Work Text:
Black and Gold.
Ever since she was young, Gold have always had a fascination towards fables and legends. Storytime was her favourite hour, especially after an exhausting day of grooming and training. Every night, events of bravery and miracles filled her dreams, giving her motivation to push herself forward the very next day.
One day, Gold hoped to personally witness the birth of a legend and be the one to spread the word far and wide.
At this moment, Gold bitterly smiled at the scene unfolding in front of her. Resignation rest in her eyes as the feeling of helplessness flooded inside her. There was nothing she could do. Nothing to be an aid of. Even as red liquid began to cough up from her partner’s mouth, Gold would stand at the side-line as a witness she set herself to be.
‘Trust me on this one, Glo.’
‘ I understand. Take care.’
Those were the words they had parted with. Gold remembers the blinding smile her partner gave before she went into the battlefield. Always a reckless fool she was. To this day, she wonders what her recruiter saw in the girl to have her join in their pursuit of balance. Was it the same as what Gold had seen when she agrees to be her partner? To be her shield and sword as she would do for her?
Gold was tired, weary but desperate all the same back then. Not long after her coming-of-age ceremony, her kingdom was attacked by the neighbouring kingdoms or so people had thought. The enemy had impersonated themselves as them to spark a war between the three kingdoms. Gold would also been fooled if not for the fact the other royal children had also been taken captive after the guards preached their claims. Gold had been lucky enough to escape from their watches and went to find her parents. She was left confused when nothing came up after she used her ‘search’ ability. There was no clogged up feeling she often felt when the information was intentionally dampened. Her mind became blank, empty as if the information did not exist.
The thought had frightened her. Her parents were some of the most powerful people in the kingdom in terms both technical and combat ability. Gold refused to believe they had been defeated in such short time. Her hope however, shriveled as time passed by. She had to set aside for such idealistic dream in favour of rebuilding the ruined kingdom alongside with her brother. It was a shocking turnabout no one had expected. After decades of battle, the enemy had vanished without a trace. There were few witnesses stating they saw the enemy turned to dust but no proof of evidence to back it up.
Gold decided to not look a gift horse and instead working to improve their kingdom’s security and welfare. It was a slow progress. They suffered too great a loss from the conflict. There were also the mysteries cracks appearing randomly in the world, sucking anyone who gets near to who-knows-where. That was until she met Aria and her team. She can count with her two hand the number of humanoid DATA like her in the land so when they arrived, she immediately acted and imprisoned them.
It was a strange sight for someone to resign themselves so easily like Aria. The girl said she was used to such response. The only made shift lie Gold could picked up was the name she first gave. The information had herself reeling. For the first time since the first attack happened, Gold opens her books of legend. The words she had spoken fits in the legends in the book. A sanctuary of guardians. Strange visitors from other worlds. It also would explain the cracks they were dealing as dimension rift, sucking ‘insider’ to other worlds than their own.
For once in centuries, hope blossom inside her. Maybe her parents were never gone, only stranded in some place out of her reach. Despite having people protesting, Gold entered a partnership with Aria by sharing an oath.
‘As long as you’re willing, I will be there to support you.’
“Whatcha thinking about, princess?”
Gold turns her attention to awaken leader. “Just the past.”
“That’s odd.” Aria mused. “You always prefer just knowing instead of actively thinking about it.”
“I never once thought I’d be the first to revive our ancient tradition.” Gold confessed.
“Ah, so you’re talking about Soleil dan Miyo.” She nods, winching as she did.
“Among other things.” Gold replies as she adjusted the bedding to the patient’s comfortableness. There was a pause before Aria broke it.
“I got some intel about some sparkling couple lurking around a dimension. I haven’t pin-point the exact universe but–”
“I’m willing.” Gold eyes meets obsidian. “I’m willing to wait.” She said softly. It was at these times Gold felt the weight of their shared oath. “My parents aren’t weak to fall nor would they allowed themselves to be. You already carried the wishes of your teammates. Less, I put more burden on your shoulders.”
“You’re my partner.” She points out.
“Which is exactly why I’m doing this. Rest. You have battle well.”
“I did, didn’t I?” Not a second longer, Aria fell asleep with a smile.
Outside the private bubble they stayed, celebration occurred across the realms. The new monarchy has received the blessings of other leaders and thus has officially been crowned. Whispers of a lone champion in the form of an ‘outsider’ began to be murmured by many.
This was the legend she had yearn to witness.
“This time, Uno. It’s my turn to help you.”
