A breeze swept through the surrounding land. Tree branches swaying slightly, shaking autumn colored leaves off. The leaves danced and fluttered to the ground. Leaves crunched beneath brown combat boots. A pink haired boy was making his way through the forest. The boy clutched his coat tighter as a shadow passed overhead.
“Techno!” Another boy chirped from above. Technoblade looked up towards the boy. The person addressing him adorned short messy brown curly hair and honey brown eyes. Two brown wings accompanied him, the brown faded into a dark gray at the wing tips as if they were permanently stained with soot. “Hey Wilbur.” The piglin hybrid responded in his usual monotone voice. Unlike his acquaintance, Technoblade had straight, long, pink hair. Unique maroon red eyes, he had no wings of his own.
Instead Technoblade had tusks protruding from the bottom of his mouth. Long elf-like ears, and a skinny tail with a fluffy tip. Though the two boys looked like polar opposites. They were brothers, twins to be in fact. Wilbur soared down, the boy landed clumsily. Causing his twin to snort as he stumbled a bit. The brunette was only just learning to fly, so he had mishaps here and there.
Another pair of wings could be heard in the air. Following where Wilbur and Techno were. “Dad! Down here!’ The boys called in unison as their father spotted them. The other avian hybrid smiled and slightly tucked his wings in. He quickly flew towards the ground, unfurling them once more to slow down. Of course, Philza landed with the smoothness and grace Wilbur did not have. Though that was expected from someone who had more experience.
A flash of blond hair could be seen as another boy squirmed against Philza’s grip. “Dad, I can manage on my own!” The boy huffed, grumbling as the elder set the five year old down. “Sure you can mate.” Philza snorted as Tommy’s wings twitched in annoyance. The people joining them now both had a matching set of blond hair and blue eyes. Though Philza’s hair was more platinum while Tommy’s was vibrant.
Philza’s eyes were a light and bright piercing blue. As if you were staring at nothing but land encased with ice. Sometimes, they could be just as cold as ice as well. While Tommy’s eyes were a deep, vivid blue. A blue you find hard to look away from as it enchants you. “You should teach me how to fly! I’m ready!” Tommy exclaimed, his wings slightly flapping behind him.
“Yeah right.” Wilbur scoffed, earning a glare from the younger. “You’re still too young Toms, besides Wilbur has only just begun to learn to fly a few months ago.” Philza responded, giving his youngest son a soft smile. Tommy huffed as he slouched, obviously sulking. Techno’s tail twitched in amusement as he watched the exchange. “C’mon guys let’s start going home.” The piglin hybrid finally spoke. The others nodded in agreement.
Wilbur grinned and ran forward, leaping into the air. His wings opened and caught an autumn breeze. He laughed as he began to fly. The boy soared into the air and unlike his landing skills Techno had to admit he was quite graceful when flying. The sunlight shone on his wings, giving them a soft yellow glow. Technoblade turned his head to see his father smiling fondly and Tommy watching his eyes gleaming with amazement.
Techno couldn’t help but smile as well. Wilbur flew on ahead, his shadow casting over the forest. “Wilbur! wait for us!” Tommy called out to the brunette and began to chase after him. His own wings slightly flapping behind him. Technoblade laughed as he ran after his brothers. Philza stayed behind, watching his sons run off with a loving smile. He shook his head and bounded after his kids, laughing as well.

Wilbur huffed, outstretching his wings to groom them. He groaned as he was having a bit of difficulty. He shifted once more to try and get a different angle that might help. He huffed and slumped over, his ears twitching as he heard somebody open his room door. The brunette perked up and looked over curiously. Tommy was peeking into his room.
“Tommy?” Wilbur called out, the other boy stiffened as he realized he was noticed. The young boy slowly stepped into the room. “What’s up Toms?” The brown eyed boy asked. The blond slowly shuffled closer, fiddling with the hem of his sleeve. “I can see you’re having trouble.” The boy began. “I can help preen your wings,” Tommy hesitated watching his brother's reaction. The brunette only smiled, amusement sparkling in his eyes.
“Alright big man, let's see what you can do.” Wilbur chuckled as Tommy beamed and quickly joined Will on his bed. The older boy turned his back on the boy and outstretched his wings. He felt tentative hands begin to run through his primary feathers. “Your wings look different from dad’s.” The young boy noted. Wilbur nodded along as a soft hum of contentment sounded from him as his feathers were fixed and straightened. Tommy placed stray feathers aside, a small pile forming. “That’s because dad and I have a different wing type.” Will responded as Tommy moved onto his secondary feathers.
“There are different types?” The boy asked, his hands no longer tentative but still held gentleness as he weaved through feathers. “Of course there is Toms.” Wilbur chuckled as the boy grew embarrassed. “Of course they do, I know this.” The boy snorted through an edge of embarrassment that could be heard in his voice. “I know I have the best type.” He proclaimed finishing up Wilbur’s secondary feathers, moving onto the coverts. “I’m sure you do, Tommy.” Will responded with amusement clear in his voice.
Tommy huffed his wings twitching behind him. “So, what type of wings does dad have?” He asked. Wilbur pondered this question for a moment, prodding his memories for the explanation of wing types. “He has elliptical wings. They’re more rounded and circular, great for bursts of fast and tightly controlled flight.” The honey-eyed boy explained. The blonde’s eyes gleamed with amazement. “They’re the type of wings you see on crows, and ordinary flight for elliptical wings is slow.” He continued.
Tommy gave a hum of interest. “So dad’s really fast when he’s only flying for a short amount of time?” Tommy asked and Wilbur nodded. “Yeah, like that.” He responded. “Okay now, what about my wings?” The boy perked up as Wilbur paused for a bit. “Your wings are passive soaring wings, which are the kind you see on hawks or eagles-” “Fuck yea!” Tommy exclaimed, cutting the older off who promptly wacked the other with his wings. “Tommy.” Wilbur sternly said, the boy settled down but his eyes shone with pride. “Your wings are long and broader than most wings, with gaps in between your primary feathers.” The brunette continued as the hands running through his fingers stopped, a sign the boy was done. Wilbur turned around to face his younger brother who had his wings slightly outstretched and was checking them out
Tommy had tawny colored wings with random flecks of white. Wilbur couldn’t lie he had always loved to look at Tommy’s wings whenever the sunlight shone on them. It gave them a golden color. Wilbur tucked his already folded wings in more. Feeling self conscious about his own color. “Your wings are great for soaring and the gaps help with catching rising hot air which helps you continue to soar.” He finished explaining as Tommy gave a bright grin.
Wilbur couldn’t help but smile as well. “And you?” The blue eyed boy asked, eyes boring into Wilbur with anticipation. The other shied away. “Oh that doesn’t matter.” He responded dismissively with a small wave of his hand. Tommy frowned and grumbled. “I want to know!” The boy demanded and Wilbur groaned, although a fond smile never left his features. “My wings are high speed wings, they’re medium-long and narrow.” The boy paused feeling more self conscious but an encouraging stare from Tommy made him continue. “They’re great for sustaining speed, which means I can move very fast for a long period of time. They are the type of wings you see on falcons and swallows.” He finished explaining as Tommy gaped. “So you’re the fastest out of all of us?” The boy pouted but wasn’t actually upset. “Doesn’t matter, I still have the coolest wings.” He gave a cheeky grin as he flicked Wilbur’s forehead.
“Ow- hey!” The boy ran off as Wilbur quickly shot to his feet to follow after him. They ran into the living room, quickly stopping as Philza laid on the couch. Technoblade, the usually stoic teen, asleep cuddling up beside their father. Philza shot them a look that said “be quiet” and the two boys nodded. They looked towards each other and shared cheeky grins. Philza snorted, he knew once Techno awoke the boys would never let him live this down. He held up one of his hands and gestured for the boys to join them.
Tommy quietly but swiftly made his way over and settled on the couch beside his father. Wilbur hesitated but made his way over as well. He settled in the middle of his father and Tommy. He cuddled up next to the older male as his younger brother snuggled into his side. Philza wrapped his sons with his wings, holding them close. Wilbur took a deep breath and enjoyed the warm scent coming through. He buried his face into Philza’s robes as Tommy clung to his yellow sweater. The boy’s eyes grew heavy as warmth enveloped him. He accepted his fate and closed his eyes, joining his twin in sleeping.
Looking back Wilbur would soon realize this would be one of the last times they’d have together as a whole family.
