“You know he just wants to get in your pants, right?” Jason growled as they left the picnic that had been interrupted by sudden heavy rain.
Marinette rolled her eyes at him and held up a hand to shield herself from the gusts of wind that blew the raindrops directly into her face.
“Excuse me? You know Luka and I are just friends!”
Jason scoffed. “And yet, you know exactly who I’m talking about.”
She pursed her lips, but Jason continued.
“Just sayin’ I’m seeing a lot of looks that are a hell of a lot more than just ‘friendly’” he mocked, using air quotes.
Marinette sputtered. “And are any of those looks coming from me?!”
“No,” he conceded with a scowl.
“Then what the hell are you mad at me for?!”
Jason rolled his eyes. “Because you’re so damn naive! You just smile and – and take it when he's flirting with you and making innuendos because heaven forbid you step on a few toes by telling him to back the fuck off!” he sneered.
He was walking so fast that Marinette had to skip every so often to be able to keep up with him.
“He's one of my friends! And he’s friends with my other friends! I can’t just –“
“What? Offend him?” He asked with an exaggerated eyeroll. “If they're as good friends as you like to pretend, they won’t judge you for saying no! Stop being so damn afraid of rocking the boat!”
“I’m not afraid of rocking the boat! I just don’t want to cause a scene! And I don’t want to make people have to choose sides in case it turns into an argument!” Marinette objected and grabbed his arm to pull him with her under a nearby tree for shelter.
Jason looked at her incredulously. “THAT’S THE SAME DAMN THING!”
“It’s not the same thing!”
“He’s flirting with you even though I’m in the same damn room! He knows you have a boyfriend and even though I’m right there, he still flirts with you!” Jason exploded.
“He doesn’t flirt with me! He’s the same with all the others!”
He threw his hands out in exasperation. “The hell he is! And I don’t give a shit about the others!”
“Well, I do!” she shouted.
“The only one I care about is you!” he exclaimed.
She huffed and crossed her arms. “But this is just who I am as a person! I care about a lot of people!”
“I know! And I love that about you!” he yelled.
“What?”
“I love that we’re different like that! Will you marry me?” he shouted, still somewhat angrily.
Marinette blinked. “What?! We’re in the middle of an argument!”
“I know!” he barked. “I did that on purpose!”
Her eyes widened and she slapped his chest. “What the hell? Why would you do that?!”
“Because I’m an asshole!”
She scoffed, but didn’t deny it.
“I'm an asshole and I wanted to remind you of how much of a jerk I can be so that if you say yes, you’ll do it with your eyes open! I’m as much of a romantic as anyone –“
Understatement. He was the most romantic person she had ever even met.
“- but this is too damn important for any kind of flowery words. I’m not gonna try to convince you or talk you into it, because whether you say yes or no, it should be your choice completely. And when I’m being as big of a jackass as I am right now, no one can blame you for saying no. Including myself,” he ranted. “So, I’m putting all my cards on the table here because, I love you and I wanna marry you.”
“Okay,” she breathed.
“Come again?” he asked, his tone tinged with disbelief.
She chuckled a bit wetly. “Yes, I’ll marry you, you absolute ass.”
She shook her head fondly at the idiot she was planning on spending the rest of her life with. The one who loved her so much that he was willing to throw it all away just for the sake of honesty.
His face split into the widest grin she had possibly ever seen from him.
“Really?” he asked, like a kid not quite believing that Santa had left two presents in his stocking.
“Yes! Now kiss me, you idiot!”
He easily gave in to her demand, but kept the kiss short.
“Wait! I need to give you this!”
He went down on one knee in front of her, dipping his pants directly into a puddle of water, and fished a small box out of his pocket.
He opened it and held it out to her, proudly.
Marinette sucked in a breath.
Inside the box was possibly the ugliest, clunkiest, tackiest piece of jewellery she had ever seen.
She tried hard not to let her horror or disappointment show. She might be a fashion designer, but that didn’t mean she was vain. If Jason had picked that thing out for her, she was gonna wear it.
She reached for it slowly, trying to keep her hands from shaking and Jason let out a snort.
“Don’t worry, I’m just messing with ya,”
He put his hand in his pocket and pulled out a simple ring in rose gold with a pink stone.
Marinette laughed. “You ass!”
She pulled him up and kissed him again as he easily slid the ring onto her finger.
How he had gotten her exact ring size, she didn’t know.
It was probably a bat-thing.
“You know that when everyone asks how you proposed, I’m going to let you do the talking, right?”
He chuckled. “Yeah, okay.”
“Including my mother.”
“Shit.”
