Reboot

Summary:

Our hero is injured in battle. It takes looking his partner in the face to gain the courage to get up and fight.

Notes:

I'm aware you may not know these characters well. They're OCs I'm writing for an original story, and this is how I'm testing the waters.

- Android Unit-775 | "BitMan": a rogue android that escaped its laboratory one fateful day. Now on the run, he's out to seek answers as to why he exists in the first place.

- Zero: A sentient sword that met Unit 775. Now working together as weapon and wielder, they grow closer as partners in battle.

- Goldlewis Grimmstone: A broken man that was betrayed and deserted by his partner.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Pain. There shouldn’t have been pain.

This is how things were going to end. We’d lost. Gotten so far, but it all came crashing down here.

“It seems your “game” ends here, foolish boy.”

Grimmstone. Not only the greatest threat to order in our world, but also a traitor. When I’d found out that he was Zero’s previous wielder, everything until that point made sense.

No wonder he wanted us all dead.

With the last sliver of energy I could muster, I raised my head, laying eyes on him. He wore that smirk proudly, no doubt to grind both types of my gears.

“Grimmstone, you…”

“No need for words. You’ll want to savor your last ones. It should have been obvious to you that a malfunctioning android unit and his oh-so-prized sword would be no match for me.”

You’ll pay for this!

But I was no match. There was nothing I could do. It was hopeless.

“Now, you die!”

As I felt the cold steel going into the less cold steel in my back, my entire vision turned white.

An endless sea of nothingness.

That’s what I saw first.

It’s not over.

Was that…?

“Zero, is that you?”

The voice was the same, but he looked - different. Instead of the sleek sentient blade I knew, there was a man dressed in all black, with his hair to match.

“Not exactly how you know me, but yes, this is the real me.”

I was quite sure he was a sword though. What happened?

“So what happened? Where’s your body?”

“It’s a long story, and I’d be happy to tell you later, but now, there’s no time. You’ve gotta get back out there.”

Wasn’t I dead, though?

“I can bring you back. You just gotta believe !”

Oh, you can’t be serious, Zero. Really?

I guess my mind’s made up. There’s only one way to save this world, after all.

“The clock’s ticking, I’ll be there when you get back. Get going, BitMan.

Wait, did he just call me….

Ugh, no time to unpack that now!

Let’s turn the tides of fate!

With what felt like a bolt of electricity through my body, I suddenly awoke.

It was time to finish this.

As if he’d known I was ready, Zero appeared and flew into my hand, and once I laid my finger on the switch, I was ready.

“Switch! Blaster Forme!” Zero switched into a blaster, and although I couldn’t see it, I was positive Zero’s face now had a smirk.

It’s now or never!

“ACCELERATION SHOT!”

Notes:

GIGANTIC shout out and thank you to @randooninternet, or Jeraldus as you might know him

He helped me build this world and develop the characters in it, and we're gonna work on the world together. Thanks a bunch, man!
