Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

It was a new day. Hospital lights glaring down onto the mother and father, Karen and Jared. They looked at their baby girl, grinning. To the doctors it looked like they were happy, but in reality what they were planning would have the doctors take her away.

“So, what are you going to name her?” A nurse asked the parents.

“How about….Tengel?” Jared looked at his wife.

“It sounds cute!! Let’s go with Tengel!” Karen smiled sweetly at the nurse.

“Alright!” The nurse smiled. “If you’d like, you can go home in a few hours.”

“Thank you! We’ll leave then.” Jared smiled, watching the nurse leave.

The parents stopped smiling and looked at each other, letting out a sigh. The two silently spoke amongst each other, occasionally looking at Tengel. What would the two do to her? That was for them and only them to know. Though, over time, it might become the two’s worst nightmare.

“You may leave now.” A nurse said, standing in the doorway.

“Thank you.” Jared said, grabbing Tengel, helping Karen get up afterwards.

Karen steadied herself, smiling at her husband. “Let’s go.”

Jared grabbed everything they brought, putting Tengel in the baby carrier. He put the keys of their car in his pocket, grabbing the baby carrier, and walks out of the room as the nurse helps Karen out of the room and out of the hospital.

Jared put the baby carrier in the car, buckling it in. He got in the driver's seat, starting the car and driving it to the door of the hospital for Karen to get into the car so they could get home.

“Have a good day!!” The nurse smiled as Karen closed her door.

Karen waved to the nurse as Jared drove away from the hospital. Karen let out an annoyed sigh at the baby babbling in the back seat. Karen turned up the radio to drown out the baby.

“So what exactly are we going to do with her?” Karen asked Jared, who hummed.

“You said cat right?” Jared asked. “Cats and dogs are supposed enemies which would make her and Mocha against each other.”

“Good, that’s what I want. I don’t want them getting along.” Karen huffed. “Them two getting along would get everything we’re doing destroyed.”

Jared nodded, driving out of town into the outskirts. On the opposite side of where Jared is driving there’s a forest. Dense, rumors of the forest all over the town. One of them being that whoever goes in, while they're walking, they never come back out. Though, that’s not necessarily true. It’s just something made up by a bunch of drunk teens who somehow got everyone to believe it. Though, some people have driven through the forest and have stated they’ve seen houses. Some reported that they’ve seen ghost-like figures. Police drove through and didn’t see anything so they shrugged off the reports.

Jared pulled onto the gravel driveway, parking up close to the house. He turned off the car and exited it. Jared opened Karen’s door and helped her out, watching as she walked to the house. Jared closed the door and opened Tengel’s door, grabbing the baby carrier. Jared walked up to the house, locking the car. Jared walked to the door and unlocked it, turning on the light and letting Karen walk in.

“Mocha! You mutt come here!!” Karen yelled for their son.

Mocha ran into the mudroom, “Yes?”

“Take your...sister and take her to your room.” Jared said, holding out the baby carrier.

Mocha nodded and took the carrier, his ears pinned down against his head. He went down to the basement, going to the little area that didn’t have anything that the two’s parents were working on. Mocha sat down the baby carrier, grabbing the crying baby.

“Hey, hey it’s okay..shh. Shhh.” Mocha looked around the area, seeing baby formula.

Mocha put Tengel back into the baby carrier, going over to make some formula for her to drink. He put some water in the bottle, reading the can for the formula. He put a few scoops in, putting the lid back on to shake it. Mocha looked at the bottle and then looked at Tengel. He walked over to her, carefully picking her up and giving her the bottle.

“Hungry?” Mocha asked, putting it to the baby’s lips.

Tengel sniffed and took the bottle, drinking the contents. Mocha watched her, humming a soft tune as his tail rested softly beside him. Mocha smiled as he watched his sister, tail wagging slightly. Mocha pulled away the bottle, to make sure Tengel was breathing. Tengel looked up at her brother, babbling to him. Mocha giggled and nodded, making the baby grin and babble even more. Soon footsteps descending down the stairs were heard which made Mocha’s eyes widen and put the bottle back against Tengel’s lips. Mocha watched his parents walk into the little area.

“Give us Tengel, we have to do something.” Jared said.

“No!!” Mocha yelled, holding Tengel close to his chest.

“Mocha.” Karen spoke sternly, stepping towards the two. “Give us Tengel.”

“No!!” Mocha growled, going back towards the corner, causing Jared and Karen to look at each other.

“Fine.” Jared said, going towards the stairs, Karen following behind him.

Karen closed the door behind her. “We have to do something with the mutt if we want to work on Tengel.”

“I know, but what should we do?” Jared asked.

“Throw him out maybe?” Karen suggested, walking into the living room.

“He’s five. We can’t do that legally.” Jared said. “Though we can do it.”

Karen lied down on the couch, smiling. Jared picked her up, carrying her upstairs to their room. He gently laying her on the bed. Jared laid next to her, falling asleep. Karen moved closer to her husband and fell asleep, having a peaceful sleep, while Mocha and Tengel we're struggling to even fall asleep in the cold basement.
