Chapter Text
Veronica entered the fluorescent building that was 7-Eleven, sighing as she took her first step inside. She was a 22 year old woman who was studying to be a teacher, lame for what she could achieve, but honestly, she was starting to give up on having a successful life. She lost the motivation throughout the years, starting at her and her high school sweetheart's breakup.
She grabbed a cup from the stand and filled it with the cherry slushy flavor, her eyes sparkling at the sight. She put a lid on it, grabbed a straw and bag of barbeque corn nuts, and headed to the cashier who was too distracted by his book. She cleared her throat to get his attention, and when he picked his head up, both their eyes widened.
The familiarity of her ex-boyfriend was the first thing she noticed, with the dark curly hair, slight freckles, and tall figure, until she realized... It was him. They had the same million thoughts rushing through their heads, them both just standing there in shock. Their hearts raced at the same pace.
"Veronica." He gulped, and she placed her items on the counter before she could drop anything. She smiled a little, "Jason..."
JD bit his lip. "W- What are you doing here?" He asked. He didn't even consider that she could be there for college, Yale perhaps. Unless she decided to go to a smaller one-
"Uh- Like, at 7-Eleven or... This general area?" She raised an eyebrow, and he shrugged. "Either or-"
"College... Yale- You?" She answered then returned the question, him shrugging again. "Yale too- But why haven't I seen you around?" He raised an eyebrow at her, and she looked down at the ground. "I just started this year, I ended up taking a massive break from just school in general after high school." Veronica told JD, who nodded. "I get it-"
The two just stood there awkwardly for a few moments, before Veronica pushed her products closer to him so she could check out, and JD's eyes widened as he forgot he had a job to be doing. "Oh shit- Sorry-" He said extremely quickly, rushing to 'scan' the slushy and corn nuts, even though the store's scanner was broken.
He told her her total which was $6.25, and just before she left, she ran her fingers through her hair, "Wanna get dinner once you get off of work? I don't know when that is, but- If you're available..." She asked, shrugging. "Catch up with each other?"
JD smiled at her, "... Sure, I'd love to- Uh- I get off at 5?" He raised an eyebrow, checking the time. It was currently 4:30.
"I'll give you my number?" She said, and he nodded, pulling out a napkin from the counter, along with a spare pen he had with him randomly and giving it to her. She wrote her number down, and gave the napkin to him with a smile. "I'll see ya-" She spoke finally, and he nodded, giving her a small wave before she left with her stuff.
