Work Text:
College student Y/N always struggled to keep up with schoolwork and housework equally, but somehow she always managed to do everything on time.
When she was younger, Y/N found a small and sick cat between the dumpsters near her parent’s house. She took him in, cared for him, and got him healthy enough for him to go on his own, but to her surprise, Kuroo, the cat, stayed with her.
Throughout her last years of high school and even when she moved away for college, Kuroo was there for Y/N and she was there for the cat.
To be completely honest, the cat wasn’t just any cat. At least not anymore. Somehow, one day Kuroo found he was able to turn into a human for just a couple of hours a day. Any normal cat would use that opportunity to eat or go about in the human world, but Kuroo wasn’t just any cat. He was Y/N's best friend and according to that movie, they always watched together, with the talking toys and a cowboy with an astronaut, friends are there for each other. No matter what.
So, what could Kuroo do to help her? Showing his human side was out of the question, like the toys in the movie, they never told the kid they were able to talk. Coming to the conclusion that he could help with some chores like cleaning the house and washing clothes, simple but meaningful things. Helping with every little thing he could and of course, Y/N wouldn’t notice since she was busy with college and the different jobs she hustle in between.
A particular phase of their life together that Kuroo didn’t want to repeat, was when she got a boyfriend. His name was Daishou.
Kuroo got a little concerned since in her first college year Y/N broke up with her boyfriend and for some reason that the cat couldn’t understand, she had bags under her eyes. In his opinion, she was starting to look like a raccoon which wasn’t very nice. Why would she choose to be a raccoon instead of a cat? Cats are way better according to Kuroo.
Kuroo still remembers the douchebag. Daishou was eight times taller than him, on his cat form, of course, and believed to be better than the cat just because he was a pro volleyball player. He just wished he could have scratched his face a couple of more times than he normally did.
Although his human didn’t make the best decisions in life Kuroo was happy they got to spend it together.
“You know Kuroo? Sometimes I think about how amazing it would be if you were human.” Y/N murmured as she fell asleep in her bed.
Noticing how her breathing grew to a steady rhythm, Kuroo got up from her side and strolled to the bathroom. There, he turned human, putting on a yellow shirt and a pair of white shorts that belonged to her ex-boyfriend. As Kuroo got out of the room, he closed the door behind him so he wouldn’t disturb her sleep while he did his everyday tasks.
“You have no idea” Kuroo whispered back as he started to wash the dishes.
