Work Text:
“You look sad,” a voice at their elbow said. Diggory looked down to find a ghostly boy staring up at them with wide eyes. It wasn’t the ghostly boy they were waiting for to return home, but one cherished as well.
“I am sad.”
“Is it because your friend is away with that pretty cloud person?”
“Yes,” Diggory said. “I know he will return to me, but I still miss him.”
Al nodded as if entrusted with a great secret. “Do you know what helps me when I am sad?” he whispered and Diggory leaned down to hear him better.
“Is it playing a game?” they hazarded a guess, because Al seemed to like them. They weren’t sure if they were in the mood to play one, but it couldn’t hurt either.
“Yes, but you know what helps even more?”
“Will you tell me?”
“A hug,” Al said gravely.
Diggory nodded. “A hug is always nice.”
Al floated up a bit and put his arms around Diggory’s neck. His form sparked with energy and Diggory could almost feel a weight against their chest. “There, now you should feel better,” Al declared.
Diggory smiled and found that they indeed felt better.
