Hat Conversations

Summary:

The sorting of the Lupin-Potter-Weasley family, and of some of their friends and enemies.

Work Text:

Teddy Remus Lupin – 2009
“A strong sense of loyalty and very patient but also brave, jmm,” said the little voice on the blue-haired boy’s ear.
“So, Hufflepuff, right?” he replied.
“Indeed, HUFFLEPUFF!”

Victoire Gabrielle Weasley – 2010
“Ah, one more Weasley generation,” the hat said with a sigh, “a girl, interesting, uncommon.”
“I know what you mean, but not anymore, I have a younger sister and many girl cousins. But I know Aunt Ginny was the first Weasley girl in seven generations. I made a genealogy project on this subject last year, for school you know. I got the highest score and my teacher said it was very creative to focus my project on the percentage of women on my family. The other kids made tress for some reason and laugh about my diagram.”
“Very interesting, RAVENCLAW!”
“No, wait, Teddy!” But the hat was removed from her blonde head and she couldn’t discus with it anymore. The people on the hall was applauding and cheering and Teddy was even jumping up and down on the Hufflepuff table. Victoire gave him a little wave and sat morosely at the Ravenclaw table. At least her house’s table and Teddy’s were next to each other.

Lucy Audrey Weasley – 2011
“Hello Mr. Hat, I liked your song.”
“Thank you, HUFFLEPUF!”

Molly Weasley II – 2011
“Listen hat, I know you just put my sister on Hufflepuff, but I am not a hard worker at all. Just ask my dad, he’ll tell you I should apply myself more to my studies and work harder at math, blah, blah.”
“I see, maybe…no, better be GRYFFINDOR!”

Dominique Ginevra Weasley – 2012
A quite tall girl, for her eleven years, with strawberry-blonde hair sat with a happy smile on her face. After a long silence, the hat asked her if she was going to say anything.
“Oh! I don’t have anything particularly to say. I trust you.”
The hat snickered and yelled “GRYFFINDOR!”

Roxanne Alicia Weasley – 2013
“Easy, quite easy, GRYFFINDOR!”

Louis Charles Weasley – 2013
“Now, this is intriguing!” exclaimed the hat.
“What? All the others have had simple minds, not surprising really,” replied the boy with shoulder length blonde hair. He, like his sisters, had almost no freckles which was quite rare on the Weasley family.
“I see such cunning and loyalty, yes, very loyal,” continue the hat.
“Okey…”
“Yes, there Is no other, SLYTHERIN!” The boy didn’t stand up immediately, there was a bit of applause on the hall, but nothing like with the others. Someone took the hat off his head.
“Louis, come on, to your table now,” said Professor Longbottom kindly. Louis walked dazed towards the table on the far right. His sisters and some of his cousins were about to stand up and go to him but, as he was the last first-year to be sorted, the Headmistress stood up and after a few words, food appear on the tables. Victoire wanted to go to him but he gave a quick shake of his head, took a deep breath and started talking with the other first-years.

James Sirius Potter – 2015
“You are quite like your mother, very brave, tenacious. You’ll do well in GRYFFINDOR!”

Fred Weasley II – 2015
“I would like to be with Jamie in Gryffindor. He’s my best friend.”
“Alright, GRYFFINDOR!”

Albus Severus Potter – 2017
“Slytherin, send me to Slytherin!” commanded the short, black-haired boy.
“Are you sure? I see you’re very loyal, yes, but it’s best-“
“NO! Slytherin! Listen, I cheated on my exams, ok? Not all but quite a few, math and science are not my thing. And I broke a kid’s nose once and push another off the swing set. And it’s not like I like having high grades, I don’t care about that, but I knew that if I got better grades than my siblings I would get to do the things I actually like. That’s cunning right?”
“Jmm yes, but-“
“No but, my dad told me you let him chose Gryffindor. Well, I’m choosing Slytherin. If I go to Gryffindor, I’ll just be Harry Pooter two. You don’t have eyes, but I look very much like him and I want to be my own person.”
The hat snickered, “If you insist, let it be SLYTHERIN!” Albus threw the hat off and ran to the blond boys that were cheering on the Slytherin table. He didn’t even realize that the rest of the hall was very silent and that his brother was standing up with his mouth hanging opened.

Rose Nymphadora Weasley – 2017
“Did Albus choose ask for Slytherin?”
“That’s a personal matter,” replied the hat rather stiffly.
“I know he did, I’m sure of it.”
“Why ask then? If you are sure.”
“It’s good to rely on facts.”
“Always?”
“No, you also have to have an open mind to find solutions.”
“True, RAVENCLAW!”

Lily Luna Potter – 2019
“A very interesting mind, very creative.”
“Thank you, so kind of you!” The hat laughed shortly before proclaiming, “RAVENCLAW!”
Once again, the applause was a bit less than with others. Three Potters, four if count Teddy Lupin, and only one Gryffindor; even the Headmistress was a bit astonished and quite preoccupied. She would have preferred to have them all in one house, easier to handle she thought. Now, she was sure there was going to be mayhem on every common room.

Hugo Rubeus Weasley – 2019
“A strong thirst for knowledge and patience to chase answers.”
“I guess?”
“HUFFLEPUFF!”
“I though you were going to say Ravenclaw!” exclaimed the boy, keeping the hat on his head, but it refused to talk.

The sorting of Hugo Weasley, as the last of the Golden Trio’s children, was of great interest too many. Four set of Gryffindor parents and only one child on the house of red and gold seemed impossible, many bets were lost.
The Sorting Hat was quite pleased when he sent all the Weasley children to their respective houses. It thought they were some of the most memorable sortings, but there were others, of course. The hat remembered when the Wood siblings, Maxwell and Veronica fought until they were put in Gryffindor. Then the Long bottoms, Alice and Frank. They were easy, the girl was very obviously a Gryffindor and the boy a Hufflepuff. Collin Creavey II was a bit of a challenge, almost three minutes, but the hat was sure he would be fine in the house of his father and namesake. The Scamander twins were their mother through and through, straight to Ravenclaw.
And then, were the Death Eater children, as the hat like to call them. Scorpius Malfoy tried to make a request, but the request in itself was so Slytherin that there was no other choice; as fast as his father he went to the house of green and silver. Vincent Goyle was even faster to sort, also a Slytherin. The Zabini twins, Bartolomeu and Bernanrd were very difficult. The Hat lasted five minutes with each one, at the end were the boys themselves, tired that said “Just send me to Slytherin.” Both said the exact same thing.

There were five interesting cases of Muggleborns that were clearly Slytherin. The hat wouldn’t remember the last time such a thing happened and to have five, in consecutive years, made the hat thing that maybe it was time to retire. It was a very old, ratty hat after all, but no one else can do its job.
