“Again!”
From the ground, there was a low whispered curse followed by a groan. Grace didn’t need any kind of super hearing to know that Eliot was cursing her specifically, and she couldn’t stop herself from laughing as the whispered words grew slightly louder as he pushed up to his feet. Despite his recent changes, Eliot wasn’t a witch and she had nothing to fear from some angry grumblings with her name mixed in. Still, she attempted to school her expression as he straightened up and looked straight at her. When all he did was narrow his eyes and clench his fists, she raised her brows in question and propped her fists on her hips.
“You heard me! Again!”
This time when he attacked, she ducked low and drove her shoulder into his center of gravity. She used his own momentum to flip him over her body, listened to him grunt as his back was slammed onto the grass, and she was already grinning as she spun on her heel. He’d been so sure that he’d adjust quickly to the changes, that all of his years of training would aide him in becoming something so much more than human, and she’d warned him. Had told him again and again that he’d have to work at it. Human impulses and muscle memory wouldn’t help him now. She should have brought a camera with her, or talked Angel into joining them so that he could sketch this perfect moment. This realization that Grace was right and Eliot was wrong.
“I hate you,” Eliot said as she leaned over him. She was looking at him upside down, green eyes soft in the moonlight, and she could see the anger in his expression. If he could get his hands on her, he’d rip her apart. (Okay, he wouldn’t actually rip her apart because he was an actual good guy, but he would make a point of telling her that he could rip her apart if he wanted.) The only problem was that, despite Eliot being stronger than her, she had more control over her body than he did right now. “You’re having too much fun with this.”
“I am having an absolute blast,” she confirmed. She ducked down to kiss the tip of his nose, and Eliot jerked his head away. Too annoyed for simple soft affection. Well, that just wouldn’t do.
Grace flipped through the air, her own training kicking in to guide her movements, and she thought she heard Eliot growl as her knee pressed against his solar plexus. Her hands gripped his wrists before he could grab at her, pushing his hands into the grass on either side of his head, and she laughed as he bared his shining teeth at her. When she leaned down over him, pushing harder against the points where she had him pinned, he snapped his teeth at her face. Absolutely adorable. Grace rubbed her nose against his and then leaned down to let their lips brush in a kiss as he predictably shook his head, and she firmed the kiss for a moment. Just for a moment, before his teeth could nip at her lip in frustration and annoyance. In one quick move, she wasn’t pinning him anymore and was instead standing a few feet away from his prone form.
“That’s cheating,” he said as he slowly sat up. She locked her knees but let the rest of her body slump in a relaxed stance, and her head tipped to the side. Oh yeah, stealing a quick kiss during their very important training session had definitely pissed him off.
“Yeah? What’re you gonna do about it?”
Eliot charged, Grace laughed, and the dance began again.
