Work Text:

Hoseok laughs, his smile softening the hardened edges of this smothering summer afternoon.

He slides closer to Yoongi on the couch, phone lighting up in his hand. The background shows a picture of them both at one of the concerts they went to back during spring. Yoongi's own is a picture of the last barbeque night they spent together.

"I think I could liquify on this couch." Hoseok drawls, letting himself slump against his side until Yoongi falls against the couch's arm, gently smiling, Hoseok sticking to his body, eyes half closed.

"You're hot." Yoongi complains, and his best friend hums.

"I know."

"No, I mean, you're lava on my skin."

Hoseok huffs, but doesn't move and he accepts his fate.

Years of being friend with Jung Hoseok means dying of heat during the summer but having a personal blanket at all times during winter. He loves when he puts his hand in his own pocket, holding it with his own. Right now, though, isn't as marvelous.

They're on break from uni, spending most of their days watching movies and listening to music while talking, bearing the scorching weather.  Hoseok basically lives at his place. His parents are away for a couple's retreat, which means they don't sleep until the sun rises and mostly eat noodles and sorbets.

He likes it, like spending as much time with his best friend as possible.

He extends his arm in the air, staring at his hand, the pearly white of his knuckles.

Hoseok mimics him, honeyed skin grazing his.

"Where do you wanna be, a few years from now?" His friend asks, and Yoongi thinks for a while, focusing on the reassuring weight on his body.

"I don't know. I just want to be happy I think." He clears his throat. "You?"

Hoseok intertwines their fingers, moving around him, bringing their linked hands over Yoongi's chest.

"Just being by your side would be nice." He tells him, looking up.

Their eyes meet and Yoongi's breathing is short, heart skipping too many beats.

Yoongi is a communication enthusiast, likes sharing his thoughts, having nothing left unsaid, but what he feels for Hoseok is different. He's not sure how to navigate these confusing feelings.

"Is it weird, with us being guys and all?" Hoseok asks, and Yoongi wants to cradle him, to tell him he doesn't know if it is, but that he wants the same thing, wants to keep him close, always closer.

"When it comes to you, never." He replies, voice as casual as he can muster.

Yoongi licks his lips. He really hates keeping secrets. He tries something.

"Won't it be hard to have me all the time when you get a girlfriend though?"

Hoseok huffs, not speaking up for a while, Yoongi's heart hammering in his chest.

"It would be hard for a girl to be more awesome than you, though. I don't see how one could keep me away from you."

Yoongi flinches, feels his cheeks warming up, praying for his friend not to look up.

"You think highly of me." Yoongi laughs, bringing Hoseok closer, fingers threading his hair.

"Don't you?" He asks, amused, and Yoongi smiles to himself, lopsided and fond.

"I don't think anyone else could make me feel the way you make me feel." He tells him, careful, fingers grazing his nape.

Hoseok hums, craning his head back into the touch, eyes fluttering close.

"It would be simpler if I could marry you." He tells him in a very soft voice, barely above a whisper, Yoongi's fingers faltering on his skin.

Maybe Yoongi has forgotten how to breathe, chest constricting, gut punched.

"Do you think this?" He asks, feeling anxious and faint.

Hoseok turns around, looking cautious.

"Don't you?"

Yoongi's features soften, affection overwhelming him.

"A life with you sounds heavenly."

Hoseok laughs, bringing his forehead against his.

"It's just...confusing...confusing and scary. I don't know how to navigate this. I mean, I like girls, and then I also can't envision a life without you."

Yoongi's hand finds his nape.

"I'm not sure we should have it all figured out." He gently whispers.

"It's okay though. You've got me, we've got each other." Hoseok says, breaking into a bright grin.

A silence stretches between them.

"You know, I mean it when I say I'd spend my life with you. Your gender doesn't matter."

Hoseok's breathing is shaky.

"Is it really that simple?"

"Should be." Yoongi grazes his cheek with his lips. "Seok-ah." He murmurs.

Hoseok hums.

"Should I want to kiss my best friend?"

He feels him shiver.

"Only if he wants to."

Yoongi takes a breath.

"Do you?"

He sees Hoseok biting a smile back, looking away.

"May have thought about it once or twice." He answers, trying to look unaffected, and Yoongi laughs, poking him under the ribs.

"An hour, okay, once or twice an hour."

They're both grinning at each other, and, Yoongi be damned, he'd take on the whole world for him.

He's about to make a snarky comment when the look Hoseok gives him is so tender it makes any taunt die on his lips.

Yoong gently cups Hoseok's cheek.

"This is for a lifetime with you, as your best friend and whatever you want me to be." He carefully tells him, closing the space between them.

Hoseok lips are soft, delicate against his. They kiss, cautious, Yoongi's hands running down his friend's nape and back, the both of them grinning into each other.

They snuggle closer, Hoseok bringing his arms tightly around Yoongi, pressing kisses to his temples, his nose, his cheeks, back down to his lips, pecking at them, eyes creased with pleasure.

"Does this mean I can steal your jumpers?" He asks him, and Yoongi huffs.

"You've always stolen them."

Hoseok laughs, nuzzling Yoongi's neck.

"I just want to be enabled."

Yoongi kisses him again, feeling more at peace than he's felt in eons.

"Fine. I just don't want all of them to mysteriously disappear."

His best friend smiles warmly, the sun to his moon, kissing him deeper ; he lets himself melt into the kiss.

"Seok-ah." He calls him, pushing hair away from his forehead.

He hums.

"Would you like to go out tonight?"

Hoseok tickles his calf with his foot.

"Is this a date?"

Yoongi smiles, safely tucked against him.

"Yeah."

"Then I'm buying flowers. Sleepover afterwards?"

Yoongi grins.

"Please don't hog me, it's hot enough already today."

Hoseok groans, kissing Yoongi's cheek.

"I can't make this kind of promise."

Yoongi kisses him.

It's okay, as long as they're together.
