Work Text:
The Untouchables
A poem about what’s left of summer when the leaves fall
They’ve all tried before, sure
And failed
Their summers moved by in a blur
But this night is clear
It’s the end of the year
And we’re here
We’ll change the world
Let time fly like a bird
Spread our wings and flee from everything above
Find true love
We are the Untouchables
They all failed but not us, we said, not us
Let’s get drunk in a field
And go show them what we’re made of
Let’s fall in love
And fly
Let’s go kiss on streets and cry
Let’s go scream their names and try
To make what’s wrong right
To make tonight endless
But not us, we said, not us
We have so much time to spare and laughs to cry
We all have reasons why
We’re here
We’re different and alive, we’re the children of a broken nation
Ready to run on any occasion
Not us, we said, because we’re what killed the dinosaurs
We’re the ones who know our flaws
We’re the ones to end the wars
What is and what once was
After heaven, there isn’t much above
But us
The Untouchables
So the wind grew cold
And waters went still
Instead of love letters we now receive bill after bill
Do this do that
But we’re not there yet!
We’re young, we’re free, we’re the fosterlings of victory!
Tried to put us back together
Unanswered messages lost in the dark forever
An empty promise of what used to be, what could have been and never will
What once were plans turned into a thrill
Of who would give up first
We are the Untouchables, we shouted
Go tear us apart, we won’t care
And when we eventually tore each other apart
You took your heart
And threw it away to rot
So here I’m sitting
Looking up to Luna and asking where we went south
And the words that fell from her mouth
Were these:
Because you touched the sky and soared too high
You cried out flames and drowned your names
And in agony and shame
You fell victim to your pain
In the middle of the spell you cast
You fell, forever to be blessed
And easy as that
Lost in the crowds and blames
The Untouchables lost their own names
