Yakisoba

Summary:

Just a bit of banter over a plate of Yakisoba.

Notes:

Marius might be a bit OOC. Loosely inspired by the 6th June 2021 prompt in the 31 Days community: Now you hang from my lips like the Gardens of Babylon

Work Text:

Finally, after what seems like forever, you and Kiki finally leave the stall with steaming plates of Yakisoba.

The scent wafting up from the freshly fried noodles has your mouth watering in anticipation. You wonder if it will actually be as good as the rave reviews on social media.

Just as the both of you reach the picnic tables set up in the makeshift dining area, Kiki looks at her phone and squeals in dismay.

“Ah. My friend asked me to get her something and I completely forgot!”

“What? Do it later! Your food will get cold!” You call out after Kiki as she scurries away.

“No time! It might sell out! I’ll be right back. Save my plate for me!”

...

“Wow, something smells absolutely delicious!”

You look straight into the megawatt brilliance of a Von Hagen charm offensive and roll your eyes.

“Great! Go buy your own plate.” You reply, deadpan, pointing towards the stall.

“Eh, but the queue is crazy long right now. Can’t I just have one mouthful?”

“No. Because this is mine. And this,” you say, laughingly slapping his hands away, “is my friend's portion. Shoo! Shoo!”

“But I’m your friend too. Your starving artist friend!” Marius pouts, a hurt look on his face.

“You can easily afford to feed yourself. And I’ll have you know the kicked puppy look is not going to work on me.”

“Pwetty please oneesan?” Somehow he’s managed to make his eyes bigger and even more vulnerable looking.

“No. Also, if you have to lisp, at least lisp consistently. Otherwise it's just annoying.” Your sweet smile belies your acerbic tone.

“Fine. How about a trade.” Marius smirks, a self satisfied grin settling on his face. “One mouthful of the famous yakisoba for a very, very important piece of information?”

“Ha. I am not falling for that. What could you possibly tell me to make it worth my while.” You shrug and keep eating.

“Oh. I’m sure you’ll want to know.” Marius arches an eloquent brow at you, all traces of levity gone in an instant. “What I’m offering to tell you is of vital importance. It could affect your life. Your reputation. Your public image. It could change everything. Are you sure you don’t want to know?”

You roll your eyes at him, before relenting. “Fine. You can have the rest, I’m full anyway.”

“Great!” In a few gulps, Marius practically inhales the remainder of the yakisoba. “Now I see why this stall is so popular!”

“It’s that good right.” Then, setting your face in your best approximation of a stern expression you look up at your boyfriend and demand haughtily.

“Now spill it.”

He leans in close. Close enough that harassment charges would have been a real possibility had he been anyone else. Close enough for you to feel his breath tickling your ear. Close enough to make you worry about the garlic laden gyoza you ate earlier.

For one breathless moment, he hovers there, and you feel the inexplicable, inevitable blush rising.

“You have seaweed on your teeth.”

“Marius! Von! Hagen!”
