Work Text:
The winds swirled around them, as Link and Zelda looked to the sky where Anjean and the other lokomos have disappeared into the heavens, holding eachothers hands tight. They were quiet for a long moment before either spoke.
Eventually Zelda took a deep breath as if to steady herself. Reluctantly letting go of Link’s hand, she wrapped her arms around herself to actually feel her skin, that she was real. “We… should get going.” She looked far in the distance to see the castle, her home. They, for some reason, had been deposited by the Spirit Tower, but it still will be a long trek back.
But as soon as she took a step forward, her knees suddenly buckled under her weight. Link dove forward to catch her before she hit the ground. He used one hand to sign to her, Are you alright?
Zelda averted her eyes from him, not wanting to deal with how much she was worrying him. “I don’t really think Malladus was really taking care of my body much. Ohh, I’m so hungry. Screw everything else, I’m raiding the kitchen when we get back.”
Link seemed somewhat reassured by this, cracking a smile. Do you think you can walk all the way there?
“Well I’m not staying here, that’s for sure. Unless you have another suggestion, I’m walking there.” Zelda glared at him, daring him to say that she shouldn’t go.
Link smiled good naturedly and put his arm around her, supporting her.
“Link your injured too. Because instead of getting away, like I said , you decided to run towards the exploding train.”
It’s fine , Link signed, We’ll support each other, like we always do . And with that, they started to make their long trek to the castle.
When they got close enough to see the castle gates they stopped, mouths agape.
Link broke into a huge smile and yelled, “My train!” Immediately he sprinted for it.
Zelda, who on the other hand seemed to be rooted in place due to disbelief. “It was here the whole time? It couldn’t have been slightly inconvenienced to appear closer at all?” Zelda yelled, seemingly at the heavens.
Because there it was, despite all odds. The Spirit Train was there, as beautiful as it had ever been. In fact, the bright colors of the train seemed brighter than ever, and some of the damages that Link was unable to fix, seemed to have suddenly disappeared. Link jumped out of the train and ran towards Zelda, pulling her towards the train.
She let Link indulge himself for a little while, showing her that everything seemed to be in perfect working condition. But after a few minutes she decided enough was enough. “Look Link, I’m glad you have your train back and everything, but I was kinda forced away from my home for a while, y’know having my body stolen and everything, so I would kinda like to head back now.”
Link gave her a bit of a sheepish smile, although he didn’t look that guilty. They hopped off the train, and headed into town. She could hear the whispers of the townsfolk and the guards as she headed to the castle. She became astutely aware of the mud caking her torn dress, and how she was leaning heavily on Link.
She glanced at Link, and he was looking down, purposely not meeting anyones eyes. Showing up like this must have been hard on him as well. She changed her position so that she was holding his hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
It seemed to help Link, as he smiled at her as they walked into the castle. But it could only last so long, because of course one of the guards had to pull his sword out and point it at Link as soon as they came into view.
“Stop! Release the Princess!” The guard yelled, brandishing his sword widely.
Link immediately released her hand like he had been burned. “How dare you!” Zelda yelled at the guard. “He didn’t kidnap me? Are you stupid? Come on Link.” She grabbed his wrist and started marching the two of them towards the castle.
“You didn’t have to do…” Link tried to protest, but she cut him off.
“Yes I did. Spirits know that you wouldn’t do it yourself.” She mumbled.
After they entered the throne room, they finally found a friendly face. Zelda ran up to him and hugged him. “Teacher!”
“Zelda, my dear!” He hugged her tight, “Is this really you? Let me look at you dear.” He held her back and looked at her and smiled gently. “Oh spirits, it really is! You must tell me everything!”
“I will, I will! Oh it is so good to see you! But first I am very tired and so very gross feeling. So I would just love a bath and some food.”
“Oh, oh of course! Oh, how silly of me, I’ll have a bath drawn immediately, and I will make sure they prepare a feast for you, all of your favorite foods.”
“Oh! And for Link of course!” Zelda said, gesturing towards Link. Link saw Zelda and Teacher suddenly looking at him and gave a shy wave.
“The engineer? Well, of course he should be rewarded for driving you back home. But doesn’t that seem a bit much, dear?”
“What? No, he’s the only reason I’m here now! He deserves the same respect you give me!”
Link ran over to them and signed, Zelda please, it’s alright! I can just head home. It’s not a big deal.
“It is a big deal, Link! After everything we did, after everything you did, you deserve at least this!”
“Princess, I’m sorry! I didn’t realize that this boy did so much! Of course, I will have a bath drawn up for him and a room made.”
“Thank you.” Zelda took a deep breath. “I’m sorry, Teacher. I didn’t mean to…”
“It is alright, my dear. You’ve had a rough time, I’m sure. Why don’t you get cleaned up, and you can tell me all of this later, alright?” He leaned down and kissed her on her forehead.
Zelda smiled at him. “Alright, Teacher.”
Link had never seen such a nice place. Who knows how expensive everything in here was. The bed sheets alone probably cost more than everything that he had ever owned. Well, maybe not the Lokomo Sword, but that didn’t really count. It didn’t feel right. He didn’t want to have Zelda feel like she owed him anything. He didn’t do any of it to get a nice room, or a nice bath, or respect.
“Sir? Your bath is ready.” One of the servants said to him.
“Oh, um thanks.” The servant continued to stare at him. “Do you… need something?”
“Oh, no sir, we are just waiting to assist you with your bath.”
Heat rushed to Link’s face. “Oh… do you have to?”
Confusion swept across the servant's face. “I suppose not, helping is traditional, but we could step outside for the moment if you’d like?”
Link breathed a sigh of relief. The servants all seemed to get the hint and headed out of the room. Link then took off his uniform and then sank into the bath.
This water… the water was warm. He had never bathed in warm water before. He closed his eyes and sank into the bath. This… felt good. Ok, maybe it’s not so bad that Zelda made them make him a bath. Plus, he was caked in layers of dirt. It felt so good to get that cleaned off of him. He couldn’t remember the last time that he had bathed. Maybe the last time that they fought Byrne? No, it was longer than that. He had been so busy running around with Zelda and trying to get her body back, it must have been the day before his engineering ceremony.
He didn’t really realize how little he had been taking care of himself. He’s been so worried about everything, it was hard to justify giving him a moment, especially when Zelda couldn’t eat or sleep.
It’s not as if he wasn’t used to being covered in dirt and grime, working with Alfonze and the trains. But just traveling for so long, this felt so incredibly nice.
He closed his eyes and allowed himself, for once, to relax.
Zelda tried to wait for Link, she really did. But she was just sitting around a whole table absolutely filled with food. She wasn’t able to eat for months, and it definitely didn’t feel like Malladus ate anything while he stole her body. So as much as she was loath to admit it, there were only a few moments of restraint before she tore into the food.
Link came back about half an hour later. “Link!” she exclaimed. “Where have you been? You have to try some of this cake, it's one of my favorites.”
Link blushed as he signed back at her. Sorry, I fell asleep .
Zelda decided not to push him too much on that. Yet, at least. It’s been a tough few months for both of them, and there were a few times where she had to drag him away from the engine car and into the passengers’ car to get some sleep. Well, figuratively at least. “Well, at least wake up enough to eat some food! It. Is. So. Good.” She leaned forward, getting incredibly up into his personal space to make her point.
Link rolled his eyes at her and pushed her away, but sat down next to her at the table and grabbed some of the food. Despite not looking nearly as starved as her, he hungrily grabbed food and started to scarf it down as well.
They ate hungrily for a while, with Zelda giving Link some of the food that she really liked and thought that he would enjoy. But after a little while, someone cleared their throat and they looked up to see that Teacher entered the room.
He walked over and sat next to Zelda. “My dear, won’t you please tell me what happened? You had been gone for so long, and I was just beside myself with worry.”
“I suppose I’ve made you wait long enough.” Zelda took a deep breath and tried to steady herself. “I had suspected for a long time that something was going to happen at the Tower of Spirits, and made Link here take me.”
“You did what? Young man, that was incredibly irresponsible to risk the Princess’ life like that! You should have reported to-”
“Enough!” Zelda had stood up, her fists clenched at her sides. “Link has done so much for me, for this kingdom , for no reason other than I asked for his help! I will take no more slander against him, even from you!” She glared daggers at Teacher, daring him to argue with her.
Teacher’s eyes flickered from Zelda to Link and looked for a moment as if he was going to still object, but then held his tongue. “My apologies, please continue.”
Zelda nodded and sat back down. “Once we got to the Tower, the tracks had suddenly disappeared. It all happened so fast, Cole was there, but he had revealed himself to be a demon. Before I knew it, Cole had stolen my body.”
“The Chancellor kidnapped you?”
“Well, he took my body… I’m not sure if that counts. Do you think it counts?” she asked, looking at Link
Probably , he signed.
“I’m not sure if I understand dear. How could he have taken your body if he did not-“
He turned her into a ghost , Link signed.
Teacher let out a loud gasp. “Oh my spirits! To think that you had gone through such a horrible event! Are you alright?” He leaned over and put his hand on her forehead. “Are you feeling alright dear?”
Zelda batted the hand away. “Yes, yes I’m fine. Look, I got my body back and everything!”
Though he still looked incredibly terrified, Teacher listened to the rest of their story with only a few more interjections. He was obviously incredibly upset at everything that Zelda had to go through.
“Oh, my dear. You shouldn’t have had to go through such a thing. How could we have let that happen? I need to make sure that no danger could ever come to you again. I’ll go and tighten security around your room! Yes, yes, I’ll make sure no danger will ever come to you again!”
With that he rushed out of the room, most likely to talk to the captain of the guard.
Well that went well , Link signed.
“Oh shut up,” Zelda put her head in her hands. “Why did I think that anything would change? They never listened to me before? It was always ‘Zelda don’t worry about a thing,’ or ‘Zelda we don’t need your opinion on this incredibly important state matter, it's not as if you're the princess or something?’ I was stupid to think they would start listening to me.”
Link put his arm on her shoulder, trying to give her some support. I don’t know if I’ll be able to do anything, I don’t know politics or noble standards. But I’ll be here no matter what and I will support you.
Zelda peered out from behind her hands and smiled, “At least I have you.” Zelda took a deep breath and stood up. “I’m going to head to bed. It’s been a long day.”
Link looked up at the ceiling, eyes wide open, as he laid in bed. No matter what he tried to do, he couldn’t seem to fall asleep. This should be the best night's sleep that he’d ever had. He felt completely and utterly exhausted, having to fight Maludus and having to trek back all the way to the castle. Not only that, but this was the most comfortable bed that he had ever laid on. But he just couldn’t fall asleep.
Link got up and walked out to the balcony. He breathed in the fresh night air. It figures that the first time since the engineer ceremony he had a comfortable bed, and he was wide awake.
CRASH
Link looked up at the sudden noise, and saw the very last thing he would have expected to see. It was Zelda, hanging off of the balcony above him.
“What.”
Zelda looked down and saw Link was watching her in shock. “Link! Help me down!”
Link tried to grab her and help her down, but Zelda slipped and fell directly on Link. He laid there for a moment, seeing stars.
“Link! Link!” Zelda violently shook him, trying to wake him.
“I’m fine, I’m fine.” Link mumbled. He sat up and looked at her. “What in the name of the Spirits are you doing?”
“I couldn’t sleep. So I came here.”
“Can you not just, y’know, use the door.”
“Ugh,” Zelda rolled her eyes. “And deal with all the guards being like ‘Oh Princess you should just stay in your room. You’re too fragile to have independent thoughts.’”
“So, why are you here then?”
“I…” Zelda hesitated for a moment, as if she was unsure what to say, “you just understand me. I can talk to you.”
Link softly smiled at her. “Alright. But could you get off me?”
Zelda suddenly realized she had been laying on top of Link since she had fallen from the balcony. “Oh, Link I’m sorry, I didn’t realize!”
Zelda got off of Link, allowing him to get up. “Just a second.” Link ran into his room and pulled his blanket off of his bed. He ran back out to the balcony and wrapped the blanket around both Zelda and him.
She smiled at him, “You’re too sweet, Link.” She wrapped the blanket around her and stared at the night sky. “Do you think that she is disappointed?”
“Who?”
“Anjean. She’s up there, watching down on us, right? Anjean and all of the lokomos and spirits.”
Link looked at her curiously. “I think so. The whole thing confused me a bunch, but I think that she is watching us. But why would she be disappointed?”
“I thought that after everything that happened, I would be able to fix everything. I would get my body back and come back, and would be able to change things. People would listen to me or something… I don’t know.”
“Well, it’s only been a day. I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out how to make people listen to you.”
“Yeah, right. You heard Teacher. He just wants me to be sheltered and never have an opinion.” Tears pricked her eyes as she looked towards the sky. “And he’s the one who liked me.”
Link looked up at her, he hated seeing her upset. He reached out and grabbed her hand. “Even everyone here is not listening to you, you're the stubbornest person I’ve ever met. It might not be easy, but you can make them listen to you.”
Zelda gave him a watery smile. “I don’t know what I did to make you have so much faith in me.”
“Well, stabbing Malladus in the face certainly didn’t hurt,” Link said, smiling coyly.
Zelda laughed and gave him a small shove. “Oh, shush you! That’s nothing!”
“Nothing she says! Princess Zelda defeats the scourge of the land that has plagued it for centuries, but it was nothing to her!”
Zelda burst out in laughter. “Oh, you’re horrible! You know that wasn't what I meant!” Despite her protests, she had seemed significantly cheered up. “So, what’s up with you, Link? Enjoying the castle.”
Link lost his smile and looked up at the stars. “Well, it’s nice enough I suppose. But…”
“Link? Come on, it’s just me. You can talk to me.”
Link sighed deeply. “I just don’t feel like I belong here, y’know? It’s just so different to everything I’ve known before. I can see everyone looking at me like I don’t belong here. I’m not exactly a noble or some fancy pants politician. I’m just me.”
“Well to be fair, they are absolute idiots. If they can’t see how great you are, that’s their problem.”
“Zelda!” Link’s face heated up.
“Well, it’s true. You saw my spirit and immediately agreed to travel across the continent and risk your life. If they decide to judge you even after you did all that, they have no place in my kingdom.”
“... I don’t know. Don’t they have a point? I'm from Aboda Village, I’m just an engineer. I don’t know anything about being all refined and junk. Even the guards here don’t like me. Maybe I should just leave.”
“Well, I know people aren’t treating you as they should. But,” Zelda squeezed his hand close. “I want you to stay.”
“You do?”
“Of course! I mean, I won’t make you stay, but I don’t know if I could do all this without you. I know you have a life outside of helping me, you just got your certificate and everything, but if you would stay… it would just mean alot to me.”
“It would really help you?”
“Yeah, of course! I mean with these stuck-up buttfaces here, I never know you I can trust. There's Teacher, but he doesn’t really understand that I need to be able to act, and not just be protected. But… I can trust you. I can undoubtedly trust you, after everything we’ve been through. If you wanted to stay, I can’t even say how much it would mean to me.”
Zelda’s eyes were staring at the floor, resolutely not looking up at Link. But Link could see that her hands were shaking. “Alright,” Link said. “I can stay.”
Zelda’s face quickly whipped around, with a bright, but still nervous smile. “Really? I mean, are you sure?”
Link rested his head on her shoulder. “Yeah, I’m pretty sure.”
After that, they rested against each other, watching the stars, until they fell asleep.
They woke with a loud knock on the door. Their limbs were tangled against each other, Link was drooling in his sleep on Zelda’s shoulder, and Zelda was lightly snoring. They both groaned awake, untangling themselves from each other.
“Ugh, my neck,” Zelda said, sitting up. “Oh, spirits. I never snuck back in.”
As if on cue, there was loud knocking on the door. A loud voice yelled from the otherside, “Open the door post haste! We are searching for the Princess!”
“Just wait a second!” Zelda yelled back. She helped Link stand back up. “Oh, I hope I didn’t get you into too much trouble.”
Link signed, It’s fine .
They walked over to the door and opened it to see two guards and Teacher standing outside the door. “Oh, my dear! Was something the matter? How come you were here?” Teacher just seemed concerned about Zelda, but the two guards were eyeing Link with mistrust.
“I just couldn’t sleep, so I came to talk to Link. We just happened to fall asleep. Is there something wrong with that?” She glared at the guards, daring them to say otherwise.
“No, no of course not Princess. But please just tell the guards next time?”
“Fine,” she turned around to Link. “See you at breakfast alright? I’m going to go get ready for the day.”
Zelda left down the hallway to go get ready for the day. She could feel the guards' eyes staring at her. She could tell what they were thinking. It wasn’t fair that she had to find excuses to talk to her best friend. During their journey, there had been so many moments where they had nothing to do but talk to each other. Especially her, she physically couldn’t talk to anyone!
She reached her room, and went to the bathroom to get ready for the day. Ugh, she looked like such a mess. How did her hair even get this messy? She barely even moved in her sleep! She usually liked her long hair, but hated dealing with how tangled it could get. And was that drool? Did Link really drool on her shoulder?
She finished getting ready for the day, putting on less of a fancy dress than she usually wore. After finishing getting ready, she made her way to the dinning hall. Link was already waiting for the entrance.
Good morning Zelda! Link signed.
“Morning. What are you waiting for?”
Oh, the guards wouldn’t let me inside without you. But it’s fine! I would have waited for you anyways.
“Really, Link? You need to not be such a pushover sometimes.” She grabbed his arm and pulled him inside. “Come on, there’s something I want you to talk about.”
After they sat down and started to eat, Link signed What did you want to talk about?
“I just want your opinion on something. I was thinking of calling a meeting with my advisors and the other nobles.”
I mean, that seems like a good idea. Why are you so nervous about it though?
Zelda absentmindedly stirred her fork in her breakfast. “I just don’t know if they will take me seriously or not. What if they just assign me another Chancellor Cole?”
Another demon?
“No, just another buttface that tries to control what I can do and where I can go.” Zelda said bitterly. “I know they just think I’m a dumb child, if I do this how can I possibly convince them that I can lead Hyrule.”
Well, I’m not entirely sure what exactly you should say to convince them. But I think you have to talk to them. If you don’t try to assert yourself, they will just keep walking over you. I think if you put it off for too long, they might be less likely to listen to you.
“Ugh, why do you have to be right? Since when were you so smart?” She stood up from her seat. “Well, we should get going then. We have a lot to do to prepare for the meeting.”
We do?
“Of course Link! We can’t impress anyone looking like we just woke up! You’re still wearing pajamas! I can’t wear this dress there, no one is going to be impressed with this. It’s not nearly fancy enough! Let’s go!”
...But I haven’t finished breakfast yet. It’s hard to eat and sign.
“Fine, fine. Eat, and then we’ll get ready.”
After Zelda set everything up for the meeting, and spending an obscene amount of time making sure they looked fancy enough for the meeting, the two of them stood outside the large, metal doors standing before the consul room.
Link turned towards Zelda. She was staring straight forward at the door. Link tapped her arm so she would look at him. Are you alright? he signed.
“I’m fine. Well, I’m not fine. But I have to do this, I have to be able to have some autonomy over my actions.” She stared resolutely ahead and opened the large doors.
As they walked in, a long, imposing table was sitting in the middle of the room. As they walked in, the consul turned around to watch them. Each person seemed to be dressed strikingly extravagant, so much different from the average folk that Link had acquainted on his journey. The colors of the robes were incredibly bright, many had large obstantigious jewelry, and they all had their hair done up in very interesting hairdos. Link absentmindedly wondered if their large hair ever got too heavy or fell off their heads.
Zelda walked around to the head of the table and sat down at a large throne-like chair. Link stood behind her, arms respectfully at his side. He felt so incredibly out of his depth here. Battling his way through the Tower of Spirits or facing down demons and monsters was one thing, but this had such an uneasy weight to it. He wasn’t sure what he would be able to do.
Zelda took a deep breath, “Thank you for agreeing to meet with me. I have called everyone here to inform you of the recent events involving my disappearance, the treachery of Chancellor Cole, and the spirit tracks.” Zelda told them nearly everything that happened, excluding any emotional or personal events. She clearly tried to be as professional as possible, trying to make everyone see the seriousness of the situation.
One of the fancy looking counselman spoke up, “Thank you for informing us of this Princess. You have clearly been through alot here. We will take care of everything else. Unfortunately with Chancellor Cole gone, we will need to find a new advisor for you.”
“That’s not all that I wanted to say. I have a duty as the Princess of this land to protect it. However, with the control over me that Chancellor Cole had, I have been unable to perform my duties. Without Link helping me discover what was going on, I truly believe that we would be at the mercy of the Demon King.”
“What are you trying to say?”
“By giving me an advisor to make decisions for me, we are weaker as a kingdom. I am plenty capable of making my own actions. After everything I had been through, I should be able to help protect our home.” She looked around at the table, some of the nobles did seem to be starting to believe her, but most of them still looked incredibly doubtful of her.
“With all due respect Princess, you just don’t have the experience to have the ability to make such decisions. It would just be wiser to leave it up to us nobles.”
“Lady Aristide, would you please just listen to-” Zelda was interrupted by Link tapping on her shoulder.
Can I say something, Zelda ? Link signed.
“Of course Link, you have the floor. Teacher can translate for anyone who needs it.”
Thank you. Link then turned towards the nobles. I have traveled all across Hyrule. I have witnessed her selflessness, her wisdom, her courage. She was willing to risk everything for her kingdom, and I saw her strength as she plunged the sword into Maludus. Not only does it hurt not to have our princess at arm's length, but it would only make Hyrule incredibly strong to have a leader such as Princess Zelda.
Everyone stared at Link stunned, for him to make such a passionate speech like that. Zelda looked at him, tears springing to her eyes, overwhelmed that Link believes in her so much. Talking was never Link’s forte, whether he was talking aloud or signing. So for him to sign such a thing… well it truly made her heart swell.
Even looking around at the nobles, they were starting to look more and more convinced. Aristride spoke up again, “Thank you for your advice, but we can’t just take the word of a simple engineer. I’m sorry, but at the end of the day your opinion does not mean that much.”
“May I say something?” An older noble spoke up, dressed much more modest than Aristride. “I remember the days of Queen Tetra quite well. She would be proud of someone much like young Princess Zelda here, someone bold, smart, and courageous. I think that if she was here, she would want the princess to be able to take charge.”
“Very well. I believe that I have made my opinion clear, as had Goodwin and the Princess. We should vote on the issue. Anyone who thinks that the Princess should gain more liberties and authority say ‘aye.’”
A large amount of ayes sounded through the room. “And any opposed, say ‘Nay.’” There were a few nays, but not enough to change the majority.
Aristride looked incredibly disappointed, but continued on. “Alright, we have a majority. Princess Zelda shall be given more authority and more liberties. Now to other matters, we need to discuss the economic situation…”
After the meeting Zelda and Link quickly went up to her chambers. Link closed the doors, and as soon as they were closed Zelda tackled him in a big hug.
“Oh my spirits, we did it! We actually did it! I didn’t think we would actually be able to, I mean they are all just so stuffy and controlling but they actually listened to us! Even Aristride couldn’t stop us, that butt! Oh Link, thank you so much!”
Link tried to sign while still in a hug, but after realizing he couldn’t he stepped back. Thank me? What for?
“What for? Link without you, I don’t think that would have gone so well. I mean you gave the whole speech about how amazing, I mean you hate talking in long bursts like that, but you still did that?’
Well, yeah, but of course I did that, you needed my help. Link looked strangely, confused why this was such a big deal for her. They’ve helped and bailed each other out plenty of times.
Zelda punched him in the arm. “Well most people wouldn’t do that for me. You need to stop putting yourself down so much, it’s super annoying.”
But-
“But nothing! In fact my first royal decree is for you to stop minimizing your accomplishments so freaking much!”
Fine, fine! We both did good then!
“Yeah we did!” Zelda cheered, hugging Link again. “I’m gonna be able to help my people! I’m gonna be able to leave my room whenever I want to, I don’t have to deal with people pretending I’m made of glass!”
Link gave her a soft smile, seeing her so happy.
“What?” Zelda asked, “Why are you looking at me like that?”
Link averted his eyes and blushed as he signed. Oh, it’s just that you have grown so much since we first met. I’m just proud of you, I guess.
Zelda blushed deeply, “Link you can’t just say stuff like that!”
But you asked!
“That’s not important.”
Sure.
“Oh, shush. Come on.” She pulled him out to her balcony. Looking out from the balcony, they could see the entirety of Castle Town. The sun was setting, bathing the town in a beautiful golden light. “Isn’t it beautiful? I love this view. Whenever politics or something got too much, I would look at this view, seeing the people of Hyrule. It just puts everything into perspective, you know?”
Link looked at her, happily sharing her special spot with him and smiling brightly, and smiled back at her. Yeah, I think I get it.
“Well, have you figured out what you want to do with your life yet? Now that things are looking up for me, I would hate to stop you from pursuing your future.”
Link looked up towards the sky. I still don’t really know what I want yet, honestly. I’ve always thought I knew, that I wanted to be an engineer. But now, I don’t know if that’s all that I want from life. But I do know one thing.
“Oh?” Zelda asked. “And what’s that?”
Whatever the future holds, it’s going to be better now that I’m facing it with you, Zelda.
Zelda smiled at him, and Link smiled back, and took Zelda’s hand in his. They stood there, hand in hand, ready to face the future together.
