“This is a problem,” Skull remarks.
“This is a problem,” Lal agrees, nodding her head.
It speaks of the seriousness of the matter when Lal finds herself agreeing with Skull, of all people.
The once-babies-turned-adults are gathered in one corner of the Vongola mansion, attending the annual Vongola ball meant to celebrate the continuation of alliances and allies formed over the years.
At the centre of the party, under the dazzling lights of the chandelier, is the Vongola Decimo engaged in a waltz with Reborn. The pair, unknowingly – or perhaps unknowingly only to the Decimo – have captured the attention of all attendees. One dressed in black, the other in white, both moving their feet impeccably to the beat of the music.
Reborn moves his hand to Tsuna’s waist, pulling the man closer to himself. If only to fend off the Decimo’s long line of suitors away, Reborn makes an exaggerated dance move that has Tsuna holding tightly onto Reborn. My sky, Reborn thinks darkly, This is me staking my claim.
“Reborn?” Tsuna makes a questioning noise, noticing the slight change in Reborn’s demeanour.
“Looks like your dancing isn’t not too bad,” Reborn brushes off the question, showing Tsuna that there’s nothing to worry about.
“I’m not so dame anymore, Reborn, plus with the amount of practice I had, my dancing better be up to par,” Tsuna mutters back, grumbling.
Reborn listens to him fondly, and thinks Indeed, you are no longer the boy I met ten years ago. The suit Tsuna is wearing does little to hide his lean figure, the mantle draped over his shoulders only highlights the confidence that Tsuna now wears like a second skin. The years passed have turned the boy into a man, baby fats gone in exchange of a more definitive facial structure, and while the fluffy hair has not changed, Tsuna now sports a clean undercut.
Incredibly beautiful, Reborn thinks to himself, not for the first time tonight.
“Why can’t Reborn just make a move,” Skull whines.
“He has, actually,” Fon mentions, amused, “Our dear Tsunayoshi is just oblivious to Reborn’s charms.” Fon has, after all, been audience to one such encounter.
He was taking residence at the Vongola mansion (the Arcobaleno now find themselves flocking to Tsuna for whatever reason they can find, having made a home in the Sky. Reborn is both aggravated and accustomed to it now) when Fon found the pair in the kitchen at the early hours of dawn.
A low murmur between the two of them, as Tsuna moves about to make morning coffee. Fon is about to make a noise to announce his entrance when Reborn says, “I want you to make me coffee everyday for the rest of my life, Tsuna.” Pausing his steps, Fon is curious to hear Tsuna’s response to what can only be a confession coming from Reborn, of all people.
“Of course, who else have you tortured to make coffee this good,” Tsuna laments, “After all the hours I spent and the number of cups of coffee I drank to perfect the recipe, you better drink this for the rest of your life.”
Unwilling to intrude onto the two, Fon walks away and decides to come back for his tea at a later time.
“You mean I have to witness this gay shit always?” Skull complains, bemoaning his fate.
“This is very amusing, finally a person impervious to the famous Casanova flirting,” Verde adds in his input.
Colonello starts laughing at that and claps his hand together to announce: “So! This calls for a plan. Tsuna is too good for that asshole Reborn, but they do make a good pair, kora.”
Hands counting some figure, Mammon says, “The damages to the mansion will decrease by a good ten percent if Reborn is in a good mood and not so cranky, I’m in.”
And so the Arcobaleno’s plan moves into action.
Lal starts off first by making a off-mention of how Reborn is an attractive man to many (not a lie, she just doesn’t mention that she herself is not included in that population). Tsuna frowns at that and asks instead if he needs to talk to Colonello about annoying Lal less.
Skull hurries by then to use Tsuna as a shield to hide himself because he asked Reborn When will you make a move and Tsuna is going to be taken away at this rate!
“Lackey,” Reborn growls out, “The only thing being taken away here will be your life.” Tsuna moves quickly to appease Reborn (“No shooting while we’re having a ball! In fact, no shooting at all in the mansion!”) and signals to Skull to run away.
“Man, if I wasn’t married to Lal already I would have asked for Tsuna’s hand,” Colonello comments and gets a kick in the leg by Lal in return.
Reborn and Tsuna have moved towards the buffet table and are engaged in some discussion when Verde suddenly deposits a drink in Tsuna’s hand, says it’s for the Decimo as thanks, and walks away.
“Thanks for what? The ball?” Tsuna questions.
“It’s probably spiked, “ Reborn notes, “Don’t drink it.”
Tsuna laughs it off, “Verde wouldn’t do that! He’s nicer now,” and is about to down the drink when Reborn takes the glass off his hands and finishes the drink instead.
He would, Reborn thinks vehemently, immediately feeling the effects of an extremely potent alcohol. What the fuck is in this? Reborn tries to walk only to stumble into Tsuna, who was about to admonish Verde.
“I’ll speak to Verde for you, but for now maybe you should move Reborn to a room?” Fon suggests, ushering them out towards the private wing. Ignoring the scene behind Fon (why is Mammon collecting money from the Arcobaleno?), Tsuna heeds the advice, props Reborn around the waist, and moves towards Reborn’s room in the mansion.
It takes a bit of shuffling and half-carrying-half-walking, but Tsuna successfully manages to put Reborn onto his bed.
Quietly smiling to himself at the shenanigans going on around him again, Tsuna starts to remove Reborn’s shoes and clothes to allow him a more comfortable rest. Just as he was about to go get a jug of water and some painkiller medicine, Reborn grabs his hand.
“Don’t go,” Reborn utters, “Stay with me.”
Tightening his hold on Tsuna’s hand, Reborn pulls Tsuna into an embrace, “…My sky, my heart, you’re mine, tesoro mio,” Reborn declares.
Head nuzzling into Tsuna’s neck, he mumbles, “Marry me, Tsuna.”
“Oh dear,” Tsuna says to himself, disengaging from Reborn’s entrapment once he realises Reborn has succumbed to sleep.
Gently running his hand through Reborn’s hair, Tsuna asks to the asleep Reborn, voice both fond and amused, “Maybe we should let them know that we are together? And engaged already.”
Dropping a text to Hayato to let him know of their absence and that they’ve retired for the night, Tsuna changes his clothes and settles into bed with Reborn. A hand draped over Reborn’s waist, Tsuna tucks himself into Reborn’s embrace.
Unconsciously, Reborn pulls him closer.
The next day, the Arcobaleno are once again gathered together, having stayed the night at the mansion.
“Pay up,” Mammon demands of them, “Tsuna had a ring on his finger this morning, and Reborn was wearing a matching one.”
Collecting his half of the earnings, Verde pushes his glasses up onto his nose and announces, “Science never fails. In vina veritas, as they say.”
All’s well that ends well, Tsuna smiles into his mug of coffee, eye lines crinkling.
Across him, Reborn sips his coffee and asks again, “Make me coffee for the rest of our lives, Tsuna.”
Laughing, Tsuna replies, “You already know the answer, Reborn.”
