Dead people and where to find them

Summary:

Looking down at the gravestone of a boy who was just too good for this world – a boy who deserved so much better – that reality finally sunk in.

He isn’t coming back.

And it was all his fault...

Work Text:

“Just pray that you’ll be born with a quirk in your next life, and take a swan dive off the roof of a building.”

Those words, said by a stupid, fucked up kid, were the words that would haunt one Katsuki Bakugou for the rest of his life.

He didn’t think the kid he’d said it to would actually do it, though that was absolutely no excuse. He hadn’t really thought at all when he’d said it.

But now he can’t stop thinking. Can’t stop thinking of the green haired, green eyed boy that would never get to live the life he deserved. The boy who would never get to live life at all.

The boy he would never get to see again.

He would never see that bright smile again. He would never see those big green eyes, looking up at him like he’d hung the stars in the sky. He would never hear those stupid red shoes slapping on concrete behind him as the boy yelled the nickname he would never hear again.

He would never be Kacchan again.

He would just be Katsuki Bakugou, the boy who killed his…

His what?

He wasn’t the boy’s friend, not after he’d pushed the boy away and tormented him relentlessly for years. Not after he pushed the boy to kill himself.

But, dammit, if he didn’t wish he’d been the boy’s friend. He wished he’d never pushed him away. He wished he’d never laid a finger on the boy. He wished he’d never said a cruel
word to the boy. He wished he’d never said those last words to him.

But wishing gets you nowhere. Wishing won’t bring him back.

Looking down at the gravestone of a boy who was just too good for this world – a boy who deserved so much better – that reality finally sunk in.

/He isn’t coming back./

That’s when Katsuki finally broke.

He sobbed into his mother’s chest as the sky watched, sun shining brightly on the small group of people standing at the grave of the boy who would never come back.
Kneeling on the floor in front of Katsuki was a short woman with dark green hair, sobbing for her only son, and wishing she had noticed his pain. Wishing she had helped him, saved him.

Katsuki had admitted everything to her the day before, and knew he deserved so much more than the hard slap and the words “Get. Out.” that were said to him through the woman’s gritted teeth as tears streaked her face.

He walked away from the grave that day and made a silent promise to the boy.

"I’ll be the best hero."

He’d do it for the boy whose dream was doomed from the beginning.

He looked over his shoulder and the name that he’d never forget stared back at him.

/Izuku Midoriya/

The small group that was gathered in front of the grave was too consumed in their grief to notice the small figure that watched them, carefully hiding behind a willow tree with leaves as green as the hair of the boy they were mourning.

And they didn’t notice when the figure disappeared, never to be seen again.

Just like the boy whose coffin lay empty beneath the earth.

Notes:

I might continue this eventually, but for now I'll leave it here.
Can you guess who was watching them?
Also, how do some of you do italics on AO3?
