Work Text:

It was a cloudy day in the city of Ayaka, the wind on occasion blowing enough to be noticeable. A chilly, day, to say the least, to which the wind helped lessen little. It was an average day, in the weather for the time of year and for Ayaka. Were it not for events perform by certain individuals in their lives, there would be nothing or little notably about the day itself. That was not at all an unusual description of a day, though certainly an unusual manner to describe a day with. For the persons whom which the events about to be discussed pertain, the notability of any given day was something of a roulette wheel.

The first of these persons was Katsumi Minato, the son of Ushio and Mio Minato, and the oldest of three siblings. Katsumi worked primarily with their father at their family’s clothing store, Quatro M. He was, at current, organizing a new display, adjusting designs from both himself and his dad. With every passing day, it seemed Quatro M became more and more a business of work between father and son than just a business ran by a parent that the children help with.

The second of these persons was Isami Minato, the second son of Ushio and Mio Minato, the middle child of the three siblings. Isami worked more with their mother, as they were both very interested in the sciences, particularly engineering, in Isami’s part. He was, at current, fiddling with a device at a desk in the back of the store, just out of direct view, but still able to see into the store. Occasionally, he looked up over at his brother and noted his actions and how each item has been moved.

The third and last of these persons was Asahi Minato, only daughter of Ushio and Mio Minato, and the youngest of the three siblings. She was something of the odd one out in the family, not just because she is the only girl of the three siblings, that actually seemed to have little to do with it. No, her oddity came in different ways, like the way that she just appeared, though only Mio’s memory was proof of such, or how she took after neither parent, where her brothers could easily be noted to take after one of their parents. Despite this, she was stilled loved deeply by her family, and she loved them in kind. She was, at current, excitedly entering through the doors of Quatro M, a curious bundle in her arms.

Her dramatic entrance, something that was quite uncommon for her, drew the attention of both of her brothers. Katsumi turned to look at her and Isami peered out from the desk. Asahi was smiling, though that wasn’t unusual for her – she was often smiling as she was often happy, a person who could best be described as cheerful. The part that was the most unusual was the strange bundle in her arms.

Katsumi’s eyes fall to the bundle in Asahi’s arms, eyeing it curiously. “Asahi,” He started, noting how the bundle moved and shifted. It was black and somewhat furry, though the fur was thin, there was something that might have been a tail moving slightly. “What do you have there?”

She walks over to her brother, raising her arms to show him the bundle in her arms. “Ah, look what I found!” One of the lumps of the bundle raises, revealing the head of a cat, yellow eyes peering back at Katsumi. The cat bared its fangs at him and hissed slightly, “I found her a few weeks ago and I’ve been trying to get her to come with me.”

A month or so before, Asahi had been told that she could get a cat, which the question of which most likely corresponding with her finding this cat. While it was good that this cat was getting a new home, it was clear that as it was, she only trusted Asahi. The cat jumped out of her arms and began to wander around the room.

“Oh, Saki-“ The name of Asahi’s old friend – someone who both Katsumi and Isami have had an… interesting relationship with – was startling. “You shouldn’t wander around the shop! People could be allergic to cats.” It wasn’t necessarily surprising that Asahi seemed to have named this stray cat she’d befriended after her friend.

As Asahi picked up Saki and brought her into their house, most likely to her room, Isami walked over to Katsumi. “Well, at least the cat likes Asahi,” Isami notes.

Sighing a little, Katsumi returned to reorganizing the display, “Hopefully she’ll warm up to us,” He said, “Otherwise this might be a bit hard for us.”

Yet a few months later, it was clear that Saki was not warming up to them. Them being Katsumi and Isami, that is. Saki had warmed up to Asahi even more, even their parents. Multiple times, Saki could be found in Mio’s or Ushio’s lap, if not Asahi’s.

Whenever Katsumi or Isami got close, Saki’s back would arch up, her fangs bared, claws out, and she’d hiss at them. This behavior didn’t seem to change, she’d always act that way around the pair, though she’d do it less if Asahi was around. Really, it seemed appropriate that Asahi had named this cat Saki, because she acted much like her namesake, if much younger and with actual claws.

There was one instance where Saki had sat on both Katsumi’s and Isami’s jackets, as though to simply spite them. After all, they couldn’t get their jackets unless Saki got off them, and it was clear by how she was curled up, peering at them with a gleam in her eye, she probably wasn’t moving anytime soon.

That was just how it was with their newest family member (because they all knew that getting a pet was getting a family member, even more so when someone is so attached to said pet). Though the brothers did find themselves hoping that Asahi didn’t find another cat, lest they gain another furry enemy.
