Chronic Love

Chapter Text

It was a warm spring day, I had decided to go to the library. Greeting Ms. Abbott as I walked in, I headed straight to the fiction section located in the back of the library. That’s when his hand met mine, we were reaching for the same book. My green eyes met his hazel ones. I let go of the book, blushing. We stood there in a quiet silence.
That was until he spoke up, “You can have the book, I’ve read it a thousand times already.” He laughs nervously. I stayed quiet; taking the book and smiling at the kind stranger. I went to Ms. Abbott’s desk and handed her the book as well as my library card. I walked back to him.
“Thanks for letting me have the book.” I mumbled. We stood there for a moment, I believe he was thinking of a way to respond.
“No problem.” He looked at the clock on the wall. He seemed nervous, almost as if he was contemplating what to say next. He spoke again as he was fidgeting with the chain around his neck. “Would you like to join me for lunch? I’m going to Jake’s diner.”
I simply nodded, following him as he walked out the library and around the block to Jake’s diner. Walking into the small diner, sitting down at a table and looking over our menus. We properly introduced ourselves, “My name is Elizabeth, Elizabeth Jones.” A waiter had already given us our food moments before. I took a drink, waiting for his response.
“Well Eliza, my name is Jayson; Jayson Parks.” Jayson smiles. I blush at the nickname, handing him my phone. He puts his number in, then hands it back. We walk out of the diner, Jayson turns to me with a wide grin on his face.
“It was fun hanging out with you Eliza, I hope to do it again sometime.” The grin is still on his face when he walks away. I start walking home, I’m all giddy inside. Walking into my home, I wave at my mom and head to my room. Since I had a late lunch I headed straight to bed, a smile on my face. What happened the next day though, nobody saw coming.
