Work Text:
Felix had met this new guy, Changbin, not that long ago. But that didn’t mean the blonde boy wasn’t already head over heels for this new guy. After Seungmin’s structured ways and sometimes cold distance— or maybe, according to Chan, after trying and failing miserably to read Seungmin’s obvious signs of attraction— Changbin was like a breath of fresh air.
He was sweet and smart, and he had this cozy feeling to him, just with a few words he could make Felix feel as if he was being hugged. Changbin was everything Felix wished for in a guy. He made him smile, sometimes he would smile so big his cheeks would hurt and his stomach would be colonized by butterflies and all kinds of other cutesy flying creatures. He was flirty and sly, enough to leave Felix’s mouth agape and his ears beet red. He was intellectually compatible with him. Hell, was there anything Felix wished was different about this guy? Not really, no.
Changbin had slid into Felix’s dms one night after commenting on one of his rant threads on Twitter about how much he hated having to work a job he absolutely despised just to save all his salary to finally get the fuck out of his parent’s house for once and for all. At exactly 2:22, a notification popped up on Felix’s phone, distracting him from the fanfiction he was reading.
i heard you hated capitalism
hi bro
yeah why
just wanted to ask you if you wanted to seize the means of production together
Never had Felix thought that a line so lame would actually make him giggle. But who was he kidding, cheesy pick-up lines always worked on him. There was no specific reason as to why, he just enjoyed a little cliche from time to time. Maybe it was all the books he read that caused him to set standards so high no man could Ever meet them, which meant that yeah, he liked the cliche pick-up lines because those were the only crumbs of romance he ever got.
After laughing, Felix proceeded to accept the stranger’s proposal and began their plot to destroy the capitalist way of living. They had a wonderful, no, spectacular time together. They discovered, soon enough, that they matched pretty well, they had the same Starbucks order, they liked colours from the same palette, they even listened to similar music. This alone had Felix’s heart fluttering. That was until they followed each other on Instagram. After that, Felix might have died a little.
Changbin was, by far, the most attractive guy Felix had ever been attracted to, which meant a lot because he once had a crush on Hwang Hyunjin from dance class. He wasn’t your typical pretty face, like Chan or Minho, he was beautiful in his own way. He was beautiful in a way he didn’t even know existed until it was too late and he was imagining how the bridge of his nose might feel under his fingertips and the song his heart would sing when he laid his head on his chest.
He was beautiful in a language completely foreign to Felix, who frowned as he tried to understand the hurricane of unknown words that struggled to describe just how delightful his face was. His eyelashes framed his eyes in such a perfect way that Felix wanted to stare at him for hours just to see how he gracefully blinked. Light seemed to always be on his side, and maybe even God, too.
Needless to say, it took Felix about two days to develop a wholehearted crush.
Everything went perfect, Felix was over the moon. They would face-time regularly, staying together until late at night, watched movies together, they sent each other memes and TikToks. Every single thing they did made Felix believe wholeheartedly that they were perfect for each other.
They had already half-jokingly half-seriously planned the day they would meet. They lived in the same city although lots of kilometers away from each other, but all that Felix’s brain could vomit was the same thought, over and over again; their hands, together. So as they planned how they were going to have a picnic, Felix offered to bring brownies, and Changbin said he’d take him to take a walk on the beach, Felix’s heart was beating at a concerning speed.
“Let’s meet up, this Saturday” he blurted out one night, as Changbin brushed his teeth. Changbin finished what he was doing before, very calmly, saying “Sure, let’s.”
So they set up a meeting place, the coffee shop by that one park that Felix adored, whoever got first would order for the other and wait there. They said they’d meet up at 2:22, just like the first time they met.
Felix spent the whole week planning every single detail. He spent days doing hair masks, face masks, exfoliating his skin, fixing his nails, he even went to the hair salon and got his roots retouched. He told Chan all about it, the older told him to be careful and have fun. He would even talk to Changbin himself about it. He’d tell him how excited he was to finally meet him, how it seemed like they had known each other their whole lives, how happy he was.
The day came and Felix started getting ready hours before, just so that he got there earlier, as he wanted to order for the older. He painted his nails a pretty pink colour, Changbin’s favourite. He put on eyeliner, and blush on his cheekbones. He wore the outfit he had planned and ironed the night before just a cropped hoodie with some slacks and chunky platform boots.
He left his house early and sent Chan his location. On his way to the park, he couldn’t stop smiling. He was finally going to meet the guy of his dreams, maybe even hold his hand. Colours seemed so pretty today as if the sun was shining just for them and their magical date at Felix’s favourite place.
The blond boy got there at 2 and ordered before picking the table with the prettiest view and sitting down. He waited until the order was ready to take a picture and send it to Changbin with the caption
waiting for u.
Felix didn’t touch the coffees nor the blueberry muffins and instead played a game on his phone to relax and distract himself, he was so nervous his legs were shaking. It was going to happen, finally. Maybe he had met the one. As he was checking the time he got a notification.
He didn’t know why but his gut told him something wasn’t right. He usually got those ideas every day, so he threw the idea away before opening Changbin’s text.
hey love, im so sorry but something came up and i cant go
pls dont hate me
Felix stared at his phone, blinking. He looked around, and the coffee shop was beginning to get crowded. Right. He frowned and read the messages again, maybe he had misread them. He was sure Changbin wouldn’t do something like that.
what happened??? are you alright??
A few minutes passed, and then the three dots appeared on the screen.
yeah im good my stomach hurts tho and i dont feel well enough to leave
That was fair. He had gone through some very bad stomach aches himself.
im so sorry :(( hope you feel better soon ♥
see you another time
Felix put the phone down and nodded, looking up. Why did he feel like crying? It’s not like Changbin had stood him up. He at least had the decency to let him know he wasn’t coming so it wasn’t all bad, right? He looked at the untouched coffees and decided he was not going to throw away his money, and with that, he took a sip of his latte.
He grabbed his phone again, this time to call Chan.
“Lixie? What happened? Are you alright?” he immediately asked, surprised to hear from him when he was supposed to be enjoying his date with the love of his life.
“He…” Felix paused, trying to get the tears to actually stay in his eyes where they belonged, “he had a stomach ache…”
There was a pause behind the line.
“Oh, Lixie” Chan sighed “Do you wanna talk about it?”
“I’m sure he’s just feeling really sick right now. It's fine! I’m fine,” he said, desperately trying not to cry in the very crowded coffee shop. “Look at the bright side, at least now I have two lattes and two muffins instead of one!”
“You had already ordered?” he asked, Felix could feel the pity leaving Chan’s mouth.
“We had agreed that whoever got here first would order. It was my idea, I had planned to get here earlier so that I could treat him to coffee,” he paused, “I thought it would be romantic.” Tears fell down his face. “Thank god I didn’t buy him flowers, that would’ve been dumb.”
“Baby, I’m so sorry. Do you need me to go pick you up?” he offered.
“Not really, I want to be alone. I just called to let you know, in case you see me sad today.”
The two best friends stayed on the line for a little longer, Chan eventually got Felix to ask the waitress for extra napkins. He finished his muffin and his latte and asked for the Changbin’s to be made to go.
He couldn’t stand to be with people so he took an uber back to his apartment and threw himself into bed to properly cry once he got there, not caring about the white duvet. He cried for what seemed to be forever. He cried until there wasn’t a single drop of water left in his body, and then replaced that lost water with Changbin’s latte, which only made him cry more.
Felix stayed in bed for the rest of the day, mindlessly scrolling through social media. He didn’t hear from Changbin again. But not all had been in vain because that day, Felix had learned the hard way, not to get his hopes up.
