Work Text:

"You actually think something will happen with both of you without making an even slightest move to make him know your feelings?" Taehyun straight up asked.

Beomgyu rolled his eyes and focused on his food. He is certainly doing something, the world is just too fast. One time he’s thinking of buying him a drink but he had a boyfriend to introduce to them. A week after? They broke up. At Least it lasted a week I guess? or not.

"Seriously hyung, make a move or he's gonna find someone who fits him." Kai said, playing with his food.

"No, he's a whole ass jerk—" Soobin breathed.

"He's your friend, best friend to be exact in case you forgot, Soobin hyung."

Beomgyu sighed. "He's dating Wooyoung, I know where I stand."

"There's no day he's not dating, hyung." The youngest laughed. "You are so gonna cry in your room, your feelings sucking you up, and just realized how stupid you are to fall in love with you best friend who's a player—"

"Who? Who fell in love?" The devil said. He pat Beomgyu's back before sitting beside the vacant seat.

"No one did," Beomgyu said and brought his eyes back to his food.

"Come on, y'all leaving me behind that isn't fair dude," he sulked.

Soobin rolled his eyes. He doesn't hate Yeonjun. He's just a jerk, who happens to have an inborn disease or something in his system.

"How's you and Wooyoung going?"

"Well… we're great! He's the first one to have my attention on him. If you know what I mean," he winked, well at least he tried to wink.

"That's good, he's the first to last for a week," Taehyun pointed out.

Yeonjun was shocked, see, he probably doesn't know that he's a jerk too who changes his date in a matter of seconds.

"For real? I thought Heeseung lasted for… five days?"

"He's the second longest," Kai replied and packed his things. "I have class, I better go. Catch y'all later hags."

"I'll go with Kai, bye oldies." Taehyun said and caught up with Kai.

Yeonjun tapped Beomgyu’s leg and looked at him. "You okay?"

Beomgyu smiled. Why wouldn't he? his best friend, who's a player that he has feelings for, talked about his boyfriend and now has his hand on Beomyu’s leg.

"Of course I'm okay!" Beomgyu laughed and finished his food real quick. Soobin and Yeonjun have a class together so he didn't have to worry about leaving him to eat alone on his own.

"I'm gonna go, Mr. Kim wanted me to get his lecture," Beomgyu said and stood up.

Before he could get away from them, Yeonjun called him. "I'll get you after your class?"

"No, it's okay. I'll be late anyways." Beomgyu said looking at Soobin, asking him to save his ass because obviously he’s gonna burst any minute now.

"I'll get you after class," he said and looked at Soobin and started talking.

Beomgyu closed his eyes and sighed. Soobin smiled at him half teasing and half apologetic. Beomgyu walked out.

~

"Mr. Choi, another Choi is waiting for you outside. Are you done there?"

Beomgyu sighed. "Not yet, Mr. Kim."

He nodded. "I'll finish it, go home now. It's pretty late anyway."

Beomgyu looked at the door and saw him leaning against it. He sighed and fixed his stuff. "I'll get going then Mr. Kim. Thank you, take care going home too."

"Choi, take care of my student." He said to Yeonjun instead.

Yeonjun gave him a salute. "Of course Sir."

Mr. Kim laughed and shooed us.

They walked through the dim night silently. They’re best friends and Beomgyu knows that. He’s always known that. Yeonjun’s unconscious touches, his protective ass whenever there's a guy trying to make a move on Beomgyu, his late night calls before the younger goes to bed, his good mornings, the food that he buys him, the effort he makes whenever Beomgyu not in the mood, every single thing he does, it all falls in the category of best friends.

After all, they’re just like that.

"How's your day?" He asked.

Beomgyu looked at him and lifted his eyes above the sky, the stars that he always watched with him. "It's okay, kinda busy but productive. You? Where's Wooyoung by the way?"

He smiled. "He went home early. I walked him home and came back to fetch you."

It sounded like a jerk thing but remember, he's a best friend. Best friends do anything for each other, right?

"I'm so special," Beomgyu teased and hugged myself.

"Oh, believe me, you are," he whispered and covered him with his jacket.

Beomgyu wore his jacket properly, it was kinda big for him but it hugged him well as if it knew how cold he is to comfort his heart because of its owner. Beomgyu brushed his arms and held his bag tight. Can he? Can he ask for something he knows he shouldn’t ask?

“Is there something that’s bothering you? You know you can always talk to me right? I’m your man,” he said.

Of course, he’s his man. Sure he is.

“Nah, I was just wondering if you know.. Can someone ask for something more?”

“What do you mean?”

Beomgyu sighed. “What if.. What if I want something more?”

Yeonjun stopped walking and Beomgyu had to look back. The older’s face was masked with both hope and confusion. The younger sighed and walked back to Yeonjun. He looked down and played with his sweater paws, the wind blowing, the quiet street, it made Beomgyu even nervous.

“Gyu, what do you mean? You want something more?”

Beomgyu looked up. “You know what? Don’t mind me. Let’s go home, mom’s been calling me.” he smiled and started walking.

Yeonjun stood there for a minute or two before following the younger. He didn’t probe further but Beomgyu definitely knew that he was stealing glances from time to time. Probably confused, no, he was definitely confused about what the younger said.

Yeonjun pulled Beomgyu to the other side of the road when a motorcycle passed by. Beomgyu bit his lips, trying to stop the words from living on it’s own. It’s not a good choice either.

“Thank you for dropping me off, hyung.”

Yeonjun looked past him before staring back to his eyes again. “Sleep well and rest, hm?”

Beomgyu nodded and opened the gate of their home behind his back. He smiled at his best friend. “Thank you again, hyung. Take care when going home. I'll go inside now,” he said, voice slowly getting lower as the words came out to his mouth.

Yeonjun sighed and pulled the younger closer and kissed his temple. That’s what he’s probably waiting for.

“Go in now. I’ll get going, sleep tight okay?”

Beomgyu smiled and nodded before going in. He closed the door behind him and leaned on it. “Coward,” he whispered.

~

"You've been really quiet lately, it's so not you," Taehyun started.

Beomgyu laughed. "I'm still me, duh."

"A lil bit in love but yeah you still have the look of your own." Soobin said.

“Nah, I’m not in love. Maybe just attached? I’ll get over it after some time.” Beomgyu sat down on his seat.

Yeonjun’s always either late for their lunch or he’s with his boyfriend or girlfriend or whatever he has going on.

“You've been trying to get over it for like three years now. That’s a pretty strong attachment huh?”

Beomgyu rolled his eyes. “I tried to talk with him last night when he walked me home. But I… chickened out.”

Kai shook his head. “The devil’s here.”

Beomgyu looked back and saw Yeonjun walking to them. He has a banana milkshake on his other hand which landed beside Beomgyu’s food. Yeonjun smiled and pushed to him the shake urging him to accept it and he did. Taehyun coughed and looked away.

“Wooyoung and I will eat with you today.. He just bought his food.” he said as soon as Beomgyu drank the milkshake that he gave him.

Beomgyu smiled, put down the drink and started eating again. They talked and he remained quite contemplating if it was a right decision to eat with his best friend knowing that he has feelings kept hidden in his jar.

Minutes after Wooyoung arrived, Yeonjun helped him fix his food and started eating. Beomgyu sighed and stood up, everybody looked at him but he smiled. “I need to finish a paper due later in the afternoon.”

Yeonjun stood up and held his arm, “You barely ate, Gyu.. finish at least half of your food first.”

“No, I’m okay. I really have to finish my paper, I’m sorry.” he said and left.

He threw his food and walked to the library, to actually really finish the paper that is due tomorrow. He opened his laptop and a book beside it. He sighed.

His stupid ass is jelous that he had to threw his unfinish food and leave because if not he’s not gonna try looking at them and just painfully hear their voice. He just can’t hear their giggles and their small voices talking about the stuff only they know.

He fixed himself and started typing on his laptop. Minutes later a hand taps his back, he always knows it. “I bought you a sandwich to eat.”

He looked at the sandwich before plastering a smile to face Yeonjun. “Thank you..”

“Are you fine?”

Beomgyu looked back on his laptop and started typing again.”Of course, I'm okay.”

He heard the older sighed and pulled a chair to sit beside him. “I know you, Gyu. Come on, you can always tell me.”

How is he gonna tell him about this? His feelings are long hidden except from his three best friends. The need of being more than best friends, the need of being able to touch his hand without the public labeling them as best friends who normally does that. He needs more than what he’s been receiving. He’s like a bottomless jar that no matter how much water he puts into it, it will never fill up. It’ll never be enough.

“No, I'm okay, hyung.” he smiled.

“No, you’re not, Gyu. It’s okay, I won’t judge you for whatever that will come out of that pretty mouth of yours,” he laughed.

Beomgyu glared at him. It’s not okay for him, it’s not. For the fact that he’s now taken and above all, Yeonjun is his best friend. He sighed.

“No, I don’t wanna lose you,” he whispered.

“Baby.. you’re not gonna lose me, believe me.”

Beomgyu sighed. “I guess I'll have to say it then..”

Yeonjun nodded at him with a smile when Beomgyu smiled a little at him. “I like you.. Been so long..”

Yeonjun raised his brows and smiled. “You like me?” he leaned closer.

“You know what? Never mind. Forget about it.” he said and fixed his things.

Yeonjun sat properly and pulled his chair even closer. He has a teasing smile plastered on his face. “No, no, I wanna hear it again.. You like me?”

“No, I don’t. Now go away,” he answered almost immediately.

“No please, tell me again?”

“No, don’t act like I stand a chance on you because if there's not a chance of us being together then you can leave and don’t act like you like me because honestly I've been suffering with advanced jealousy of you dating anybody else but me. Now, please,” he whispered.

“I’m not acting, I’m hiding it, Gyu. I’ve been hiding it, baby.”

Beomgyu looked at him, lip half agape. “What?”

“I’ve loved you for years now Gyu,” he whispered.

Beomgyu shook his head. “No, you’ve been dating different people almost every day. No you don’t like me.”

“I’m seeing them because if I don’t.. I’ll be called like I’m not dateable but I’m just whipped for my best friend and that can’t happen right? So I stopped just being your best friend. But now? I wanna hear it again so I’ll know what we could do..”

“I like you.. Like a lot actually..”

“Alright then, give me a second.” he said as he dialed a number on his phone. Beomgyu just looked at him and watched his every move, his eyes, his lips, his hands manipulating the phone, he watched all of it.

“Wooyoung?” He paused for a while and listened to the other line. “I’m sorry.. But let’s end it here..”

A few seconds later he dropped the phone and looked at Beomgyu. The guy was in shock.

Yeonjun smiled. “so? “

“You’re a jerk but..” he bit his lips. “Are we dating now?”

Yeonjun leaned even more close, their nose almost kissing. “Nope, I’m courting you.”

Beomgyu looked at him with a smile. He was like being hit by the love arrow once again but this time, the target was precise.

Yeonjun took his sandwich and put it in his bag and also helped him fix his stuff. “Now, get up. I’ll buy you a proper meal and keep the sandwich in case you get hungry later. How does it sound?”

“Good,” Beomgyu whispered and took the hand that the older offered.

He bit his lips looking at the hand holding his. Maybe the jar is new, or maybe it magically got filled because he sure is happy with whatever they have right now. Maybe he was not being a coward, maybe he was just buying time? Or whatever.

He got what he wanted. His bottomless jar has now found the magic water that will fill it.
