Work Text:
Ushijima Yua jolted and opened her eyes looking around the room in a panic. The nightlight her parents put in her room gave the room a yellow glow meaning she could see most things but it didn’t help ease her nerves after the scary nightmare she had of a doll coming to life and running around her room.
Despite only being 4 years old (almost 5) she was smart. Smart enough to realise that the doll monster must have come into her room because of Uncle Toru and Uncle Shōyō as when they were looking after her earlier in the day, they had been talking about an evil doll thinking she couldn’t near them and since they were talking about it, the doll must have realised they were talking about him and woke up.
Frowning, Yua whimpered and clutched her sleeping doll in her arms. She was scared that the doll would come back and no one would be around to protect her. Looking down at the floor she hoped that he wasn’t hiding under her bed, just waiting for her to come out to drag her.
Steadying her nerves just like her fathers taught her, she moved the blankets off of her and got into position to jump off the bed and run. She took four deep breaths before jumping off the bed and running out of the room. She ran down the hall, passing her two younger brothers rooms, all the way to her parent's room at the end of the hall and was glad to see the door was open - in case of emergencies like this - and closed it behind her.

Ushijima had been in a deep and peaceful sleep when he felt something repeatedly hit his arm. He felt his sleep become disturbed as a small voice began to call out. A voice that sounded like his daughter’s.
“Daddy”
“Daddy”
“Daddy!”
His eyes opened and blinked around lazily. Something soft hit his left arm again which helped bring him out of his sleep. His arms were wrapped around his husband Kageyama Tobio so he lifted his arm up to switch on the lamp and look at the little visitor in his room. He looked down at his oldest child and saw her blue eyes were filled with unshed tears and she looked scared. He sat up in worry, carful of Kageyama and his hand moved to caress her small face.
“What’s wrong Yua?” He asked.
“Daddy, evil doll in my room and I had a nightmare about him and I think he’s watching me sleep” she whispered, her voice shaking.
Ushijima frowned and wondered where this was coming from. Yua didn’t usually have nightmares and that was because they were very careful with what she was exposed to, whether it was on the TV, a book or what they spoke about. She was a child and only needed to know about child things. And Yua loved dolls so this fear was coming from nowhere.
Nevertheless, Ushjima’s job as a parent wasn’t to dismiss his children’s fear but to reassure them and make them feel safe. “Do you want Daddy to check your room? And make sure it’s gone?” He asked, making his voice as soft as he possibly could with his sleep laced voice.
Yua nodded enthusiastically, knowing that someone as big and as strong as her daddy could get rid of a scary thing.
“Okay, let me wake up Papa so he can protect you whilst I go look” Ushijima offered. His right arms that had been wrapped around Kageyama’s waist pulling close, loosened and he tapped Kageyama a couple of times and called out his name. “Tobio, my love wake up”.
Almost immediately Kageyama’s eyes were opened and he was asking what was wrong as Ushijima helped him sit up. Having three children all under the ages of 5 made them rather sensitive to sleep. Kageyama - who used to be a deep sleeper - now woke up easily and fast to be able to check up on the children. Kageyama groaned and looked at Ushijima with tired eyes. Feeling his heart melt at how majestic his Kageyama looked despite having bed hair and looking like she was about to drop to sleep, he pecked his lips and rubbed his back as he spoke.
“Yua had a nightmare that scared her and says there’s an evil doll in her room. I’m going to investigate and get rid of it” he told Kageyama, voice serious to show his daughter that they were taking this seriously and not just dismissing her like other parents did.
He watched as the younger boy perk up and look at their daughter in worry. He lifted his hand and waved her over. Ushijima helped her up and watched as the little girl crawls into her father's lap and cuddle him tightly.
“It’s okay Yua, there's nothing to be afraid of because we’re here. Daddy is going to check and if there is something scary in there he’s going to use his muscles to get rid of them” Kageyama’s voice was quiet due to his sleepiness but his words easily comforted Yua who didn’t look terrified anymore.
Ushijima knew that this was a bad time to think like this, but his mind just couldn’t stop thinking that Kageyama was the most beautiful human being he ever set his eyes on. And that beauty had become brighter when he became a parent. Despite the popular belief that those two were stoic idiots who couldn’t show emotion, they had been crowned by their friends and fans, as the softest parents. They were soft for each other and their children only and it showed in every picture or video or person. Ushijima came to realise that parent Tobio could either be one of two: a soft cutie who made parent like like the easier thing in the world, or sexy Tobio who was such a good parent that it made him look infinitely attractive - which he usually was anyway. Right now Ushijima wasn’t sure what was putting him into a trace, Cute parent Tobio or Sexy parent Tobio. Maybe it was both because not only did Ushijima wasn’t to press kisses all over his face but he always wanted to put their daughter to sleep in her bedroom and take Kageyama to bed.
Wow 17 years old Ushijima, before Kageyama, wouldn’t have understood any of these emotions or thought he was capable of it.
Love is so strange and can change people. Sometimes in a good way and sometimes in a bad way. But for this couple, it was good. He pressed a kiss on Kageyama’s lips before he got out of bed and pulled on his shirt that he discarded since it was too hot.
“Daddy check on Yuki and Yuji. So they are safe from doll too” Yua reminded, referring to her two young brothers, Hiroyuki or Yuki, 2 years old and Yuji, 7 months old.
Ushijima smiled and ruffled her hair in appreciation. “Yes darling, thank you for being such a good big sister. I’ll check on them first then your bedroom and I’ll come back when I’m done”.
“Good. And Daddy?”
“Yes, darling?”
“Stay safe too. Call Papa if need help” she told him, her voice and face turning serious despite her clear upset. When she did that she looked exactly like Kageyama and it was the most adorable thing Ushijima ever saw.
“I will” he promised and pressed a kiss on her forehead and Kageyama’s forehead before he left the room, leaving the door partly open.
Like promised he checked on both his sons to make sure they were okay and still asleep before he walked into Yua’s room. He flipped the light on and diligently looked around. He knew there wasn’t an evil doll in the room but he wasn’t going to lie to his daughter and say he didn’t look. No. That’s not the type of person he was. Even if it meant he was losing some sleep he would do it. He looked under her bed, behind her door, in the toy boxes, the dressers, the wardrobe, her little toy tent. He looked everywhere and as he thought, there was nothing. Turning off both the nightlight and bedroom light he walked back to his bedroom to see Kageyama and Yua lightly talking to each other.
When Yua saw he came back she perked up. “Daddy you were gone for long,” she said as he slid into bed with them.
“Yes, I checked on your brothers and every inch of your bedroom. I didn’t see the doll” he told her as he tucked her hair back into her little ponytail.
“He must have run away when he saw that Daddy was coming to get rid of him. You should thank Daddy for being so big and strong that no one wants to mess with you” Kageyama said allowing himself to indulge in the fantasy a little because she was a child. The two would tell her in a couple of weeks that dolls didn’t come alive in reality when she settled down.
Yua smiled so brightly and launched into Ushijima’s arms. “Thank you, Daddy. I love you” she told him, her face smashed into his chest.
Ushijima chucked as he spoke. “I love you too darling… So, now that we know you are safe are you ready to go back to bed? I will tuck you in and tell you a short story to help you fall back to sleep”
Yua pulled away and looked up at him with her bright blue eyes and pouted. Wow, she really was a mini female version of Kageyama. It was incredible. And most importantly, he could read her eyes almost as well as he could read his husband.
“You want to sleep here tonight don’t you?” Ushijima already knowing the answer. Yua nodded and smiled at him, the same way Kageyama smiled when he was offered something he was too shy to ask for.
“Alright, let’s get into bed”
A sleepy Kageyama helped Yua get into bed whilst Ushijima went into the en-suite bathroom. By the time he was done and back in the room his Princess and his King was already asleep. Ushijima smiled at the sight as he carefully got into bed and threw an arm around his oldest child and the love of his life. Sleep took him only a couple of minutes after he closed his eyes.
(-_-)zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
The rest of the night passed without any problem and the next morning Kageyama and Ushijima were up bright and early - a little later than usual - and were getting everything ready. Ushijima was cooking and Kageyama was feeding Yuji his morning bottle when Kageyama turned to his husband.
“When you were looking in Yua’s room last night I asked her why she thought an evil doll was in her room, I was going to tell you once she fell asleep but I fell asleep before I could” he confessed.
“Hmm, that is okay. What did she say?”
“Yesterday afternoon when we went out for our date and Oikawa-san was looking after the children, Hinata came over and for some reason, he was trying to convince Oikawa that evil doll’s that are alive aren’t scary. Yua walked into the room at the wrong time and she thought them talking about the doll brought it to life and made it come after her” he explained. He was so going to scold Hinata hard when he saw him. A text wouldn’t be as effective.
“I assume that they were talking about the new movie coming out, the one about the evil doll? Because Tendou was hoping to convince his boyfriend to go watch it with him”
“I don’t know what it was about but I’m going to talk to them about having an appropriate conversation around children. Even if they aren’t in the room they should be careful with what they say” Kageyama grumbled as he placed the baby bottle down and wipe Yuji’s mouth with his bib. The baby brown eyes staring at him, to most the baby would look bored or indifferent - but Kageyama was a pro with his children and this was Ushijima’s son, he could tell what his eyes said, and right now Yuji wanted he usual playtime before breakfast because it’s what he’s used too.
“It was just an accident and Oikawa is usually rather good at filtering what he says around the children, Hinata on the other hand not so much but he’s better than before. But yes we should let them know about this incident so they know” Ushijima agreed as he placed Kageyama’s mug of mocha in front of him.
Kageyama stood up from the kitchen island, baby in his arm and his mocha in the other hand. “I’ll tell Hinata tomorrow at practice and I’ll tell Oikawa,” he said and walked out of the kitchen to the living room area.
Practice for the new season had just started. Despite their growing age the two volleyball players still had power left in them. Ushijima was named the best spiker in Japan and won an award for it his skills 4 times in his career and Kageyama had been named the best setter and won awards for 6 consecutive years. After long talks, they had decided that retirement from the official volleyball games wasn't as bad as they thought back when they were young. They had 2 gold Olympic medals each and finished what was probably their last Olympic game with content hearts and maturity helped them cope with the realisation. The only ones left playing in the league were the couple, Hinata - who swore he wasn't going to retire until after Kageyama, Bokuto - who planned on finishing his current contract before retiring and Hoshiumi - who decided he wasn't going to retire before Hinata. It was the 5 of them left, people had come and gone and eventually, they would stop.
But not just yet.
The rest of the players from their generation had retired either because they couldn't play or just decided it was time. The most painful retirement of all was Oikawa’s. After the 2024 Olympics where Japan won gold and Oikawa lost, they all thought that Oikawa would finally come back to Japan but he moved to Canada instead and that was the downfall. Only a year after he moved he got injured. A wrist injury on his dominant playing hand and a dislocated shoulder. Despite surgery and physical therapy, unfortunately, the damage was bad and lead to the conclusion that Oikawa could no longer play volleyball. He went back to Japan a broken man.
It was heartbreaking. It tore Oikawa into pieces and for a long time, they wondered if they lost him for good. They all tried to help him, even Ushijima but it had been hard. Hard to get him to be motivated about anything. But now, with the help of some therapy, he was doing well. He and Iwazumi finally stopped arguing and admitted they loved each other (Kageyama had to lock those two in a room because he was going crazy at the idea of them not admitting their feelings) so now they were getting married in 3 months for a winter wonderland wedding. Oikawa had a job as a manager at very fancy Department store and was manager of the clothing section - which was odd because everyone knew Oikawa’s fashion sense was questionable - and he and Iwazumi were looking to either adopt or get a surrogate after they were married.
It made Kageyama happy to see the older boy happy again. Especially after they finally got talking and fixed all the bad blood between them a couple of months after the 2021 games. They now spoke all the time and saw each other often, either at each other’s houses or to go out.
Deciding that he would text Oikawa after breakfast to say he’ll come by tomorrow after picking up the kids, he placed his mocha down on the side table and placed Yuji down on the floor so he could crawl around and play on the floor until breakfast. Kageyama grabbed the volleyball they kept in the room and placed it on the floor. Immediately Yuji’s attention was captured and he crawled towards the ball to play. Much like their father’s, all three of the children seem to have the connection or passion for the game. Particularly Yua and Yuji, Hiroyuki not as much but that was fine, they wouldn’t pressure him or any of their children to do something they didn’t want to do. But yes their genetics meant they were all interested volleyball and loved watching their fathers and uncles play.
Kageyama drank his mocha silently and watched as Yuji punched the ball with his little fist and dashed forward to keep up with it, babling to himself at times. It was his favourite thing to do after having his milk after waking up. He played with the ball until it was breakfast. Someday he would push the ball away and chase it, somedays he would punch or kick the ball away to chase it and other days he would get Kageyama involved and the setter would softly play with his son. But today Yuji seemed to want to play on his own. Ushijima said that this was his training regime which was why he was so diligent with it.
Not 5 minutes later footsteps were heard coming down the stairs and a little 2-year-old with olive coloured eyes and black hair came into the room rubbing his eyes. Hiroyuki or Yuki was awake. Which was expected as he was usually the 2nd of their children to wake.
“Good morning Yuki, how did you sleep?” Kageyama asked, eyes on his oldest son but he was still aware of where Yuji was. That baby was fast, faster than any of them.
“Good Papa” Yuki said hugging him. Kageyama pulled him in and kissed his cheek.
The little boy then pulled away and trotted over to Yuki and patted his hair soften, telling him hello and went to the kitchen to greet Ushijima. He would either say and watch his papa cook or he would come and cuddle with Kageyama. A couple of minutes later Yuki came back in and walked up to Kageyama. Already knowing what he wanted, he lifted the toddler and they silently cuddled as they watched Yuki play.
A few minutes later Yua came trotting down the stairs, her bed hair being the worst in the family since her hair was so long. Like a good big sister, she went up to Yuji and pressed a kiss on top of his head. “Good morning Yuji,” she said. Yuji only looked up at her and tapped her leg once before turning back to the ball, that was his way of saying good morning. She turned to her papa and hugged his legs. “Good morning papa!”
“Good morning Yua, did you sleep well? No more scary dreams?” He asked as he used his spare arm to bring her up.
“No, it was good because of you and daddy”
“I’m glad to hear that Princess”
Yua flashed her adorable smile and looked over to little Yuki cuddling against his papa’s side, still fighting off the remaining sleep he had (despite having the ability to wake up early, he always found it hard to shake off sleep in the mornings). “Good morning Yuki, did you sleep well?”
Yuki opened his eyes and let her pat his cheek lovingly. “Yuaaa~ good” he mumbled. Yua could only giggle at her brother.
“I going to help daddy with breakfast,” she said happily. She was Ushijima’s number one kitchen helper, she was very proud of that title and seemed to have a deep interest in cooking, Kageyama silently hoped that she wouldn’t take after him when it comes to cooking. It took Kageyama a lot of years to learn how to make a decent meal so now Ushijima didn't have the constant burden to be stuck in the kitchen.
“Okay Princess” letting her down, Kageyama watched as she walked to the kitchen and heard that she launched herself into Ushijima’s arms.
The next 20 minutes were like so, Yuki finally fully woke up and played with Yuji with the volleyball. Kageyama peacefully watched his sons, talking to them. When Ushijima called them over saying breakfast was ready they all settled at the dining table in the kitchen. Onigiri, miso soup and sausages were on the menu; Yuji was served homemade baby food but kept eyeing the sausages with interest. He did that a lot but they decided he wasn’t ready for that sort of food yet. Kageyama alternated between feeling himself and feeding Yuji but apart from him talking with his son, no one really said anything. They weren’t a loud family and had no desire to be, so breakfast was a peaceful affair.
Two fathers and their children who were so like them making the atmosphere feel right.
The decision was to use the same surrogate each time had been easy. They wanted their children to be related somehow which was why they kept her. That and the fact that she had no interest in keeping any of the children, even though they had some of her DNA helped them a lot. But despite the three children having part of her DNA, they weren’t really like her. Yua was a little mini female version of Kageyama, the only thing she might if inherited from the surrogate was that she was more smiley, open with her emotions and was friendly to everyone. Hiroyuki inherited her black hair and a couple of her soft-featured but everyone knew he would only grow up to look more and more look Ushijima. He was less volleyball crazy than his papa and was more cuddly and more of a people’s person but he was still his father's son. Yuji might as well have been cloned because he was so much like Ushijima, apart from his brown eyes and slightly softer feature. He acted like Ushijima when he was a baby according to their family even favour his left hand just like his father. It was amazing.
Despite biologically, 2 of their children belonging to Ushijima and one belonging to Kageyama, they loved their children equally and were their parents. Nothing would ever change that. It’s probably why so many of their friends were envious of their abilities as parents despite being the couple who seemed least likely to know to look after a child. Even Tsukkishima compliment them on their skills - but that was just the one time when they were the first to arrive at Yagamuchim’s birthday party last despite having the most kids.
Kageyama believes that the reason why things seemed to be so easy was that their children were so much like them and it was easy to know what they wanted. Of course, the children had their own personalities and were their own people, have personalities and traits that they didn’t inherit, but having children like themselves helped.
Halfway through breakfast, there was a knock on the door making them all looking in surprised - even Yuji turned to the door in interest and spoke in baby language as he pointed towards the door, he was probably telling them someone was here. It was 8 am on a Sunday, who was it? None of their friends who didn’t have children would ever wake up this early and be at their house.
“Are you expecting a delivery? Or are you expecting someone?” Kageyama asked as he gave their son some food.
“Not at all… I shall get it,” Ushijima said.
He stood up and walked out of the kitchen to the hallway. As he walked up to the door he checked the security camera and was mildly shocked to see Oikawa standing outside. He was used to seeing Oikawa standing outside the door because the ex-setter visited their house so often that it was natural but he wasn't used to seeing him so early on a Sunday morning. He'd never come this early before He opened the down for him.
“Good morning Oikawa”
“Good morning Ushiwaka”
Yes, they were civil these days and could stand to be in the same room as each other.
“Come in”. At the words, Oikawa walked into the house and took off his shoes and replaced it with the slippers. He came to this place so often he even had his own slippers. In fact, there were a few with their own slippers. Hoshiumi, Iwazumi, Sugawara, Tendōu, Semi, Bokuto and Akaashi . Hinata didn't have his own pair because he was never in Japan log enough to need a pair (but he still always complained to them about it). Kageyama and Ushijima moved back to Japan permanently 3 years ago when Yua was one year old and played in the Japan league ever since, their years of playing for foreign teams over as they decided to start a family but Hinata continued playing abroad so he never got the privilege of having his own slippers. Really the ginger boy was like a volleyball, bouncing back and forth between countries and teams, hardly ever staying in one team for longer than a single season. Sugawara had expressed his concerns about such behaviour to Kageyama who didn't really know what to say as Hinata was a grown man who could make his own decisions in life. Sugawara probably wanted him to talk to Hinata as age mates and help Hinata settle down and think more about the longtime future; furthermore, Kageyama also heard from Hinata's little sister Natsu that Hinata's parents were begging for him to settle down and look for someone to spend his life with and maybe even have a family.
Ushijima lead Oikawa to the kitchen and was met with four pairs of eyes watching with interest at who was at the door. When they saw who it was happy voices were heard.
“Uncle Tōru!” Yua shouted in glee.
“Good morning Yua” he shouted back and hugged the little girl. She giggled happily at his cuddles and kiss on the cheek.
He let go of the girl and moved on to Yuki who greeted him a “Morning Toruuu” as he kept on eating his mini sausages.
“Good morning Yuki” he cooed patting the boys chubby cheeks before moving to the youngest of the siblings who was also his precious Godson.
Healing down a little he looked at his Godson and caressed his cheeks. “ Good morning Yuji my little Godson” he giggled happily. As much as he dislikes Ushijima and could probably never really like him, he had to admit the guy had some good genes because Yuji was a gorgeous child and was so well behaved. He never gave Oikawa any issues when babysitting and it was mostly because he had his fathers temperament. When Kageyama and Ushijima asked him and Iwazumi to be God-parents to their son before he was even born Oikawa cried hard and silently prayed that this would be Kageyama’s offspring. When Yuji was born and it was obvious that it was Ushijima’s child he couldn't even find himself able to be mad when he first held the child in his arms.
Yuji looked up at him and lifted his hand to pat his cheek, greeting him happily in his own way.
Oikawa smiled happily and stood back up properly and took a look at the family.“So how are all this fine morning?” He asked as he stood next to Kageyama.
Kageyama considered straight away telling Oikawa about his fuck up but realised he should do that in private, away from the kids. So instead he went with a better answer. “We’re doing well. But what are you doing awake so early? Aren’t Sunday’s your ‘beauty rest days’?” He questioned.
”Yes usually but I had to get up early to do some wedding stuff and meet the wedding planners. I just came to ask if I could hide Iwa-chan’s anniversary present here? I know that he was just waiting for the moment I left the house to go looking for it but I’m not giving it to him until next Saturday” Oikawa announced. It was his an Iwazumi’s 3 year anniversary and previous years his fiancé had managed to find his present before the actual day. He was no leaving it chance this year.
“Yes you can hide it here. But won’t Iwazumi know you’ve left it here when he can’t find it at your place?” Ushijima wondered.
”You have a point but I was hoping it take him a while to look away the house. And besides, even if he knows it’s here he won’t go looking for it” Oikawa said shrugging. Iwazumi respected everyone’s - apart from Oikawa - privacy.
”Uncle Toru?” Yua called up, breaking up the grown ups conversation.
”Yes Yua?”. This girl was to adorable for her own good.
”The scary doll you and Uncle Shouyou were talking about came into my room. It was so scary but daddy scared him away!” She announced. She wanted to tell her uncle so that he could be carful to.
But Oikawa looked extremely confused as he blinked at her. “The doll?”
Kageyama sighed; he might as well talk to his senpai now about his mistake. He gave Yuji’s baby food to Ushijima and dragged Oikawa out of the room by his wrist to the conservatory, far away from them all. His face was det into a frown and glared at his senpai, annoyed and pissed. Oikawa yelped at how Kageyama stared him down and suddenly felt like a child be scolded. “Yesterday when you were babysitting, You and Hinata were talking about that new movies with the dolls. Yua overheard you and had a nightmare about an evil doll in her room” he grumbled, voice filled with anger, he wanted shout but knowing he may be heard by the kids he didn’t.
Oikawa’s face morphemes from a fearful one. To confusion. To understanding. To regret.
“Oh shit really?! I’m so sorry I had no idea! I’m such a bad uncle! Oh no!” He cried hysterically and Kageyama rolled his eyes, remembering his dramatic the older man was.
“Your not a bad uncle. Just be careful okay? Kids can believe anything so next time filter your words out or just don’t say anything. Next time keep conversation to an appropriate level. I know you didn’t bring it up so it’s not really your fault but you know how that Boke is. He says anything so you need to know better ”. Kageyama was beginning to worry that Hinata would end being more vulgar then Tanaka or Nishinoya or Atsumu. Even those three had a children friendly filters.
”Tobio I’m sorry! You trusted me and I let you down!”. Oikawa threw his arms around Kageyama and the younger boy huffed. If Oikawa and Iwazumi ended of having a surrogate, he hoped the child did not inherit Oikawa’s dramatics.
”It’s fine. No real harm seems to have been done. Just apologies to Yua and assure her no doll is coming for her okay?” He knew that Oikawa just made an innocent mistake and even though he was annoyed, he wasn’t going to hold it against the older boy because he was a good uncle who looked after the child’s well. Oikawa nodded in his arms before pulling away and running into the kitchen to tell Yua how sorry he was for what he did and beg for forgiveness. The little girl didn’t understand why her uncle was on his knees being dramatic as ever but still took his apologies and patted his head softly to calm him own.
After everything had been sorted out, Oikawa gave them this large box housing Iwazumi’s gift and Ushijima hid it in their closet. The ex - setter stayed for a quick breakfast before rushing off to meet his wedding planners.
With that done the family continued with their day. Whilst Kageyama washed the dishes after breakfast, Ushijima took the kids to the play room, where Kageyama joined them once he was done. They played doctors, and building games during this play session before they all got ready to go out to the park and play some more. Ushijima took care of the two younger boys whilst Kageyama got himself and Yua ready, doing the girls hair in two braids (Miwa taught him how to do them).
The park was only 20 minute walk away so they took advantage of the lovely weather, the neighbours waving at them when they passed each other. Once at the park, they fed the ducks, the kids played in the playground and played family volleyball. Yua being decent setter for Ushijima whilst Yuki did his best to spike Kageyama’s sets. Yuji played as the libro for both teams and was fascinated at how the high the ball could go in the air.
With playing over, they had lunch that Ushijima and Kageyama had packed and ate at the park, enjoying their family time.
The walk back home knocked Yuji and Yuki out completely, with Yuji falling asleep as soon they put him in the pram. Yuki was carried back by Ushijima and fell asleep in his daddy’s arms, all that playing have tired him out. Once home they put the boys down for their nap and the parents took this opportunity to have some alone time with their oldest daughter.
They thought it was important they paid attention to all their children but due to Yuki and Yuji being young, they had to use more time on making sure they were safe. Yua never minded that her parents had to spend a little more time her brothers because she knew her parents loved her and would always be there. She was such a good sister and they always tried their best to spend time with her when her brothers were asleep.
The couple and their daughter played hair dressers during this time (because aunt Miwa was a hairdresser and it was a cool job). As they played Yua chatted to them about everything and anything as she pretended to straighten Ushijima’s hair.
By the time the boys and woken up from their nap, Ushijima’s hair was half straight, half in rollers. Kageyama’s hair had a bunch of elastic bands in his hair that hurt but the smile on Yua’s face meant everything. They took a group selfie and send it Miwa who congratulated her niece for her hard work.
The rest of the days was like any other Sunday. The family just spending time with each other. They watched some puppet show that Yuji was fascinated by, Kageyama cooked dinner of pork katsu curry with frozen yogurt for desert. The family had a peaceful dinner before clearing up and putting on a family friendly movie, to which put Yuji and Yuki to sleep before the movie was finished which made sense since their bedtime was coming up. Kageyama took the two boys to bed whilst Ushijima continued to watch the princess fairy save the Prince.
With the movie over, Kageyama helped Yua take her evening bath before the two parents lead her to her room.
”Papa are you sure evil doll monster not come back?” Yua asked as Kageyama finished reading the book she picked out. She had already been tucked into bed and was feeling sleepy before her bedtime story.
Kageyama felt his irritation towards Hinata go up as this was first and foremost his fault but he pushed the anger aside as he smiled at his daughter. “Yes I’m sure. He ran away remember? Because daddy is big and strong”.
”But what if he comes back when you gone?” She asked worried.
”He won’t Yua. Remember Uncle Toru said he won’t come back ever again. But if he does, come to our room okay? We’ll protect you” Ushjima told her from his position near her dresser as he began to pick out Yua’s clothes for the next day.
”Okay” she agreed hesitantly. The two men kissed their daughter good night and turned off her light, hoping they had done enough to make her still through the night.
As soon as they were downstairs and finally alone, Ushijima grasped Kageyama’s waist and brought him close, kissing his cheek. As much as he loved his children with all his heart, he did secretly love the moment they all settled down into bed as it was the time he and Kageyama could be like a married couple again and not just parents. Kageyama smiled as he stood their in his husbands embrace and clung to him. God he loved him.
“Toshi” he mummbled.
“Yes?”
”I’m going to kill that boke Hinata” he announced causing Ushijima to chucked a little and kiss him sweetly.
“My love you can’t. The kids and I cannot live without you if you end up in prison for his murder”
“Well I need to punish him somehow. Shouting at him won’t be enough” he pouted. He remembered how scared Yua was in his arms last night and he hated seeing that.
”You will and I shall help you. But first… this” Ushijima dipped his head and brought his lips to Kageyama. This was their first proper kiss of the entire day since they tried to kiss any and all PDA to a minimum around the children. Kageyama melted into the kiss and kissed his husband bag with vigour, so deeply in love with that man, all thoughts going out of the window.
“I love you” Kageyama whispered against Ushijima’s lips as his fingers griped the mans shirt.
“I love you too” Ushijima whispered back.
Later that night when the couple lay peacefully in bed in each other’s arms, talking casually, their time was interrupted but Yua bursting into the room, crying about how she had a bad dream about the doll.
The couple shared a look that clearly said Kageyama was going to get revenge on Hinata before calming the crying girl and letting her sleep in their bed.
