People have been wondering why the sun is suddenly expanding at a faster rate than was previously expected, this wasn’t supposed to happen according to the calculations of thousands of experts around the world and there is now a worldwide panic. Talks about leaving the earth on a rocket ship or hiding in bunkers and more wacky ideas of how to survive the impending end of the world.
In amidst all of this sat two sisters, in the view of the valley perfectly framing the rapidly expanding sun as they held hands at the edge of a cliff.
Watching the world end is perhaps not the most pleasant way to bond with your sister, but Anna wanted to spend her last moments on earth with a person she cares for deeply. The person she wakes up every morning for and the one she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.
We couldn’t do it now, Anna lamented but right at this moment looking at her sister, who's gazing at the impending danger on the horizon. Anna felt a bit more safer than she ever did in all her life.
“I’m happy you agreed to come here with me.” Anna told, her smile nervous but truly happy. “You make me feel better despite all that’s happening in the world.”
“Who else would I spend it with?” Elsa asked and then smiled, “You’re as important to me as I am to you, at least I hope that I am.” she added nervously, “I would have asked you too, If you’ve been wondering.”
“Elsa that’s…” Anna started. Tears threatened to fall but she held onto it not wanting to cry, not yet. “Thank you.”
They sat there in silence for a minute, enjoying the view. The Valley was the perfect shape of a V in the middle and the ground had a healthy amount of luscious greens. It felt like looking at the Earth’s bosom. Elsa and Anna used to camp by here and they would always go to see everyone else. Which their mother always reprimanded them for; given how dangerous that spot is. However, that did not stop Elsa and Anna from making that spot their safe space. The place they go to when life gets just a tad bit complicated.
The two of them are confident that neither would ever jump without the other's consent, if it ever would happen. They made it a promise, after all. It would violate the sanctity of the place which wouldn't be fair to the surviving twin. Fortunately or unfortunately, it will never happened.
The fact is that they were still brought into this life and found their places within each other. Therefore it would be only be right that if one were to exit, the other would as well. After all they swore to be together till the end.
We couldn’t do it now, Anna repeated. She feels like they were just starting to live, she didn’t want much in life. Just the simple things, and yet they couldn’t even have that. But Anna had a reason for bringing Elsa here. To say what she had always wanted to say but didn’t have the courage to before. Without the fear of her twin going away she spoke before her…
“I have something to confess.” her sister interrupted her thoughts. “Anna, I have feelings for you. I think it is sick and wrong and my views of it haven’t changed.” Elsa continued “But my feelings haven’t either and I don’t want my last thought exiting this world to be my guilt for my dishonesty to you.”
Anna smiled and was about to say something when Elsa spoke again. She didn’t dare stop her sister from doing so. She has never seen her talk so much in her life and she only did if it’s really that important to her.
and well if it’s important to her then it’s important to Anna too.
“I have seen your letter…” Elsa said blushing as she remembered reading them when Anna fell asleep on her own table while writing it. Before Valentines of all days, of course she would be tempted to read. She thought she would just find out who Anna was crushing on and maybe tease her a little bit about it before asking why she never told her. Imagine her shock when the person who her sister appeared to be having feelings for, was Elsa herself.
“I was scared of it…of your feelings, cause I knew that I’d very much want to reciprocate them too. It should not be like that, not very responsible of me, your sister. I should be guiding you to the right path, not holding your hand while running away from it.” Elsa’s tone was very sad and Anna understood.
Anna and her sister has been brought into this world being told that such feelings were wrong and are sources of evil but it never felt that way. It never felt wrong for her to love her sister in every waking or sleeping moment of their life and that’s why she never considered her feelings to be so; she would die on this hill.
“I see now that it doesn’t matter, what others say, what they tell us. I just want to make you happy Anna. That’s what's really important to me and...if I make you happy then it would be the greatest honor.” Elsa finished abashed with her confession as Anna listened to every single word. Both their cheeks are full of color and that wasn’t just from the tint of the sun.
Anna's heart was leaping out of her chest with joy. Not only did her sister confess to her but she did it in the most adorable way. Anna could never ask for more…
And so she doesn’t.
She just moved towards her lips.
Anna knew they might be going too fast, too soon but it’s not like they have more time. The reason why they came here was to savior their last moments with each other anyway.
It was just a chaste kiss, but Elsa just kept on surprising her today when she deepened the kiss to which Anna eagerly welcomed her sister's tongue, as she reached for her face to pull her closer. It was intense for a first kiss she would admit, but she would have it no other way. They only truly parted when the need to for air became too great.
“I’m sorry Anna.” Elsa was the first one to speak once again, for the third time. It felt too real to be a dream for Anna. Still she caressed Elsa’s face and now she was doing the same for her too. Only then did she realize they were both panting for breath. "If I had known this would happen, I wouldn’t have wasted so much time. Maybe then we could have gone to more dates and maybe even more kisses with each other.”
“I’m happy with what we have now.” Anna attempted to ease. She has a lot of regret too but it didn’t matter. She just wanted to be here and now. Nowhere else but the present…which was a great present indeed.
She felt the heat increase. They were running out of time and though she already accepted this were to be their fate, she felt a twinge of sadness that this is it. This is where it will all end.
“It’s quite fitting for the sun to be taking the earth with it when its time is about to run out.” she told Elsa which was about to look into the sun but was stopped. How bad it must already be. “Don’t look. I want your eyes to be the last thing I see, before we go.” and she wanted their last moment to be full of joy and with each other. “It was the one that gave it warmth and life. Now it realized it didn’t want to die all alone.”
“You’re being oddly poetic.” Elsa said in an incredulous tone to which Anna recognized was just her way of being playful and she dared to play along. “And you’re being oddly talkative.”
Elsa’s giggled. Anna felt like she could float above the clouds which might not be the best idea right now. “There are more things that I wanted to say.” Elsa said. Anna felt her tone shift into seriousness. “We might be seeing our parents soon. I hope they aren't too disappointed with us.” she remarked.
“I couldn’t care less to what they’re going to say.” Anna replied. “I only care about us. Nothing else matters to me.” She ends it by going to her sister for another kiss. “But this time, more gentle.” she whispered in the end to tease her sister. It was working.
Elsa moved towards her, this time the kiss was more akin to a wind's breeze and Anna much preferred it way. It felt like the taste of peace and winter. Her favorite season of the year, Elsa agrees. When they parted, they’re eyes are full of longing, regret and sadness. There was happiness too. Lot’s and lots of happiness in fact, which caused it to shine the most.
“I love you.” Anna finally told and her platinum haired twin smiled at her. It was more luminous than the setting sun. “I love you too.” came Elsa's answer.
And as if the sun just waited for their parting words. They rapidly felt heat upon both their faces. There was a bright flash that surrounded everything and for a split second where everything happened so fast and yet also too slow. Everything was bright and beautiful, including the both them, for a moment everything was just right.
The huge flash of light consumed everyone and everything.
And then there was only silence…
