Work Text:

To Gloria, waking up early should be a crime. Unfortunately for Gloria, the person she lives with doesn’t share her opinion on mornings.

Marnie, her wife of six months, always wakes early, often before the sunrise, and has already been up and about for hours by the time Gloria wakes up. And don’t even get her started on the times Gloria hit the snooze button too many times and Marnie insisted on waking her by force (because of course Piers’ sister knows how to play the electric guitar).

Suffice it so say, Marnie is never in bed beside her when Gloria wakes up. So, when the alarm blares and forces Gloria into consciousness, and she rolls over to lunge for the snooze button, it causes more than a little confusion as she collides with a warm lump beneath the duvet.

“Oi, mind those elbows,” Marnie says, and, with a click, the alarm shuts up.

“Wha…?” Baffled, Gloria raises her head—and, sure enough, her wife lies in bed beside her, one hand hovering over the alarm. “Marnie?”

“Morning, sleepin’ beauty,” Marnie says, smirking.

“Marn?” Gloria mumbles. “What’re you…”

Marnie chuckles, a sound only Gloria gets to hear. She loops an arm around Gloria and pulls her wife closer, her hand warm and firm against her back. “Happy Anniversary, luv.”

“Oh yeah, of course,” Gloria says, and she presses a soft kiss to her wife’s cheek. “Happy six-month anni…” Gloria cuts herself off with a yawn and Marnie laughs.

“C’mon, sleepyhead, wake up. Or dontcha want your presents?”

Despite her grogginess, Gloria sits bolt upright. “Presents?”

Marnie snorts. “You never change. But… I guess that ain’t a bad thing.”

And when her wife’s cheeks start to flush, it’s Gloria’s turn to laugh, and she captures Marnie’s lips in a gentle kiss.
