“No, Kai. You’re not going to fall on your face, nor are you going to step on Taehyun during the dance,” Yeonjun groaned.
It’s been ten minutes since Kai started listing all the negative things that could happen, and Yeonjun has had about enough of Kai’s bullshit.
Kai looked at Yeonjun with a pout on his face, making Yeonjun sigh. Yeonjun knew if he had to distract Kai then he needed to change the topic.
“Kai, why did you leave your entire life behind for Taehyun? How did you know that Taehyun was worth all that??” Yeonjun asked softly.
“Taehyun’s smile. The way he smiles whenever we’re together. The way he cares for me; no one has ever cared about me like that. The way he loves me; no one has ever loved me like that, not even my own parents. I just love him so much that I don’t mind giving up everything if it means that I can see him smile. I always wanted to be the reason he smiled and he told me that I’m the reason for his smile and that itself makes me wanna be with him no matter what or who I have to give up. As for leaving my parents, they were never there for me, and right now I have Taehyun’s parents who love me as much as they love him,” Kai said and as he continued speaking Yeonjun got lost in his thoughts, thinking about his boyfriend Beomgyu. After hearing Kai talk about Taehyun’s smile, he felt the urge to go and see his boyfriend’s smile. Unfortunately, he had a duty to perform. He had to stay with Kai and give him the moral support he’s supposed to provide as his best man.
“Are you guys ready to go?” Soobin entered the room with a smile on his face, snapping Yeonjun out of his thoughts and putting an end to Kai’s speech.
“Yes, we are,” Kai said, surprisingly confident, and all Yeonjun hoped is for that confidence to remain throughout the wedding.
“You know, Kai, I heard Taehyun is pretty excited to see his husband-to-be,” Soobin said, a teasing smirk on his face.
Kai blushed and hid his face in Yeonjun’s shoulder, making both Yeonjun and Soobin laugh at his cuteness.
“Alright, that’s enough teasing for our groom. Let’s get him downstairs to the love of his life, shall we?” Yeonjun asked after he stopped laughing.
Kai nodded while pouting, his face slightly red as Yeonjun went through the finishing touches, dusting his suit, adjusting his tie, and ruffling his hair before he opened the door. Yeonjun had a proud smile on his face as he watched Soobin interlock his hand with Kai before walking out.
Yeonjun was glad when he found out that Kai had asked Soobin to walk him down the aisle. After Soobin had supported Kai during the whole fiasco with his family not approving of his relationship with Taehyun, he deserved the honor and Yeonjun was ready to fight anyone who said otherwise.
As soon as Kai stepped into the wedding hall and locked his gaze with Taehyun, a large smile broke out onto both of their faces. Yeonjun followed Kai’s gaze and spotted the couple staring at each other, but it didn’t take long before his eyes found something even more beautiful to look at, and that was Beomgyu smiling widely at them. The second Yeonjun met Beomgyu’s gaze, Kai’s words from earlier popped into his head and suddenly nothing else mattered because one single thought was stuck in his mind. He thought about how he wanted to be the reason behind Beomgyu’s smile and how he wanted to marry the younger as soon as possible. And it was at that moment that Yeonjun realized how strong his urge to marry Beomgyu was, and he made the decision to propose to the younger. He had to do it today but first, he needed Kai and Taehyun’s permission. He was not going to spoil their wedding just because he came to the sudden realization that he wanted to marry his boyfriend. In the end, it was their special day and he had no right to take away their spotlight.
The wedding ceremony went very smoothly with everything being as ethereal and beautiful as they’d planned. After the main ceremony was over and Beomgyu was busy talking to guests, Yeonjun made his way over to the married couple, his heart beating at a hundred miles per hour. Yeonjun nodded to himself and encouraged himself; he’s talking to his best friends. There was absolutely nothing to be worried about!
Yeojun let out a deep breath as he caught the couple’s attention, “Hey, Tae, Kai. I wanted to ask you both something.”
The couple nodded, motioning for the older to continue.
“You remember what we talked about before the wedding, Kai?” Kai nodded as Yeonjun smiled sheepishly. “I realized that I want to be the reason why Beomgyu smiles too. And so I might have come here to ask you if I can propose on the dance floor.”
Yeonjun felt his heart drop when the couple didn't answer him immediately and turned to look at each other with a blank face. However, his worries dissipated in an instant when the two of them turned to him with bright grins on their faces as they nodded furiously with Kai exclaiming, “Of course, hyung! Go get your man!” Yeonjun’s heart almost skipped a beat but he immediately told Kai to lower his voice.
As the newlywed couple danced during the reception, Beomgyu approached his boyfriend and the two linked arms.
“Hi,” Beomgyu said as he leaned his head on his boyfriend’s arm.
“Hi Beomie, are you tired?” Yeonjun asked as he ran his hand through the younger’s hair, making sure he didn't ruin his perfectly styled hair.
“No,” Beomgyu answered simply, and Yeonjun could hear tiredness in his voice.
“Wanna dance?” Yeonjun asked, hoping his boyfriend would say yes so he could proceed with his plan.
“Next piece, please,” Beomgyu said from his position and Yeonjun smiled to himself.
When the piece, Clair de Lune, was about to end, Beomgyu fixed his posture and shyly asked, “Hey, would you like to dance with me?”
Yeonjun chuckled at his boyfriend’s shyness but nodded in agreement and they both moved towards the dance floor.
“Do you remember how we met, hyung?” Beomgyu asked, and Yeonjun found himself focusing on only him.
“I remember. We met at your brother’s wedding. I was invited because I was the best TA he’d ever had” Yeonjun chuckled.
“I still remember how you shyly asked me out to dance with you,” Beomgyu said as Yeonjun reminisced about their first meeting and that’s when something hit him.
“You were mocking me when you asked me for a dance a while ago, weren’t you?” Yeonjun asked with a faux anger, making Beomgyu laugh at how it had always been so easy to tease Yeonjun.
Soon, Liebesträume started playing and Yeonjun got a feeling of déjà vu; that piano piece was the same piece on which the couple shared their first dance.
When the piece was about to end, the couple was at the center of the dance floor, and when the spotlight fell on them, Yeonjun finally remembered his ultimate motive of proposing to Beomgyu.
Yeonjun stopped dancing, a small smile on his face as he moved to bend down on one knee. However, before he could fully bend down, Beomgyu dropped onto a knee before him and pulled out a box from his coat’s pocket.
“Choi Yeonjun, the most beautiful man to ever exist. The love of my life. Will you marry me and be a part of my life for as long as the universe allows?”
Yeonjun freezed for a millisecond at being caught off guard but let out a shocked chuckle as he nodded and extended his hand towards Beomgyu. “Yes. Beomie. I’d like to be a part of your life- no, I’d like to be yours forever.”
Just as Beomgyu put the ring onto Yeonjun’s finger, everyone around them bursted into cheers.
After getting congratulation greetings from everyone, Beomgyu and Yeonjun made their way to their friends.
“You knew Beomgyu was going to propose, didn’t you?” Yeonjun accused Taehyun, glaring at him with faux anger while the younger merely chuckled and shrugged as he started bragging about how flawless his acting was.
The five of them enjoyed the night, keeping each other company and making good memories. And then, after being engaged for over an year, Beomgyu and Yeonjun had their wedding on a beautiful winter afternoon where the proposal was mentioned in Taehyun’s best man speech.
