Work Text:
It was around 1am when Dream had noticed it started raining. He had watched the raindrops fall onto the streets for a couple of hours now. How long had he been lost in his own thoughts? It was dark outside, the only thing lighting up the streets were the street lights and a couple of shops still open. Dream yawned. He put his arms on the window sill and rested his chin on his arms. Despite feeling tired, he wasn't able to sleep. His insomnia wouldn't allow him to. Every time he tried to sleep, he suddenly felt wide awake. The only times he was able to get any sleep was when he passed out. Most nights he just waited until dawn.
Dream focused on the outside.
On one side of the street, there were apartment buildings, and on the other side, were small shops. There was a bakery, that a strawberry blonde hair girl owned. There was an ice cream parlor, owned by two young men. One with ginger hair, with white streaks, and the other with split dyed hair of black and white. Right next to the parlor was a flower shop, run by a girl with long brown hair. Next was a bookstore, run by a man who wore a colourful hoodie, with a swirl on it. Sapnap had been going to the bookstore often to buy antique games, to play on his Game Cube. Dream didn't go outside much, and he didn't really make many friends with the shop owners. He watched the swirly hoodie man close the bookstore. They turned off the lights and locked the door, before leaving towards his apartment.
The door, suddenly, creaks open. "Hey Dream" Sapnap says, letting the hallway lights seep into Dream's room.
Dream lifts his head up from the window sill. "Oh hey Sap. What are you doing awake so early?"
"Just paying my half of rent. Anyhow I was thinking that we should get a new roommate" Sapnap suggested.
Dream looked him weirdly. "Why?"
Sapnap shrugged. "Rent is getting too expensive" He says casually.
"Okay, who do you have in mind?" Dream asked, and turned back to the window sill. He continued to look at the all too familiar scenery, of the city streets. He'd looked at them every night, and basically memorized when each store closed.
"Well, I'm not sure, yet" Sapnap answered. "I was thinking about... remember when I went to Europe to study abroad?" Dream nodded. Before Sapnap and Dream decided to move in together. They lived only a couple blocks away from each other.
The two had met sophomore year of high school, and had been best friends ever since. Sapnap had gotten a scholarship for a school in the UK, while Dream got a scholarship at the states college. Sapnap had told him about all of his experiences in the UK, and Dream had enjoyed the stories. He was disappointed that he wasn't able to share any interesting stories about his time in college.
The one friend that Sapnap had talked about the most, was this one British dude, who was his best friend there.
"He said that he wanted to move to Florida. I offered him to stay here until he got an apartment of his own"
"So you were going to let him stay here either way?" Sapnap nods his head slowly. He rocks back and forth on the heels of his feet.
"Yea, sure whatever, he can stay, as long as he pays his part of rent"
Sapnap jumps in excitement. "Okay lemme tell him." Sapnap pulled out his phone, and left Dream's room, the light leaving with him. Dream is left in the darkness once more.
Somehow Dream had fallen asleep that night, because suddenly his alarm was going off. One moment it was dark, and the next there was light peaking into his room. Dream got out of the comfort of his bed, and headed to the kitchen. There, he was met with the smell of bacon.
He found it strange that Sapnap was awake so early. Sapnap never woke up early, not even for school.
"Watchu making" Dream asks, through his blurry vision.
"Bacon and eggs" A voice that wasn't Sapnap's said.
Dream froze. The tiredness that had been haunting him, had gone away, and his vision cleared. He stared at the strangers back.
He's kinda cute. Dream absently thinks to himself. Wait. No, he's not. The stranger had brown hair and wore a blue sweater, with gray sweatpants.
"Who are you" Dream asks bluntly.
The stranger turns around. "I'm George, and you are?"
"Dream"
"So you're the boy that Sapnap talked about?" Dream says.
George nods slowly.
"Wait... how did you get here so fast?" Dream asked.
George laughed. "I was already here in the state when Sapnap asked you if I could stay, plus its not that much of a flight"
George plated the bacon and eggs, splitting it into three. He placed a plate in front of Dream, and one to the right of Dream. George walked around the island, and sat to the right of Dream.
"So how'd you meet Sapnap?" George asks, breaking the silence.
"Highschool" Dream yawning. Despite being tired, that night was probably one of the best nights he'd had, sleep wise.
"Tired?" Dream nodded, resting his cheek on his palm. He ate the breakfast George made for him.
"Where are you sleeping?" Dream asked. The apartment Sapnap and him lived in was only a two bedroom apartment.
"The sofa" He said.
'thought so' Dream thought to himself. "I'm going to class, tell Sapnap not to bother me" Dream said, walking back to his room. He looked at the clock on the wall. It was 8:57 and classes started at 9.
"Isn't the door that way?" George asked dumbfounded. He pointed to the opposite way Dream was going. Dream nodded.
"I take online courses though, so I don't have to leave my room" He said, checking the time, again. he still had time.
"Oh, when's the last time you've been outside?" Dream shrugged.
"I'd love to talk to you more, but class starts in like a few and I haven't turned on my computer, cya!" Dream said running inside his room.
He booted up his computed. This was going to be an interesting day.
