Work Text:

At 6am the alarm goes off. Dean grumbles and rolls over to bury his head in a pillow. Castiel chuckles fondly before jumping out of bed and quickly changing into his running clothes. “I’ll be back in about half an hour.” He says as he kisses Dean quickly on the head before leaving the house for his daily run. Dean grumbles again but gets up anyway, quickly putting on a pair of boxers as he is currently naked, and slowly makes his way to the bathroom to brush his teeth before heading downstairs to start his own day. He wanders into the kitchen and pokes through the fridge to find what he needs to make his two boys their lunch for day care, something half healthy for himself, and of course something for Castiel. Since he had become a father Dean had changed his eating habits quite a bit, wanting to eat healthier to ensure he was around for a long time for his boys. With Sam and Castiel’s help he had found that eating healthy didn’t always have to be salad and no flavour food. He finished up making everything just as Castiel came back home, entering the kitchen to check on what Dean was up to as he did every morning, his skin glistening with sweat.

“Lunch looks good today.” He commented as he grabbed a glass and chugged down some water before turning around and heading back out of the room. “I’m gonna get a shower.” He called back as he started to climb the stairs.

Dean smiled to himself as he finished packing the lunches and basically ran up the stairs himself after his boyfriend. Weekday mornings this was their normal routine, and Dean loved it. He would also join Castiel in their large shower after his morning runs, making sure he was nice and clean. Sometimes they would have sex while they were in there, sometimes they just made out for a while under the hot water until they had to get out to get the kids up. Dean would quickly dress in jeans and a t-shirt, before heading back downstairs and starting to cook breakfast, while Castiel would put on a suit and get the boys up. Usually they entered the kitchen with Castiel holding Kevin on his hip, and Jack walking next to him holding his hand, their faces lighting up as they saw their other father cooking and both making their escape from Castiel to run to Dean and get their morning hugs. As Dean finished making whatever it was he had chosen for that particular morning, Castiel would get the kids sat at the table and grab them some juice or milk, making coffee for himself and Dean. They would then all sit down and eat together, Jack always getting excited about what he might get to do that day, Kevin usually sitting quietly, not contributing much. When they had eaten Dean and Castiel would work together to get the kitchen cleaned up as quickly as possible, the boys getting about ten minutes of TV only before they each grabbed one boy each and got them dressed and bags packed, packing their own bags last before leaving the house. Dean would leave instantly as he had to get to the garage by 8 to open up, and Castiel would get the boys into his car and take them to daycare before he went to his own office job, which he didn’t have to be at till 9, giving him more time. He usually had enough time to stop at a little café right near his office and grab another coffee to wake himself up even more.

At work Dean was always busy, since Bobby had semi-retired a year ago, giving Dean half the business, and Dean having been able to make some changes, such as in their advertising, they had more business than ever. Dean liked that they were busy, the busier they were the more they made, the more they made the easier it was for him to raise his two kids.

For Castiel he had gotten a promotion since returning to work after having Kevin, instead of being a publishing assistant he was now a publisher. He worked hard all-day picking books that he thought they should publish, and rejecting ones he didn’t think were good enough, setting up meetings with the authors of the ones they did publish and negotiating their contracts. On his lunch break he liked to look at his own manuscript that he was working on whenever he had a bit of free time, which as a father to two young boys was a very rare occurrence, but he was making slow progress.

Dean always finished work earlier than Castiel, ending his day at 3. Since the changes and increase in business he had made as a partial owner, he had multiple other people working for him so he could do this. Dean would drive to the daycare and pick the boys up, always then driving straight to the park on good whether days, or the library on bad whether days. At the park they would play for about an hour, sometimes a little more, and the library would always depend on their moods that day. Sometimes they would find books they liked and sit and read, well Dean would read to them, for a while, sometimes they just picked some books to borrow and left. Once they were home Dean would always spend another half hour playing with the boys, usually making a huge mess as he did so, before making a start on dinner. Castiel would arrive home at around 5:30 and would always make a big fuss of saying hi to the boys before leaving them to their games and joining Dean in making dinner, the two men chatting about their days as they did so. While they ate, Dean and Castiel always listened to anything and everything that Jack and Kevin wanted to tell them about their days, always making sure they filled Castiel in on what they had done with Dean after he had picked them up.

After dinner it was TV time. Dean and Castiel would sit on the couch with their boys, and they would all watch something together until it was their bedtime. Once the boys were in bed Castiel and Dean had the evening to themselves. Sometimes they would just stay on the couch watching something, sometimes Dean would put on a game and have a beer while Castiel wrote some more on his book. Occasionally, if Castiel had had a particularly stressful day, he would go out for another run to destress, just like he had done in college when work had gotten to be a lot for him. When he did this Dean would take the opportunity to check over his work lists, what had to be done the next day and make sure that every worker had been assigned the work properly to get it all done, although he only ever did this if he hadn’t gotten the chance to do so while he was at work that day. At around 10pm they would usually make their way up to their room, getting ready for bed and just enjoying being in each other’s company.

On Friday nights Sam would usually come round after work, as would Gabriel if he didn’t have an event to cater that night, and occasionally Michael would also join them. They would all have dinner together, usually take out on these nights, and Jack and Kevin would enjoy getting to stay up a little later then normal, playing with their uncles. Although no one ever said it aloud, Sam and Gabriel were the favorite uncles. They loved Michael, but he didn’t play with them non-stop, doing whatever they asked like Sam did, and he also didn’t sneak them sweets and treats all the time like Gabriel did.

Just about every Friday night Sam would stay the night, having always had one to many beers to drive home by the end of the night, so Dean and Castiel always got to lie in bed a little later than they do on weekdays as Sam would get up early, the crazy early bird that he is, and entertain the kids. Knowing that they therefore weren’t going to get interrupted or caught, Dean and Castiel would take the opportunity to have sex, taking their time instead of quick like their morning sessions before the boys were awake. Most weeks Sam would spend most of his Saturday with his brother, the man he liked to call his brother-in-law and his nephews. On the weeks that Gabriel couldn’t make the Friday night dinners he would also spend Saturday at the house, and as much as Dean and Castiel may complain about always seeing their brothers and not having any time without them, they secretly loved it.

Overall they were both incredibly happy. They had the careers that they wanted, two kids, a loving family around them and most importantly of all, they had each other.
