Chapter Text
It was getting concerning how rarely Joel had slept lately. When you went to bed, he was still awake and when you woke up again, he was already awake. Since you never actually saw him rest during the past week, you were not sure how much sleep he got, but it couldn't be a lot. Your guess was five hours a night at most. At times like this you wished he would take more care of himself.
"Love, I think you should take a nap," you suggested carefully, running your hand down his back as he made another pot of coffee.
He stifled a yawn and turned around, looking at you for a few seconds before sighing. "I guess I should, huh?"
You nodded. "You don't have anything to do today and you really need some sleep."
"Yeah…" Joel said, finally giving in and kissing your forehead before heading to the bedroom.
After telling him to sleep well, you sat on the couch, reading and listening to music with headphones, making sure to be as quiet as possible. You really didn't want to disturb him; he deserved to sleep without noise surrounding him. You also didn't want to wake him up sooner than he would anyway, so you decided to let him sleep for as long as he needed.
Honestly, at the beginning you expected him to walk into the living room half an hour later, but he actually ended up sleeping longer than some nights. In the late afternoon, you heard a soft groan from the other end of the flat, followed by footsteps coming closer. You looked up to see Joel smiling at you and sitting next to you.
"Did you have a good sleep?" you asked, returning the smile.
"I did. Thanks for letting me sleep through," he whispered and lightly squeezed your shoulder.
