The rumbling of thunder was evident throughout the entire hospital, including the operating theatre where Ikjun was standing. It was past midnight when the call from the emergency department came saying that a young girl was in need of surgery. Telling Songhwa to head home first, Ikjun got out of her car and rushed towards the OR wing, not before she gave him a sweet kiss.
“For good luck. Hwaiting!”

The surgery was a success. The girl had suffered major abdominal injuries in a traffic accident, one of which was a liver laceration that did not stop pouring red but that did not deter the HPB surgeon. Realising that it was still raining, Ikjun looked at his watch.
3.30am. I’ll call for a taxi, Songhwa’s probably asleep. He thought. Not long after, a familiar melody flooded his ears. Looking at the caller ID, he let out a chuckle.
“Yah it's late, why are you still up?”
“I’m waiting for you of course!” The woman exclaimed. “We took my car this morning, how else would you return home in the weather?”
Chae Songhwa, you really are something else… Ikjun’s mind wandered off but before he could continue thinking, she spoke again.
“Go change, I’ll meet you in front of the ER in 15 minutes.”
“Arrasseo, see you soon.” The call ended.

Junwan, Jeongwon and Seokhyung were on duty that night and they met Ikjun in the hallway on the way to the ER.
“Thought you went home?” Junwan asked and Jeongwon nodded in agreement.
“Emergency TA patient needed surgery, but I’m heading back now.” Ikjun replied. They were so busy chatting that they didn’t realise they had reached the ER’s entrance. “It’s raining so heavily, how are you getting home? Did you call a taxi? Or is—”
Before Seokhyung could finish his sentence, a familiar white car pulled up and the window rolled down to reveal the only girl in their friend group. Smiling, she waved to the boys and yelled to Ikjun, “Hurry and get in!”
Saying quick goodbyes to the others, Ikjun ran to open the passenger door of the car. Upon being seated, he leaned over the centre console to press his lips onto Songhwa’s before buckling his seatbelt. This action was something the couple did on a regular basis ever since their relationship evolved into one that was more than friends. However, Ikjun seemed to forget that they were in front of the ER, with their band members as an audience.
“YAH YAH!! Why are you kissing her!” Junwan yelled, eyes wide open. He turned and hit Jeongwon, who was so stunned that he took a whole minute before reacting. “Mwo??? You two…. Seriously? Wait what?!”
“THEY KISSED!! Ahn Jeongwon, they—”
“I heard you the first time you yelled so stop yelling!” Jeongwon used his shoulder to push the other away.
“You think they’d give us their houses, cars and stocks now?” Songhwa tried holding in this thought of hers but it ultimately slipped out as she tried to put on her straight face. She failed. Ikjun just laughed in response, realising how casually he kissed her and how she did not back away despite being in public. Looking at his best friend and now girlfriend, he told her to drive home so they could both rest for a bit before coming back to work.
“Bye! Drive safe!” A gentle voice came from Seokhyung, waving and smiling as he watched the couple drive off, happy that his two best friends finally found each other. Jeongwon and Junwan, upon hearing his voice, stopped bickering and stared at the OB-GYN professor.
“Why are you so calm? THEY KISSED!” It was Jeongwon who said that out loud, the last part more for him than anyone else.
“Yah! You’re crazy! Our two best friends just kissed and you’re smiling! How are you smiling?” Junwan added.
Seokhyung’s smile broke into a laugh. When did he become so expressive…
“The other day, Songhwa told us that she and Ikjun were dating. It's your fault for not believing her.” With that, he walked back into the hospital, shivering slightly at the coolness of the rain.
Junwan muttered under his breath, “Yah! This bear...” while Jeongwon could only glare at the empty space. After finally collecting his thoughts, Jeongwon continued, “So Songhwa was being serious that day? Why didn’t you believe her?”
“YOU didn’t believe her either, okay!!”
