Rewritten RWBY: Volume 1

Summary:

A story made by a fan of RWBY’s potential but who feels it was wasted. This story follows Ruby on a similar path to canon but with more time spent fleshing out characters, relationships, lore, and the story arcs.

Chapter 1: Yang and Ruby, Sisters Together

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

“Come on. Come on,” Ruby pleaded before tightening some screws and welding a small patch of metal.

She flipped her welding shield up and took a step back. “Hmmm. Something’s still missing, but what?”

Taking a look around the chaotic mess of a garage, Ruby spots a few cans of spray paint. “Ah ha.” Expertly navigating her way over, Ruby finds the red can she was looking for, quickly spraying it on.

“And there. Now to test my little baby’s new upgrade.” She sat down Crescent Rose carefully on a towel to dry.

“Welcome to a world of new solutions. Uh, something, something, bloody evolution,” she mumbled along to This Will Be the Day playing in her headphones. Grabbing her tools she haphazardly threw them into her scarlet tool box. Ruby wiped her oil stained gloves on her black apron before untying the strings in the back.

She lifted the apron off her head and threw it on the empty table beside her.

Carefully cradling the now dried Crescent Rose, she exited the shed towards Yang and her training dummy. “YANG! Can I test my baby’s new upgrade on you?” Ruby called out to her sister.

Yang turned towards her. “Come on Rubes, you know dad doesn’t like you testing weapons on me.”

“But Yanggg, you never care about rules like that.” Ruby pouted.

“But Rubbyyy,” Ruby stuck her tongue out. “My aura’s already close to red,” Yang rebutted.

“Please Yang,” Ruby pulled out her puppy dog eyes.

Yang pulls her little sister into a bear hug, “Alright fine,” she says while ruffling Ruby’s hair.

Grabbing Crescent Rose, Yang lifted the scythe out of Ruby’s reach, “but first you gotta tell me what additions you made.”

“I want it to be a surprise. Give my baby back,” Ruby futilely reached towards her prized weapon.

“Hmm, what about no?”

Ruby activated her semblance, turning her into scattered rose petals and allowing her to move through the air with ease. The petals surged upward towards Yang’s raised hand holding Crescent Rose. Ruby then reformed into human form and took back her creation.

“Hah. Take that Yang!” Ruby taunted.

“Now you’ve started it,” Yang charged towards her sister, fire metaphorically in her eyes.

“Eek,” Ruby squealed and dissolved into her petal form.

Yang smirked and started punching towards the petals floating in the air around her. “Come on back to normal and let’s spar. We don’t have much time to do this when I leave for Beacon next week. Remember headphones off, we don’t want you to break them again.”

Ruby reformed back, tilting her head as she threw her headphones on the porch. “But Yang isn’t your aura in red?”

Yang waved her hand. “Pfft. I said it’s close to red so it’s fine. I won’t even need it to beat you since you can’t use your scythe.” She finished her statement with a jab straight towards Ruby’s face.

Ruby scattered narrowly dodging the attack. Reforming a couple meters away, she called out, “Why can’t I use Crescent Rose?”

“Because you won’t tell me what this new upgrade is, and you rely too heavily on that thing. Besides, I don’t have Ember Cecilia.” Yang let out another fury of blows on Ruby.

”Eepk,” Ruby dissolved into petals and sped to the other side of the yard before returning to normal. “I don’t rely too much on my baby.”

Yang started running towards Ruby. “Then prove it,” Yang requested with a wicked grin.

Ruby got into a fighting stance. “I will!” Yang’s fists started glowing red hot as she charged towards her, “not!” Ruby scattered.

Yang's fists erupted into a furious flame. “Come on Ruby-roo. Stop running and actually fight me,” Yang shouted.

Ruby reformed momentarily behind Yang and shouted into her ear, “Uncle Qrow says running away is a perfectly acceptable battle strategy.”

On instinct, Yang spun around and punched.

Ruby tried to scatter but it was too late. Right as she became petals, the hit landed on a petal and incinerated it entirely. Ruby reformed lying on the floor, a burn visible on her cheek.

“Shit,” Yang cussed. All the fire disappeared, as she crouched down to check on Ruby. “Are you alright?”

“ ‘m fine. Just hurties,” Ruby mumbled. She held her hand up to cover the burn.

Yang reached out to move Ruby’s hand, but paused. Sighing, Yang pulled her own hand back and sat down next to her sister.

“Do you want to go get some ice cream?” Yang asked.

Ruby looked up at her older sister, “Could I get the Ruby Special?”

Yang grinned. “Oh yeah you will. All six scoops of strawberry ice cream, a mountain of cookie dough, a downpour of chocolate sauce, and an entire can of whipped cream. Of course you can’t forget a bunch of rainbow sprinkles because my little Rubester is gay.”

The final comment flustered Ruby. “Yang!”

“Oh come on Ruby. I can make those jokes all I want because I’m bi.” Yang gave her the classic finger guns. “Now go put on a helmet we’re taking Bumblebee.”

Ruby hung onto Yang for dear life as they rode on the motorcycle called Bumblebee through the town of Patch. It was a quick ride to the ice cream parlor on the outskirts of the town, the only one Ruby wasn’t banned from.

A bell chimed as they entered the door. The cashier's eyes widened as they looked at who just came in. “That’s it. I quit. I’m moving to Vacuo,” they said untying the apron part of their uniform.

An employee walked out of the bathroom. “Oh come on Wakko. Stop over reacti-“ he stopped when he saw Ruby and Yang.

“Stop calling me Wakko. My name’s Jesse. Anyways I’m out. Good luck Jac,” Jesse flashed the pettiest smile they could as they exited the store.

Yang chuckled at the scene. “Alright Mr. Kass, we’ll take a-“

“I know I know. You want the Ruby special. It’s been ingrained into the minds of all ice cream shop employees in Patch.” Jac shuddered as he began work on the monstrosity they ordered. Yang paid for the ice cream and put a small tip in the jar before grabbing a window seat next to Ruby.

“Hey Ruby,” Yang spoke. “I’m sorry that I burned you while we were sparring. I shouldn’t have gotten so riled up.”

“It’s fine Yang. I shouldn’t have gone behind you.”

“Still I should have been more careful. Especially because your aura doesn’t protect you in petal form.”

“Yaaaanng. I’m fine.”

“But what if I seriously hurt you and that was the last thing you remembered before I went to Beacon.”

“Yang-“

“Here’s your diabetes in a bowl. I don’t get paid enough for this,” Jac interrupted.

“Yang I-“ Ruby continued.

“I’m okay sis. How ‘bout you eat your ice cream before it melts.”

“Oh alright then.” Why do you always close yourself off like this Yang?

“Yang, I may not be good with directions but I think home’s the other way.”

Yang chuckled. “I know Rubester. We’re going to get one of the weapons magazines you like.”

“THE WARRIORS WEAPONS WEEKLY!!” Ruby squealed. “Let’s go! Faster Yang!”

“Hold on tight.”

“Oooh! This one! Wait no, this one! Or maybe that one?” Ruby sighed. “Yang, do I get the one with the axillary cannon article or the one with a behind the scene look at the SDC paladin?”

“Hmm. That’s a tough one. Go with the paladin because that sounds cooler,” Yang absentmindedly answers.

“Alright, I suppose it could be awesome to see the upcoming government mecha suits.”

“Yeah, cool government mechs. Wait what?!”

“No time Yang. C’mon we need to pay.”

“Ruby!”

“Okay so let me get this straight. Atlas is making mech suits for their soldiers without aura and semblances.”

“Yup,” Ruby replies, popping the p. “It’s to lower injury rates and encourage more people to join the army.”

“That’s awesome, well besides the military part.”

“Yeah! It’s like a dream come true. Just imagine a mech walking down the street across from you stopping crime or killing . . .”

“Ruby?”

Ruby’s silver eyes narrowed and a faint shine could be seen from them. “Grimm,” she activated her semblance and dashed forward leaving Yang in her dust.

Yang ran after the speeding mass of petals desperate to catch up to her little sister.

In an alleyway a Beowulf had a father and his son cornered. The father stood in between the Grimm and his son silently praying to the brothers that someone would save them.

In front of the alley a red cloaked hero emerged and pulled a strange object from their waist. The object soon underwent a form of metamorphosis, changing from the scythe shape into something resembling a sniper rifle. Without a word the hero pulled out a cartridge and loaded it into the gun.

Back in the alley, the Beowulf lunged towards the man and his son. In instinct the father shut his eyes and held his arms in front of his face, bracing for impact.

Only it never came. The Grimm had faded into ash, clearing the way for the family to see their silver eyed savior.

Ruby stood there, silent and triumphant, as Yang caught up to her. “Whoa!” Yang exclaimed. “Ruby, that was insane.”

Ruby closed her eyes and relaxed her stance, her eyes returning to normal as she opened them. “Guess the test run was a success then?”

The father and child exited the alley as the man spoke, “I’d say so. It certainly saved me and my son’s lives. Is there anything I can do to thank you?”

Ruby paused for a moment, “I was just uh doing my duty as a huntress in training.”

The man smiled, “Well thank you miss. Have a good day. Now come along Henry,” he said while pulling his son away.

“I wanna be cool like you are when I grow up,” the young boy blurted.

“Uh yeah. You can . . . do it kid,” Ruby sheepishly replied, waving the family goodbye.

“Ahh, Yang how do I people? Fighting Grimm is so much easier.”

“You did good Rubes, both with the Grimm and the people,” Yang complimented. “Seems like you’ll be okay when I’m gone at Beacon.”

“Noo, don’t leave me Yang.”

“Sorry Rubester. Now let’s head back home.”

“Race you there!”

Ruby ran off sticking her tongue at her big sis. Speeding ahead Ruby turned to look where she was going, seeing the person just in time. Ruby scattered herself so all the stranger felt was petals colliding into them before reforming in front of them.

“I’m so sorry. I was looking where I was going and-“ Ruby locked eyes with the person in front of her, recognizing him instantly. “You’re Professor Ozpin, headmaster of Beacon.”

“You’re correct, young lady. Say you wouldn’t have happened to see any Grimm nearby, have you?”

“There was a Beowulf bothering this guy and his son but it died with a simple whaplam,” Ruby answered.

“So you were responsible for taking care of the Beowulf then.”

“Yup. Crescent Rose made quick work of it.”

Ozpin raised an eyebrow, “Crescent Rose?”

“My baby,” Ozpin chuckled, “I mean weapon.”

“May I see?”

“Sure!” Ruby unfolded her scythe before handing it to the headmaster.

“Quite impressive. Not many weapons can fold up so easily. In addition to a scythe being incredibly difficult to master.”

“It’s not just a scythe. Watch,” Ruby grabbed back the scythe and transformed it into a sniper rifle, “it’s also a gun.”

“This is very intriguing. Where did you get it from?”

“I made it personally. No offense to any weapons company but I don’t trust them to follow my vision.”

“What was your name again?”

“I’m Ruby Rose, future huntress extraordinaire.”

“Say Ruby, how would you like to attend Beacon?

“I-I’d love to, but why?”

“Well, it’s clear you are excellent at killing the creatures of Grimm as you did so earlier. Additionally, it’s rare we ever see a huntsman ever create a weapon as complicated as yours. And your eyes certainly don’t hurt.”

“My eyes?”

Ozpin cleared his throat, “I can see in your eyes that you will be a great huntress.”

“Thank you sir. I won’t let you down.”

“I’m sure you won’t. Now excuse me I must be going, life’s never easy as a headmaster after all.”

“See ya!” Ruby ran off determined to win the race. And tell Yang the good news, of course.

Notes:

I hope everyone enjoyed the first chapter. As you can see, I tried to focus more on Ruby and Yang so we get to see their relationship pre beacon.

I also hope everyone enjoyed my very creative naming of the rude cashier Jac Kass.

Chapter 2: Exclamations and Remembrance

Summary:

Ruby explains what happened to Yang and together they head home to tell their father Taiyang. The next morning Ruby goes to visit someone.

Chapter Text

“Yang, wait up!”

“Whoa, Rubester what’s got you grinning like you won the lottery?”

“Yang you’ll never believe what just happened! I’m going to Beacon with you.”

Yang froze. “Slow down Ruby. What do you mean you’re going to Beacon with me?”

“Okay so you know how I ran into that guy.”

Yang nodded, “I was laughing as I ran by.”

“Turns out that guy was actually Ozpin, the headmaster of Beacon. I think he was looking for the Beowulf? Anyways I told him about how I killed the Grimm, and showed him my baby and it’s upgrade,”

“Oh yeah. You gotta tell me about that after this,” Yang interjected.

“Sure,” Ruby continued, “Anyways he invited me to attend Beacon after he said he was impressed and something like I was a true huntress. And boom, I’m going to Beacon.”

Yang stood there stunned, before cracking a big grin and ruffling Ruby’s hair. “Looks like my lil sis is gonna be an incredible huntress right alongside me. Now tell me about your upgrade to Crescent Rose.”

“Okay so you know how I had a pistol stored in the side of my baby. Well I wanted something with more range and with the ability to use dust cartilages. So I thought ‘Hey, how cool would it be to have a sniper gun?’ and yeah I was right.”

“I do agree that the sniper was incredible, but what made you think it was a good idea to try to test it on me?”

“…” Ruby’s eyes darted around the street, desperate to avoid Yang’s gaze. Soon she spotted her escape, “Oh uh looks like we made it to Bumblebee. Looks like it’s a tie.”

Yang rolled her eyes. “Fine, I’ll let you off the hook for now.” Yang then cocked an eyebrow, “If you pick up Zwei’s poop for me until we leave for Beacon.”

Ruby froze, contemplating her options. Zwei had some really, really smelly poop that she absolutely hated touching.

On the other hand, she’d avoid an awkward conversation with Yang. I mean sure Ruby was used to awkward conversations, nearly every time she talked to others there was one, but never with Yang.

And with that Ruby decided. “Only if you don’t tell dad.”

“Deal,” they both said in unison, shaking hands like in those cheesy business movies their dad made them all watch together.

“Hey dad, we’re back,” Yang yelled as she and Ruby entered the house.

The sister’s father, Taiyang, poked his head out from the kitchen. “Perfect timing. I was about to finish popping the popcorn for movie night. It’s my choice and I was thinking of Buisness Baby. And I mean buisness, baby.”

Yang cleared her throat, a signal she and Ruby developed to help each other (Ruby) understand when they (Yang) were being sarcastic. “As thrilling as that sounds, no.”

“Hey, it’s my turn to pick the movie and I’m your dad so you’re going to have to suck it up buttercup.”

“I guess you don’t want to hear Ruby’s big news then,” Yang shrugged.

“By big news do you mean the average person big news or the Ruby kind of big news?” Taiyang asked.

Ruby turned to Yang, “What do you mean the Ruby kind?”

“Basically it’s like you just saw a really cool weapon or new technology come out and you spend an hour talking about it nonstop. Anyways Dad, it’s an average person's big news.”

“Well then Little rose petal,” Ruby blushed at the childhood nickname, “What’s this news?”

“I’m going to Beacon,” Ruby blurted out.

“Sure, I can take you there while we drop Yang’s stuff off. I thought that was already the plan though.”

Yang interjected, “No. Ruby meant she is going to be attending Beacon with me, dad.”

“How did that happen?”

“Ozpin.”

“Let me check my email then.” He pulled out his scroll and saw that Taiyang did indeed have an email from Glynda, a high ranking staff member at Beacon, explaining what happened.

“Aww my little girls are growing up. Guess we should watch Business Baby 2: No Little Thing tonight instead.”

“Yang bought me a really cool weapon magazine so I think I’d have to pass tonight.” Ruby activated her semblance and in a blink of an eye went upstairs, only leaving rose petals as proof she was ever there.

“And I have to walk Zwei. You know how he can get. I’d hate for him to break another ‘indestructible’ dog toy.” Yang then walked off to find Zwei’s leash, leave Taiyang alone.

“Well, I guess more popcorn for me.” Taiyang said to no one but himself.

The next morning Ruby woke up early and quickly got dressed. She carefully tied her red cloak around her shoulders, and hastily brushed her black and red hair.

After Ruby left her room, she quietly snuck down the stairs, not wanting to wake up her dad, who had fallen asleep on the couch. She scribbled a small note explaining where she’d be, in case anyone woke up and wondered where Ruby was.

She grabbed Crescent Rose before she walked out the door and up to a cliff behind her house. On that cliff, there was a single grave stone, inscribed with:

Here Lies Summer Rose

A Huntress, Wife, and Mother

May she Rest In Peace

amongst the wind.

“Hey mom,” Ruby whispered as she sat down beside the grave. “I’ve got some big news. I’m attending Beacon with Yang in a week. I guess you weren’t the only prodigy in the family. I wish you were there to see your daughters head off.”

Ruby paused, wiping away her tears. “I- I miss you,” she choked out. “So so much. Why did you have to leave us?”

“Why did you have to leave me?”

Ruby sat there for a while. Hugging Crescent Rose while she cried at her mother’s grave for the first time in a while. Only stopping when her eyes flashed and she knew there were creatures of Grimm around.

Red like roses fills my dreams

And bring me to the place you rest

Ruby stood up and brandished her scythe while surveilling the creatures around her. She was surrounded by a pack of beowulves.

White is cold and always yearning

Burdened by the royal test

The beowulves circle Ruby, licking their lips but waiting to strike.

Black the beast is sent from shadows

Ruby smiles. What better way to help her vent than to take down some Grimm?

Yellow beauty burns Gold

A beowulf jumps at Ruby, starting the brawl. Ruby swings her scythe, cleaving off the Beowulf’s head and dissolving it to dust. The rest of the pack jumps into the fray. Leaping towards Ruby with so much power, she has no choice but to scatter.

When she returns to form, Ruby transforms her weapon into a sniper and starts shooting her enemies, dusting them on impact. The recoil of such a massive gun helps propel Ruby further into the air and further from the Grimm.

When Ruby starts to run out of bullets, there are only 5 beowolves left. She turns her baby back into a scythe and activates her semblance to rush back to the ground. When she reforms, a Beowulf bites causing Ruby to instinctively hold up her weapon. The Grimm’s teeth collided with the metal handle, making a gritty sound. Ruby slams the handle on the ground, ducking to avoid a different Beowulf’s attack and smashing a Beowulf’s jaw into the ground, dissolving it on impact.

Ruby jumps back up to her feet and spun Crescent Rose in an arc to slice a Beowulf in half, leaving only 3 Grimm left. Ruby smiled and launched herself towards the 3 beowulves jumping to her. One big swing is all it takes to finish the fight.

Ruby hunches down, sweaty and out of breath. She wipes the sweat off her forehead and looks back to her mother’s grave.

“I’ll make you proud mom.”

Ruby walks home content, ready to start packing for Beacon.

Notes:

Sorry this chapter took so long. I’ve been swamped with marching band season. I should have more time to write now so hopefully I’ll update sooner next time.

Chapter Text

“Alright girls, do you have your clothes packed?”

“Yes dad,” Ruby and Yang responded in unison.

“What about your textbooks?”

“Yes,” Yang groans.

Ruby freezes, “Um, let me check.” Ruby runs off towards the car to check her bag for all of her textbooks. Seeing them all there she runs back to the living room, “I got them all.”

“Okay good, good. Your weapons are packed?”

Ruby beams, “Yup! I packed mine and Yang’s baby,” Yang snorts, “and repair kits for both. I also packed a bunch of dust bullets.”

Taiyang smirks, “What about hugs and kisses for your dad?”

“All packed away and too buried to get out,” Yang quips.

Taiyang dramatically pouts, which makes Yang start laughing hard, “No love for your old man now you’re leaving? I see how it is.”

Ruby frowns, “I love you dad.”

Yang elbows Ruby, a sign they made up for Yang to help Ruby know when someone’s being sarcastic. “Oh,” is all Ruby responds.

An alarm goes off on Taiyang’s scroll, reminding them to head off for the airship ports and to Beacon. “Well it’s go time everyone,” Taiyang said as he turned off his alarm.

Ruby ran over to their dog Zwei and gave him a hug. “Bye boy, I’m going to miss you.”

Zwei gives Ruby some dog kisses, also known as licks, and lets out a small whine, as if to say “I’ll miss you.”

“C’mon Rubester, Dad’s gonna leave . . .” Yang shouted while halfway out the door, freezing when realizing what she was saying. Taking a grounding breath she continued, “You’re going to make us late.”

“Not if I have anything to say about that!” Ruby speeds past Yang, her petals barely avoiding hitting Yang while getting to the car.

“Like a fever will take you down!” Yang belted out, finishing the song on the radio.

“The song’s over. Can we finally go in, Yang?” Ruby nagged.

“Hey in my defense, the song is a banger and it’s criminal to leave in the middle of the song.”

“Alright kiddos,” Taiyang interjected, “here’s the deal. I’m going to help carry your stuff onto the airship and then head back home.”

Ruby tilts her head, “I thought you were going to ride on the ship with us?”

Yang grabs Ruby’s hand, “I’ll be with you every step of the way, Ruby. Besides this oldie” Yang points at Taiyang, “probably just wants to go home and take a nap and pretend he isn’t balding,” she ends with a smirk.

“Oh you’ve started it. Maybe I just didn’t want to attract all the students' attention with my gun show.”

“Please, like you’d ever leave them tongue-Taid (Tied).”

They both breakout laughing. Yang smiles, “I love you, grandpa.”

“Oh you little-“ Taiyang glances at Ruby, remembering she was there, “jerk. I’m not that old yet.”

Ruby groaned, “Dad I’m 15 not 7. You don’t have to censor for me.”

“Alright fine but you’re always gonna be my baby girl Ruby. And Yang you’re always going to be my daughter too, even when you’re being annoying. Have fun at Beacon you two and make sure to stay safe.”

“Love you too,” both sisters respond.

They all grab the luggage. Taiyang grabs the majority of Ruby’s bags but leaves Ruby with Crescent Rose’s case and the repair kit Ruby packed. When Taiyang tries to help Yang out with her bags she simply waves him off and picks up her 4 suitcases on her own.

They walk in the crowd of families and students all walking to put their luggage on an airship. Finding an open spot they drop off all the bags except for Ruby, who holds on to Crescent Rose.

Ruby begins to tear up, “Bye Dad. I’m gonna miss you.” She runs up and gives Taiyang a big hug.

“Hey, it’ll be okay Ruby,” Taiyang reassures. “I’ll see you soon. I'm going to stop by for your birthday and to watch you in the Vytal festival.”

Ruby looks up at him, “Okay.”

Yang steps in, “You know, I could always drive you to Patch on some weekends if you start missing Dad too much.”

“You promise?”

Yang smiles, “Of course Rubster. Now we gotta get going.”

Taiyang crosses his arms, “What am I? Chopped liver?”

Yang laughs, “Love you dad, see ya later.”

“See ya.”

Ruby and Yang make their way to one of the less crowded airships on their way to Beacon. When arriving they quickly find an empty spot in the corner to sit down.

“Hey Yang.”

“Yeah Rubes?”

“Why didn’t you go sit with your friends?”

“Because I wanna stick with my sister, dummy.”

“But you’re so popular and I’m not.”

“I bet you’re going to be more popular than me, after all you’re the young huntress prodigy who got to skip two whole grades. At Beacon you’re gonna be the bee's knees, just you wait.”

“But I don’t want to be the bee's knees. I just want to be a normal girl with normal knees and a normal amount of friends.”

“You wanna make friends? Heck yeah! My sister is finally coming out of her cocoon and becoming a social butterfly!”

“I wear a sleeping bag to school one time,” Ruby grumbles under her breath.

“Let’s go find someone to meet. There’s a boy with blonde hair in that corner who seems lonely, why don’t we go say hi?” Yang grabs Ruby’s hand and pulls her towards the boy in the corner.

“Is, is that puke?” Ruby asks when they wake it over to the blonde boy.

The boy freezes before sighing, “Yeah. I didn’t realize my motion sickness would be bad.”

Yang smirks. “It’s all good Vomit Boy. I’m Yang and this here” she gently nudges Ruby, “is my little sister.”

“Hi I’m name, I mean my name is Ruby, I’m Ruby.” She buries her head into her cloak, the red of her cheeks matching the red cloak.

“And I’m Jaune. Please don’t call me Vomit Boy.” Jaune rubs his neck sheepishly avoiding eye contact.

Yang is the only one trying to maintain some sort of eye contact as Ruby’s eyes drift around the room. The little Rose quickly spies some metal poking out of one of Jaune’s bags.

“Is that your weapon? What type is it? Does it utilize dust? Did you paint it white or was that just the color of the metal? Do you utilize long or short range or both? Can you-“ Ruby rambles.

“Rubester, slow down. You’re clearly overwhelmingly Vomi-, I mean, Jaune here.”

“Oh sorry Jaune. I just really like weapons and well I always hear people say the weapon is a reflection of the user.”

“It’s okay,” Jaune replies then freezing, “Do people really say that?”

“Maybe? I do and I’m a person but I haven’t heard of anyone else saying it too.”

“Nah it’s just a you thing Ruby. Literally no one else has ever said that.”

“I thought it sounded cool,” Jaune compliments. “Although I’m not sure what you mean by that.”

Ruby pauses, concentrating on what to say next. “What I mean is that you put your heart and your aura into your weapon. It’s more than just a tool, it’s like an extra limb. Every hunter's weapon is unique, designed to perfectly compliment its wielder, from their fighting style to semblance.” A dreamy look is on Ruby’s face as she finishes speaking.

“Whoa. Does that mean you made your own weapon?”

“Of course, didn’t you make yours?”

“No, it was a hand me down from my great grandfather. He used it in the Great War,” Jaune sheepishly replies.

“Huh, that sounds more like an heirloom and must be in miraculous condition to even work nowadays. We can work on it together if you’d like.”

“That would be awesome, thanks.”

“Aww, would you look at that?” Yang butts in, startling both Ruby and Jaune. “Rubes, you finally made a friend.”

Ruby looks to Jaune, “Are we friends?”

“I think so”

“I’m glad.”

Sorry it's so late. I've spent the time world building and improving my outline. I've also started to build up a buffer. Next update will be on May 1st.

Chapter 4: Hiatus Update

Summary:

Hiatus will end soon and therapy good

Chapter Text

So hi, it’s been awhile. My hiatus announcement was kinda intense. Good news: I’m working with my therapist now on my paranoia. Progress is slow but it’s getting better every day.

Oh and actual chapter 4, Entrance Exam to School and Friends, will be here by the end of February.
