Work Text:

Lalisa Manoban never believed in love at first sight. She always thought that it was utter bullshit. Watching her friends gush over boys and girls, claiming to have fallen in love at first sight, made her wonder how someone could believe in such ridiculous things. Falling in love at first sight? You don't even know the person so technically you fell in love with their body. And it wasn't really a secret that people weren't always as good on the inside as compared to on the outside.

However, all that changed the day Lisa set her eyes on Jeon Jungkook for the first time. It was a coincidence. An extremely rare coincidence. Lisa was on the field with her friends, listening to them talk about their ideal types.

When Jisoo asked her about her ideal type, she had chosen to scoff and roll her eyes, “I don't have an ideal type. I'd rather focus on soccer right now than go looking for love. I have more than enough time for that-”

Her friends were confused when Lisa had suddenly stopped speaking and was staring straight ahead. They had followed her line of sight to find a boy with brown hair and pink highlights standing by the main office, looking utterly lost.

“Lisa?”

Lisa snapped out of her trance and cleared her throat as she forced her attention back to her friends, “Yeah? Um, where was I?”

Jennie raised her eyebrows in amusement as Taehyung said, “You know, we won't judge you if you decide to go and help that lost bunny out, Lis.”

Lisa contemplated the offer and narrowed her eyes at Taehyung, “Fuck you and I don't want to hear one word about this later. I swear to god if you say anything, you'll be dead before you know it.”

“Aw, Lis, I’d fuck you if I wasn’t gay.” called out Taehyung as the others burst into laughter, Lisa ignoring him as she walked forward with purpose and stopped straight in front of the lost bunny.

“Hello! Are you lost?”

The bunny boy flinched when he heard her, making her wince and apologize for scaring him.

“O-oh, it's okay. I'm, yes I'm kinda lost....”

Lisa grinned as she shoved her hand towards him, “I'd be glad to help you out! I'm Lalisa!”

The bunny boy looked slightly taken aback as he shook Lisa's hand, “Hello, I'm Jungkook. I'm new. I transferred from Busan.”

Lisa hummed as she let go of his very soft hand, “That's great! I've visited Busan once and I loved it. On that note, where are you headed to?”

“Well, I don't know what I'm supposed to do....”

Lisa hummed as she motioned for him to follow her, “No worries. I suppose we can start by going to the office and getting you your schedule.”

That day was when Lisa had seen Jungkook's beautiful smile which could only be compared to a bunny's and she had made it her personal mission to always make him smile.

As weeks passed, Jungkook started settling well in the school. Even though Lisa wouldn't admit it, she was over the moon when she found out that Jungkook shared most of her classes. Her friends kept teasing her for being so lovesick even though she constantly threatened them.

However, that did not affect Lisa much because she had already accepted that she was whipped for the bunny boy and would get him one day.

While Jungkook and Lisa's friendship had started developing, Jungkook had made himself a few other friends too. Lisa wasn’t really surprised when she saw that Jungkook had made friends with Kim Namjoon, the class president because that said boy was one of the kindest people and would always be ready to help any and everyone out.

What did surprise her was that Jungkook had somehow managed to become friends with Min Yoongi, the quiet kid, who was widely known for being sarcastic. Other than them Jungkook had befriended two cheerleaders, Jisoo and Chaeyoung along with her brother Hoseok.

Given her reputation in the school, Lisa wasn’t surprised that Jungkook’s friends hated her instantly and tried their best to keep Jungkook away from her. At first, she thought it was cute. Watching Chaeyoung pop out of nowhere and drag Jungkook with her if he was talking to Lisa with a stupid excuse like ‘Hoseok was looking for you’.

But when this kept happening for over a month, Lisa was losing her patience and was this close to losing it. Fortunately, Seokjin was smarter and gave her a better option when she was whining about it during their daily study sessions.

**

“-and then that fucker Jisoo popped up and took Kookie away with her because she needed help with her homework.”

Seokjin sighed as he stopped Laisa before she could continue, “Hun, stop bitching about this for a second and think about what you can do to change this.”

Lisa huffed and pouted at Seokjin as she tried to think of things she could do.

“I have a few ideas I guess?”

Seokjin raised an amused eyebrow and nodded, “Go ahead.”

“First, I can secretly beat-”

“No beating people up. How many times do I have to tell you that’s not good?”

“Ugh, okay. How about getting someone to-”

“-beat them up. No. For fuck’s sake, Lis, no violence.”

Lisa huffed as she thought of a few non-violent options, “Okay, no violence. You got it. How about threatening-”

That had clearly been the wrong thing to say because Seokjin had slammed his hands on the table, eliciting surprised noises from Taehyung and Jimin who had been busy making out and waking Jennie up from where she was busy napping.

“What? Why are you getting angry?” questioned Lisa, enraging Seokjin even further, however, Jimin saved her by cutting in.

“Because you’re not seeing the other options. The ones that require you to use your fucking brains. Oh wait, you don’t have them.”

“Fuck off, Jimin, what do you know? You were busy sucking Tae’s face off.”

Taehyung shook his head and sighed as he wrapped his arms around Jimin, “Lis, you know better than to think we didn’t listen to your conversation even while making out.

Jennie made a fake gagging noise as she turned her focus to Lisa, “Lisa, a piece of very important and helpful advice. Shut the fuck up for some time and let Jin impart some well-needed knowledge.”

Lisa huffed and turned to Seokjin, “Sure, sure. Go ahead, impart your well-needed knowledge.”

“First of all, the main problem here is that you have a bad reputation in school. Don’t you?”

Lisa opened her mouth to answer but remembered Jennie’s orders to stay silent and nodded as Seokjin continued, “Good. Now what you need to do is convince Jungkook’s friends that you’re not as bad as people make you sound.”

“BAD? The fuck-”

“Lisa.”

Lisa huffed and stopped herself when Jennie glared at her.

“Thank you, Jen. Anyways, Lis, my best advice to you is that you interact with his friends in a nonhostile, calm, way and befriend them. Show them how you act with us-”

“Are you sure about that, Jin? Won’t that spoil her chances with Jungkook? I can’t imagine his friends accepting her if she straight up goes and steals their food, smacks them at random times, treats them with pure sarcasm-”

Jimin groaned and smacked Taehyung’s head, “Dumbass! Jin clearly means the good part of her. The one that cuddles you when you need to be cuddled, brings you food, makes sure you’re okay, is always there to help you-”

Lisa made a disgusted noise as she stood up, “Ugh, no. I’m not gonna hear any more of this sappy shit. I’m outta here. Thanks for the idea. I’ll figure something out.”

The other four laughed as the girl left the cafe.

**

Lisa took a deep breath and tried to calm her nerves down as she went over the plan in her head. Divide and conquer. She would win over each of them one by one. She could do it. Lisa gulped as she made her over to where Jungkook was standing outside on his class with... Chaeyoung and Jisoo. Fuck.

“Hey, Kook!” greeted Lisa with a big smile as she walked up to the three. “Hey, Jisoo, Chaeyoung. How are you all doing today?”

Lisa fought the urge to smirk when Chaeyoung and Jisoo looked slightly surprised and turned her attention to Jungkook.

“Hey, Lisa! We’re good! How are you?”

“I’m good as well. I’m actually here to ask if you want to go out for lunch with me? I found a really nice cafe down the street. We can go there for our break and come back in time.”

Jungkook nodded and opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by Jisoo who smile sweetly at Lisa, “Jungkook has to finish some things first. Sorry.”

Lisa tried her best not to bristle at Jisoo’s attempt and sighed, “Aw, I was hoping all of us could go together.”

“I’m sorry but what?”

Lisa raised an eye at Chaeyoung and shrugged, “I thought all four of us could go together for lunch.”

Jungkook grinned wide as he nodded and stepped forward, “Oh! Let’s go!”

Lalisa couldn’t help but smile as she turned to the two girls, “You’re coming with us right?”

And as expected they came along. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned. As much as Lisa tried to win the two girls, it seemed that they hated her even more by the time they left. Nevertheless, Lisa didn’t give up.

Next up, Jung Hoseok. If the boy was as kind as people said he was, then it was going to be easy to win him over.

**

“Hoseok-ssi!”

Hoseok turned around to see Lisa- wait a minute. Lisa? Lalisa Manoban? Why?- walk over to him with a surprisingly polite and friendly smile on her face.

“Lalisa-ssi.” nodded Hoseok in the form of a greeting, not wanting to interact with the girl any more than necessary because the fact that she willingly (wait who knows if she came willingly?) came to him was creeping the fuck out of him.

“Uh, all my friends call me Lisa. No need to be so formal.”

“I didn’t know we were friends, Lalisa-ssi.”

Lisa froze for a second at Hoseok’s hostile behavior, fuck. What was she thinking when she believed what everyone said about Hoseok? Clearly, he was one of those who’ll hate the person they hate with all their being. But there was no way she was letting something like that knock her off her game. She was going to work hard for Jungkook!

“Oh, I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable Hoseok-ssi. Anyways, the main reason why I’m here is that I need your help. I’m taking part in a dance competition downtown and I need someone to review it for me. Can you help me please?”

Hoseok raised an amused eyebrow, clearly not expected the way this conversation was going because he had half expected Lisa to threaten him or something for keeping Jungkook away from her. And as much as he hated her, he knew that he’d help her.

“Uh, sure, Lalisa-ssi. I don’t mind helping you out.”

Lisa grinned as she nodded and led the boy towards the dance studio. It was working!

Yeah. No. Lisa’s plan failed miserably. Hoseok was way too strict for her. She had run through her choreography at least 6 times for Hoseok to observe and figure out what needed changes and an additional 4 times once he figured out the changes and made her practice. And by the time Lisa left, she had made zero progress with Hoseok for anything other than refining her choreography.

Fuck her life.

What had she done to have it all so hard? God, what the fuck was she thinking when she decided to win over all of her crush’s friends to technically ask for their permission to ask her crush out?

Okay, this was bad.

Maybe she’d do well with Namjoon?

**

Nope. Once again Lisa had failed at her mission. This failure being the worst of them all since Namjoon was clearly one of the people whose opinion mattered the most in anything related to Jungkook. For starters, she had stalked him around all day to find a good bonding opportunity and found it when Namjoon had gone to the library with a lot of books.

After all, what better way to bond than categorizing books?

Yeah turns out that was not a good way to bond because after Lisa had managed to convince Namjoon to let her help, things went sideways pretty quick. For starters, Namjoon had to tell her where to place every single thing. And when she tried to make casual conversation about the books she’d read, it didn’t go well. Turns out Namjoon only reads books that Lisa would never dare to touch. Fun times.

So what if three of her tries were a failure? She still had one last try, the most difficult one of them all.

Min Yoongi.

**

Unlike all her other tries, this one turned out to be a whole-ass plot twist in her pathetic non-existent love life. Lisa had gone to the music room one-day early morning with coffee for Yoongi. She’d heard (and confirmed) that Yoongi was prone to working a lot and had quite an obsession with coffee.

Lisa had made sure to knock before entering the music room and found Yoongi sitting by the piano. She had smiled at him and explained why she was visiting him (not the real reason aka Jungkook) and offered him the coffee she’d brought.

And oh, no words could describe how relieved Lisa felt when Yoongi complimented the coffee and thanked her for bringing it to him. She was half-convinced something bad was going to happen, but she apparently had luck on her side.

Unfortunately, things did not end there.

“Ah, Lalisa-ssi.” called out Yoongi when Lisa was about to leave. “Do you mind doing me a favor?”

Lisa stopped in her steps and turned around with a confused expression on her face, “Uh, me? You want my help? I mean, sure, Yoongi-ssi. What can I do for you?”

Yoongi smiled as he nodded, “Yes, could you please come with me?”

And Lisa was not proud to say that she was absolutely terrified of the smile on Yoongi’s face. All she could hope was to not be killed.

**

“Um, why are we here?” asked Lisa when she noticed Jungkook’s other friends sitting in the empty classroom.

“To talk and clear this shit out once and for all,” answered Jisoo as she motioned for Lisa to take a seat in one lone chair placed near the front desk.

Lisa gulped as she sat down. No matter how violent she seemed, there was no way in hell she could take on five people at once. Oh god, having a crush was going to get her killed-

“Please for the love of God, stop thinking.” groaned Hoseok, snapping Lisa out of her thoughts.

“Why have you brought me here?” she asked.

“We’ve brought you here because we know what you’re trying to do,” answered Namjoon as Chaeyoung continued.

“We know you’re trying to win all of us over so that you can ask Jungkook out.”

Lisa froze for a second before nodding, this was it. She had to do it!

“Yes. I want to ask Jungkook out but that wasn’t possible because the five of you gatekept him. This was the only way I could ask him out.”

Yoongi hummed, “Yeah, no shit sherlock. Both you and I know what people say about you around the school. Ofcourse we would be suspicious of you.”

Lisa opened her mouth to speak but Yoongi cut her off with a shake of his head, “No, no. You’ve done enough. Let us speak.”

Lisa sighed as Jisoo took over, “I’m not fond of this whole mystery thing everyone is trying to go for so I’m gonna be frank. You succeeded. You won all of us over and we give you the permission to ask Jungkook out.”

Lisa froze. She had not expected that. A few minutes passed with her in too much shock to say anything. Once she’d recovered, the curiosity hit her with full force.

“No offense, I’m really happy that you all are okay with me asking Jungkook out but how did you come to that? I don’t think my plans worked at all.”

The others smiled as they went ahead and explained their reasons.

Chaeyoung and Jisoo knew that Lisa would be good for Jungkook and won’t hurt him when they went out for lunch. The two of them had seen how perfectly Lisa treated Jungkook, making sure the food was to his liking and behaved like a perfect gentleman or in her case woman.

As for Hoseok and Namjoon, the two of them were pleased with how she was hell-bent on trying to make them like her all because she wanted to ask Jungkook out. The fact that she was trying her best for something as mere as a crush was more than enough for Hoseok and Namjoon to give in.

Last but not the least, Yoongi. He unlike the others never hated Lisa or thought she wasn’t good for Jungkook. To be honest, he saw that she was a bit like him. The way she acted with Jungkook and the way she acted with everyone else had a drastic difference. And who other than Yoongi knew about being two people at the same time? The real you and the one you put up for everyone. Even though he had never gotten a chance to interact with the real version of Lisa, he’d seen her interact with Jungkook, and honestly, that had been enough.

By the time everyone finished explaining, Lisa was ready. She already had an idea in mind about how to ask Jungkook out. And so she’d wasted no time in thanking the others and rushing off to prepare. She had waited too long.
