiss soft and chaste.
Loki stood up, they exchanged one last look that perfectly expressed how they felt about each other, then keeping their hands intertwined, they continued to walk towards Frigga whose sweet loving smile they could now discern. No doubt she had not lost anything of their exchange.
In the end, Mobius had been worried for nothing.
**********
Frigga felt a surge of joy when she saw the two figures approaching in the distance.
She was happy every time one of her children visited her of course, but even more so when she knew her children were happy. And to see that Loki came not alone, she knew that he was happy.
Mobius was certainly not the kind of person she expected Loki to ever introduce to her, in fact she no longer believed Loki would ever introduce her to anyone.
Not that she thought Loki was not worthy of being loved, on the contrary, she loved him with every fiber of her mother's heart. But she had always been afraid that Loki would remain closed to love.
But fate had put Mobius on Loki's path and Frigga had found her son again.
Oh, Loki still had that spark of mischief in his eyes, but his eyes were now bright. Everything about him radiated the happiness of loving and being loved, of being accepted for what he was. And all this could be reduced to one word: Mobius.
Frigga had always been able to read people and Mobius was no exception.
Everything about him screamed devotion to Loki. His gestures when he thought nobody saw him, his looks, his words, the tone of his voice. But what spoke louder to Frigga was the way Loki reacted to it all. Acceptance and reciprocity.
She watched them walk towards her, close and not touching, when suddenly she saw Mobius grab Loki's hand and Loki froze in place with surprise.
They seemed to exchange a few words and then Frigga saw Loki lean in and kiss Mobius tenderly.
She could not prevent a small tear from running down her cheek, a tear of happiness at this scene as Loki and Mobius, still holding hands, resumed their path towards her.
Impatience outweighed everything else, Frigga walked in their direction, then once close to them, she opened her arms and said in a voice slightly veiled by emotion, "Welcome home my children!"
