No One Is Going Anywhere

Summary:

Sento and Banjou discuss about their new lives and if they would ever go back to where they came.
Based on the song How to Disappear by Lana Del Rey

Work Text:

It’s been 3 years since they started a new life on New World. Banjou was working at a clothing store and Sento was working on a physics lab, but normal physics this time. His favourite part is the car crashing simulations.

It was a warm Sunday evening. Their tiny house was far from the main area of the small town they decided to live in.

Sento was doing some Yoga, with mindfulness music playing on his AirPods. Banjou was lying on the grass, drinking some beer, eating from a bag of Cheetos and looking for an excuse to ask about something that was bothering him.

“What is this pose called? It seems hard”

“It’s a bridge pose. One of the most basic ones. Try it.”

“I’m good, I’m not as stretchy as you”

“You’re pure muscle and zero elasticity. But I’ll teach you some day”

Sento finished and lied down beside his boyfriend. His skin was warm from staying under the sun for so long.

“Sento… Do you remember our first fight against Kazumi?”

“How could I forget? ” He giggled and looked at the other “Who would have thought he would be our friend after that mess. But what about it?”

“Nothing. I was just thinking about those moments. It just comes back sometimes, with no reason”

“I know how you feel” He grabbed Ryuuga’s hand “If I don’t think about it for long, I wonder if it was even real. Having a normal life is…”

He didn’t get to finish. Their thoughts were lost. Ryuuga rolled closer and started kissing the tiny scars on Sento’s face, but was interrupted by their newly adopted dog, who jumped on the scientist’s chest.

“Oh, look who’s here! Are you jealous, fluffy boy?” Said Sento, rubbing the puppy’s belly for a while.

A couple of silent minutes passed. The sun was setting and it was finally getting dark. Banjou got the guts to finally say what he wanted.

“Normal life, huh? Being with you is the only confirmation I have that my head isn’t making up a story. Sento… Are you happy living a normal life?”

“Of course.”

“If you could go back to…”

“Never.”

“Don’t you rather create a crazy machine or weapon…”

“No, I would never go back” He said with a deeper voice “Nostalgia is like a drug. It tricks you, makes you think that things were better, and it’s so addictive. I rather live here. A stable job, a stable relationship. Thought they’re a bit different, we can still meet our friends. Love and Peace. What else can I ask for?” The auto lights from the backyard turned on. “Now tell me, Banjou, would you go back?”

Banjou turned and threw himself on top of his boyfriend and gave him a soft kiss.

“I’m not going anywhere without you”
