Date Night

Kendra was on cloud nine. Strolling the city night, her hand in Steve’s as they made their way back to the compound.

“Do you mind if we take a quick stop? There’s this little bodega on 5th, I knew the owner's grandparents growing up and always say hi if I am in the neighborhood.”

“Sure,” She agreed, squeezing his hand. They walked in peace and silence towards the spot.

“You go in, it’s nice out. I will wait right here.”

Steve smiled and leaned to give her a quick kiss before heading inside. Kendra rested against the wall on the corner of the building, leg perched behind her. She brought out her phone and started scanning through various apps. Around the corner near the alley, there was a crash, she paused her scrolling, found silence so went back to scrolling.

2 minutes later she heard it, it wasn’t loud, but it was enough to peak her interest, a muffled voice. She turned to the right and looked behind her through the window of the bodega. Steve was laughing with the owner, she didn’t want to bother him. Tucking her phone in her back pocket she kicked off the wall and turned the corner into the alley. That’s when she saw it.

Two men held a woman against the wall, the woman was clearly struggling to getaway. Kendra shook her head and walked forward towards them.

“Hey!” She yelled, starting the attackers.

“Move along lady, or you’ll be next.” One of them sneered at her. They stepped away from the woman who slid down the wall in pain. The one closest to the woman flipped a knife, “We have no problems with you.”

Kendra laughed, “Well I have major issues with men or anything for that matter hurting another person, so it seems I have a major problem with you.” She continued to walk closer. “Now if you would kindly step away from the woman, we can settle this.”

“No way bitch,” The one on the left charged her, she easily used her powers and tossed him aside, slamming him into the wall.

“Stay down,” She snapped and then turned back to the one still standing by the woman, “Now, looks like you got something to say. Chest all puffed up like that.”

“You just made a huge mistake,” He said, twirling his knife, “I’m gonna cut you up real good.”

Kendra chuckled, “I would like to see you try,” Her body began to glow as she moved in closer. “Now, last chance to step away from the lady. I’m done asking nicely.”

He made a step forward and she rolled her eyes, body fully illuminating, she raised him into the air with ease. “I am done playing.” She turned to the girl, “Hi, if you could be so kind and run into the bodega around the corner to let my very handsome boyfriend Steve know what is happening and call the authorities while I handle these guys.”

The girl looked at her like Kendra was insane. Kendra gave her a smile, “You will be fine, they won’t be bothering you anymore,” She squeezed the man in the air, “Will ya?” He struggled weakly against her hold. The girl stood up and ran, hopefully turning the corner into the bodega.

“Now, time for us to have a little chat.”

“We were just-”

She felt the woosh and a blur fly past her, which turned out to be the lid of a dumpster, slamming into the other assailant who had awoken and was rushing to attack her.

“I believe the lady told you to stay down.” Steve snapped walking down the alley.

Kendra smirked and looked back for just a second, “Oh hey Babe, you got my message. How is the girl?”

Steve walked past her over to the man located under the lid of the dumpster. He kicked the weapon away from the knocked-out assailant, “She’ll be fine, thanks to you.” He turned and looked up at the man floating, “Now how about setting him down, the authorities will be here soon.”

“No need to tell me twice,” She released her grip and the man slammed into the ground. Kendra crouched in front of him. “Next time you think about hurting someone, don’t.” She pushed herself up and wiped her hands on her jeans. Steve shook his head and held his hand out to her. She happily took it and they walked out of the alley as the authorities ran past them to take care of the men.

All in all, date night was pretty good.
