Keep him

Summary:

Magnus is going to have to have stern words with his magic, but he also wants to see where this might lead.

or Magnus' magic decides it wants the pretty shadowhunter.

Notes:

This is honestly a load of nonsense that popped into my head and for some reason, I wrote it. So now, y'all can suffer with me 😘

Magnus magic speaks in italics since I imagine it as a sort of mix between telepathic communication and just whispering the words and sounding a bit like the wind.

Work Text:

Magnus watched the group of Shadowhunters leave. He hadn’t expected the hunters to turn up at his lair after he left them at the club. He didn’t actually mind, they had saved his life and there was something about the eldest Lightwood that fascinated him. The man was tall, dark and handsome, and pretty much exactly Magnus’ type.

Magnus could feel his magic buzzing under his skin, could feel it reaching out. Magnus sighed, his magic tended to be rather opinionated on certain things, perks of having a Prince of Hell as a father.

“What?” Magnus asked, letting his magic swirl around the room.

Can we keep him?

Magnus blinked at the question. “Erm, no.”

But why? his magic whined and Magnus would have laughed if he hadn’t been so confused.

“Because he’s a grown man and a shadowhunter. You can’t just keep one like a stray puppy.”

Magnus could feel his magic thinking, taking into consideration what he had just said. He felt a slash of fear run through him as a thought popped into his mind.

“And don’t you dare turn him into a puppy either,” Magnus added, knowing exactly what his magic was capable of.

...fine…

Magnus shook his head at his magic’s antics. He was still slightly confused as this was the first time his magic has ever reacted like this towards someone. Most of his past relationships, his magic stayed quiet, not giving any opinion at all. With Camille, it had openly expressed its disgust, disappointment and disapproval. But right now, it was winding around Magnus like a cat that wanted attention.

Magnus frowned when his magic stilled, suddenly going quiet.

“What’s wrong?” Magnus asked, feeling anxious.

His magic buzzed around him, and it reminded Magnus of something a child who had don’t something they weren’t supposed to.

“What did you do?” Magnus inquired, his tone a bit more forceful.

Nothing

Magnus was about to reply when he heard a knock at the door. He sighed softly before heading to the entrance. He hadn’t expected to see Alec Lightwood standing on the other side of it.

“Alec,” Magnus said in surprise, moving out of the way so the man could come inside. “Is everything alright?”

Alec nodded as he entered the loft, shifting his gaze around the room nervously. By the time Magnus closed the door and turned back to his unexpected guest, his magic had wrapped itself around Alec.

“Leave him alone,” Magnus scolded.

His magic huffed as it let go, hoving in Alec’s proximity. Magnus took a breath, calming his nerves before focusing on Alec.

“What can I do for you?”

Magnus watched as Alec twisted his fingers, clearly nervous.

“I don’t know?” Alec replied, glancing up at Magnus. “I don’t know why I’m here. It felt like I was being summoned?”

“Summoned,” Magnus repeated, his gaze drifting to the magic behind Alec.

You didn’t say we couldn’t summon him. You said we weren’t allowed to turn him into a puppy

Magnus pinched the bridge of his nose. “Alexander, I’m so sorry. It seems that my magic has taken a liking to you.”

Magnus watched speechlessly as Alec held a hand out, letting his magic snuggle into it.

See he likes us his magic said, joy radiating from it as it wrapped around Alec.

“Can I get you a drink, Alexander?” Magnus asked as he gestured towards the couch.

“Tea would be lovely,” Alec replied, his voice quiet.

Magnus summoned them both some tea before taking a seat in his favourite armchair.

“I’m sorry for just turning up,” Alec mumbled, glancing up from the mug he was cradling in his hands.

Magnus smiled at the man, “Alec, I’m the one who is sorry. My magic is the reason you’re here in the first place.”

Can we keep you? the magic suddenly asked, clutching onto Alec.

“Lillith,” Magnus huffed under his breath. “I’m sorry, Alexander.”

Alec smiled at him, blushing. “It’s okay. It’s nice ... to be wanted.”

Magnus raised an eyebrow at the statement but before he could say anything, his magic sighed happily.

Mine

Magnus’ heart skipped a beat when Alec laughed and patted it gently.

“Maybe someday,” the shadowhunter promised.

We will hold you to that
