Marinette felt the sand catch between her toes as she stepped down the wet beach. The air was cold and damp- perfect for a meeting. She ran to the edge of the water, feeling the ocean waves tickle her toes as she scanned the water.
After a moment, she caught the turqoise glitter of a mermaid tail, and she dashed to the rocks, climbing up them and scurrying down to one close to the water. She held her breath as a pair of curious eyes poked out, blinking in the sunlight.
“Marinette, you came!” The mermaid pulled himself out of the water, excitement glittering in his eyes. “And you brought the guitar!”
Marinette nodded, swinging the case around to the front and pulling out the instrument. “Well Luka, is it everything you every dreamed of?”
“We’ll have to see when I play it,” he said, taking the guitar. Marinette pulled out a pick and placed it in his hand, holding her breath as he tentatively began to strum.
He played no tune, just testing the strings in the open air, but she could see him holding his breath, eyes wide with wonder. The sound carried over the wind, echoing in the cove.
“Thank you,” he said, breathless.
“Of course,” replied Marinette. He placed a hand on her hand, looking at her with a sweet expression. She smiled, and felt a fluttering in her stomach as he began to strum once again.
