all's well that ends well (to end up with you)

Summary:

Yuzu and Mei getting ready for their wedding.

Notes:

Hello!
I just wanted to post something on here and ... this happened?
Honestly, it's just fluff with little to no plot, but I hope you'll enjoy it anyways :)
The title is taken from Taylor Swift's song "Lover".

(There's a beautiful first dance remix that gave me the idea for this one shot:

Work Text:

Mei stood in the empty hallway, glancing down at her phone. 2:47 pm. The ceremony would begin in less than two hours.
'Don't be nervous. This is your big day, there's no reason to be scared!'

With that thought in mind, she took a deep breath and reached for the golden doorknob.
"Hey! It's bad luck to see the bride before the ceremony," a high-pitched voice squealed from the other side of the room, where a young woman was sitting in front of a mirror, now quickly turning around.
And suddenly Mei was looking into Yuzu's beautiful green eyes and all at once, all the worries that had been building up inside her seemed to dissolve into thin air.

"Oh yeah?" Mei pondered, now slightly smirking. "Does that rule also apply to two brides?"
The blonde's eyes widened and while Mei immediately went back to losing herself in her lover's eyes, she seemed to seriously consider the remark.

"No ... doesn't that mean it brings twice as much bad luck then? Or is it only bad when a husband sees it? Or ..."
The blonde kept on talking and during her rambling, Yuzu finally turned around to face her observer. And wow! She looked simply breathtaking.

Although they were wearing almost identical dresses, Mei thought that, while it suited herself, too, her bride-to-be was just perfect in it, like a princess in a fairytale.

Both their dresses had been designed by Yuzu, white, of course, decorated with little sewed-on roses and a veil that almost reached their hips. To finish the look, Yuzu had thrown in the cutest flower earrings and hair accessories anyone could dream of. In short, it - no, she was perfect.

"Mei! Are you even listening?" Yuzu giggled now. "Are you really that amazed by a dress? Who would've thought that day would come."

Mei's cheeks felt hot and she was sure she was blushing. Quickly, she tried to gather her composure through a flirty response. "Well, it just looks so damn good on you, I feel bad that I'm gonna have to tear it off of you later."

Now it was Yuzu's turn to turn a dark shade of pink, giggling even more. "If you keep that kind of talk up, it won't be much later and the wedding guests will be left waiting without us."

Mei chuckled and brushed a few strands of golden hair out of Yuzu's face.

"I love you," she whispered before giving her future wife a short kiss on the lips.

"Love you, too," she smiled. "And now get out, you're just challenging the bad luck! We'll have enough time to flirt later."

'I know. We'll have the rest of our lives to do that,' the brunette thought happily as she walked out of the room.

3:14 pm. Yuzu looked at herself in the mirror, pleased with her work. Well ... almost, she thought, as she pushed back the last loose strand of blonde hair.

She gave her reflection a quick smirk, like telling herself "Get ready for your wedding!"
This was her big day, after all. And Mei's, of course!

Checking her make-up for the final time, she pushed back the chair she was sitting on and got up. The wedding ceremony was gonna begin at 4:20 pm - they had chosen a wedding planner with very suspicious time suggestions, but Yuzu had to admit in the end everything had turned out wonderfully.

This meant she had more than an hour left and just when she was about to leave to look how everyone else was holding up, she heard a soft knock on the door, and her mother peeked through the crack of the door.

"It's me," she unnecessarily added. "Am I disrupting you?"

"No, no, I was just gonna leave," Yuzu answered before she excitedly exclaimed "Look, I'm done!", and started slowly spinning around so that Ume could admire her outfit - which she gladly did.

"Oh, honey, you look so beautiful!" Yuzu's mother now looked like she was almost more excited than her daughter.
The only response Yuzu could muster up was a giggle.

"I see, you're fairly excited," Ume smirked and Yuzu just happily nodded, looking like a little kid that had just been handed a huge box of candy.

Now her mom fully stepped into the room to examine her daughter from close up. Then she suddenly pulled her close to press a kiss to her temple which earned a slightly whiny "Moooooom!" at which the older woman could only snicker a little.

"So, tell me, are you nervous?"

Yuzu couldn't help but rethink the confident "no, why should I be?" that dared to slip out her mouth. Was she nervous? Excited, yes, thrilled, absolutely, but nervous?

What could even go wrong? Well, she could trip while walking down the aisle, it could start raining even though their big dinner was supposed to take place outside, someone could object once she and Mei were at the altar.
But nervous? Yuzu smiled, a genuine, for once mature, smile.

"No," was her answer. She knew from tomorrow on things could only get even better and that's exactly what she told her mother who appeared to be nearly tearing up at that.

"Mom, stop, you can't cry yet!" Yuzu protested.

"Sorry, I'm-" A, in Yuzu's opinion, slightly overdramatic sigh left Ume's mouth. "I'm just so happy for you. My girls ..."

Before Yuzu saw it coming her mom wrapped her up in her arms and Yuzu immediately returned the hug.

"Thanks, mom. Love you."

"I love you, too, honey."

Finally, it was time.

Mei stood in front of the huge wooden door that would lead her to a room full of people.

It had already been opened for her and with less than ten steps she would become visible to all these people.
People she had invited, people that had tagged along, people she'd known since her early childhood, and probably also a few complete strangers. All of them scattered across the room, yet all their eyes were gonna lay on her.
But only one pair of beautiful green eyes mattered in the end. And thank God she knew exactly where that person would be standing.

So she took a final, big breath as she took the first step. The first step to ...
To what exactly? She could think of quite a few things. Marriage. Happiness. The champagne she knew was waiting for her in the backroom. Her father, taking her arm and leading her down the aisle, just like Yuzu's mother had done it for her only a minute ago.

But most importantly: Her girlfriend, her fiancée, her bride, her soulmate.

'My lover, my Yuzu,' she thought and smiled as she took the second step and heard the soft sounds of Taylor Swift's song "Lover" playing in the ballroom where her own lover was waiting for her.

The third step. Now she could see all of it. Her father smiled warmly at her and reached out for her arm.

The fourth step. She turned her head and saw her. And at that moment Mei knew, from now on everything was gonna be wonderful.

Mei took the fifth step, full of faith, as Taylor Swift's words rang through the room.

"My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue.

All's well that ends well to end up with you.

Swear to be overdramatic and true to my lover."

It was perfect.
