Draco had a mere second to cast a Stasis charm before his potion was beyond saving as a considerable weight jumped on his back. He cursed and waved his wand before peering carefully over the edge of his cauldron and sighing in relief at the paused process.
“You could have blown us up!” He told his koala of a husband. “What if I had fallen and knocked off the whole thing? Not only would we lose our floor, but we would also lose our feet! You should have warned me!”
“No time,” Harry murmured from where his face was smushed in Draco’s shoulder.
“No time my ass,” Draco muttered while wrapping his hands around Harry’s ankles and pulling him closer to fix their balance. He could carry Harry on his back for at least some time, but not while he was hanging on for dear life.
“Sometimes I just want to cuddle, okay? Is that so bad?”
“It is bad when it risks causing potentially fatal disasters. You could have called me from the door, and I would put the Stasis on and cuddle you without nearly having a heart attack.”
“What’s done’s done,” Harry shrugged and Draco gripped his legs more firmly at the shift. He sighed, knowing it was not worth the argument, especially since Harry was most likely feeling terrible. He was more reasonable when his feelings weren’t as low as they can get.
“The living room?” he asked to which Harry responded with a shake of his head and Draco lead them to their bed.
Once dressed in their underwear and cuddled closely under the covers, Draco began running his fingers down Harry’s back and through his hair in a fashion he knew Harry enjoyed. Honestly, Harry liked to tell people Draco was just a human version of a cat, but in actuality, Harry’s personality was way closer to a dog’s than Draco’s was to a cat’s.
“Tough case or idiotic people?” Draco asked lightly when Harry wrapped around him tighter and pressed a kiss to his shoulder.
“Both? Some rookie assigned with the cold case files decided that reorganising the entire archive area is a good idea and obviously, Robards caught wind of it and for some forsaken reason, decided that the archives are too full and we should try cleaning them out by solving cold cases. So now, instead of working on our open cases full time we all have to grill our brains over some weird bullshit back from the sixties or earlier. It’s a nightmare.”
“Any chance you’ll solve anything?”
“None whatsoever. I bet you at least half of those were like pranks or something that someone took too seriously,” Harry groaned. “I hate my job.”
“No, you don’t.”
“No, I don’t.”
“You just need a break every once in a while,” Draco told him and kissed his forehead.
“And some cuddling.”
“That too,” Draco agreed and then wrapped his arms around his husband. They lay there in silence, in peace for some time, listening to nothing but each other’s breathing.
“I love you,” Harry muttered after a while. “Thank you for cuddling me.”
“You’re always welcome. But warm me next time I’m brewing,” Draco reminded him and then added, in a saccharine voice, “And I love you too. Obviously.”
