“I just realized we’re not Facebook friends,” Shinya casually commented as he swayed in his office chair.
“Mhm,” Daichi hummed, not taking his eyes off the screen.
“Bro, why is all your shit on private?”
“Not everybody leaves their profiles wide open,” Jun said, “Like you.”
Chikage shoved his glasses up on his nose, “You really shouldn’t do that, Shin.”
“Yea yea, but this isn’t about me,” Shinya waved them off, “This is about Daichi,” and pitched his voice, “Who is the little Mrs. Sawamura, you ass?”
Daichi snorted just a little, “Is that pertinent information to do your job?”
“Yes.”
Daichi glanced over, “I’m sure it is.”
“It is!” Shinya insisted, “I know Jun’s Fiance and Chikage’s last three girlfriends. You’re the only one I don’t know and I know for a fact that you’re married cuz you’ve got a damn ring and have ever since you walked in here which means you got married right quick after high school. Who is it? High school sweetheart?”
At that, Daichi did smile a little, “Yea. High school sweetheart.”
“Oh!” Jun looked interested and whipped out a notebook, “Which one was it? I know you played volleyball. Is it that cute manager?”
“If you did any research you’d know she’s engaged to someone else,” Chikage pushed his glasses up again, “He attended the same middle school with the Karasuno girl’s volleyball Captain.”
Very true… except Michimiya lived in Tokyo and he did not.
The other three didn’t need to know that though.
Daichi’s enjoying this game they’re playing.
They’ve been at it for almost a month now, trying to guess the mystery spouse...
He pulls his phone to see if Koushi texted him and found a short string of texts that included a shopping list. The time had him getting off in an hour so he had plenty of time to go get those and get home to make dinner before Koushi got off from the school. He fiddled with his ring a little and put his phone up.
The shift ends and he runs his errand before getting home and starting dinner. Koushi gets home about an hour later and accepts the glass of wine with a hearty thank you before hauling himself up on the countertop to watch Daichi finish dinner. Daichi squeezes one of Koushi's knees and flips the meat.
None of the guys let up on the ‘figuring out Daichi’s spouse’ mystery for the following week. Shifts were normal until that weekend and then the weekend brought them being asked to cover half a shift while some of the other officers were sent elsewhere for some emergency elsewhere in Miyagi. Daichi thought he heard something about a manhunt but wasn’t sure. It didn’t matter what it was anyway since he had to stay either way.
He took a quick break to call Koushi and let him know, “Hey,” he heard a sigh, “We’re having to stay late tonight so I won’t be home.”
“Ooh. I got this tasty looking cake for dessert and I was waiting for you,” Koushi whined a little. He sighed, “Ok. Are you fed at least?”
He glanced at the clock, “We’ll probably try to find something here in the next couple of hours.”
“Don’t bother,” Koushi replied.
His brows slightly furrowed, “What do you mean?”
“I’ll see you within the hour. Mwah,” Koushi hung up and Daichi had to stare at it for a moment before shrugging and not think about it again.
Jun started getting antsy about fifty minutes later, “You guys getting hungry yet?”
“I could eat,” Shinya tossed a file and rubbed his eyes.
“I can call in something,” Chikage pulled out his phone, “What do we want?”
“I’ve got delivery coming soon,” Daichi replied.
“Oh? What’d ya get?” Shinya asked.
“Not sure actually,” Daichi replied.
“How the hell do you not know what you ordered?”
He shrugged, feeling a little smug.
It got better a couple of minutes later as the other three were arguing over what they should be ordering and what was still open.
“Delivery for Sawamura!
Daichi grinned to himself as he slowly spun around to see Koushi by the door. He stood, walking across the floor. All three pairs of eyes bored into his back. “You didn’t have to come out this late.”
“I know,” Koushi grinned at him and handed him the bag of food, “There’s four shoyu ramen in there.”
“Fuck yea,” he beamed which just made Koushi grin. His fingers wrapped around the strings on Koushi’s hoodie and tugged him closer, kissing him soundly on the mouth. Koushi ran a hand through Daichi’s hair, mussing it some as it gets a little languid and Daichi honestly would like nothing more than to tell the precinct to stuff it for the night… but he can’t. He’s chosen this and they both knew there would be some long days. “Thanks, Koush.”
Koushi cups a cheek, thumb brushing over his lips, “Of course. I love you.”
The stifled squawking behind him was funny.
Daichi glanced over his shoulder, turning a little, “Koushi, this is my team: Tokita Jun. His younger brother was on Karasuno with Ennoshita and Yamaguchi. Narita Shinya, our Narita’s cousin, and Yahaba Chikage. His older brother played with Oikawa.”
All three stared at him like he’d just read the stars or something.
As though they were the only ones who could stalk their coworkers.
“Oh goodness,” Koushi grinned like a cheshire cat, “We have everybody.”
“Everyone, this is Koushi, my husband.”
Koushi sent him a scandalous wink.
“Fucking-”
“How did we not figure that out?” Chikage seemed very confused.
“Especially since your brother got married to what’s-his-face,” Shinya replied.
“Your brother played with them,” Jun looked annoyed.
“Sorry if I never paid attention,” Shinya snipped.
Daichi rolled his eyes and turned back to Koushi, “Thanks, Babe.”
Koushi looked highly amused, “Of course,” he cupped Daichi’s cheek again.
He turned his head, kissing the other’s palm, “I’ll be late.”
“I know.”
“Love you.”
Koushi looked so very smug, “I know,” he lightly tapped Daichi’s face, “Eat that before it gets cold,” he glanced at the rest, “Nice to meet you all. Take care of this guy for me, yeah?” he threw Daichi another wink and walked out of the precinct.
Daichi watched him go and then walked back to his desk, lifting the back, “We got food.”
The other three cheered.
