Chapter 1: TWATB #1

Chapter Text

The boy looked at the blood in his hands, to be precise, the blood of three other people. The head of the family, his wife and their firstborn whom he had always looked up to. "Hyung," he caressed the older boy's face with his crimson hands smearing blood on the pale cheeks, "Wake up, please. I'm so sorry. It's my fault, I'll listen to you well, I promise."

Tears slipped down his cheeks and fell on the floor mixing with the crimson liquid which flowed from the older boy's head. Next to his body were laid other two bodies. The father's which had several deep gashes on his neck and abdomen and his wife's which had one stab wound on the chest and a deep one on the neck.

Seeing that he could no longer do anything, the little boy stood up wiping the tears off his cheeks painting his cheeks crimson red. He locked the windows and the front and back door before walking up to the bathroom.

Turning on the shower, he washed himself from any blood and changed into new clothes. The little boy walked down to the kitchen and searched for the bottle of gasoline which was kept out of his reach.

He stared at the bottle and threw his tennis ball at it which made it tumble and fall. Once it was at his reach, the boy unscrewed the cap before pouring it on his dirty pile of clothes and around the living room where the bodies were.

He then lit up a match stick and stared at the flickering flame. Like a moth to a light, the boy stared at it before throwing it onto the trail of gasoline he had created. The entire place quickly caught on fire but gave enough time for the boy to run away.

Once the fire began to spread, the frightened neighbours gathered around and tried to put out the fire while waiting for the fire service.

Meanwhile, the boy who was standing next to the pole smirked, "I warned him, it's not my fault."

_____

It was the the small city of Busan but the times were not the best to be alive. There were murders all around them but no one was yet to be suspected. It was started when a woman, a prostitute was found dead. Her naked body had been brutally beaten up and tortured displayed for everyone to see and her face almost unidentifiable.

The law enforcement had only gotten so far as to discover the girl's time of death and her parents but nothing further. Nothing led them further. The killer was said to be extremely intelligent and that he could be someone who was either in school or some job since the murders mostly took place at the weekends.

But was it the same person? The police had only one way of identifying it- a neatly carved Sagittarius sign on the skin of the victim on the back. The sign was always found neatly carved into the skin, so neat that the detectives concluded that it must be someone in a medical profession. The murders were brutal that they made everyone's skin crawl in fear and disgust.

"Who do you think could be behind all this?" Oh Sehun asked as he kicked the stone in front of him watching it roll away. Kim Junmyeon shrugged his shoulders, "Could be anyone," the boy had a goofy smile as he turned to their other friend, "It could be Chanyeol, it could be you."

"Or you," said Chanyeol with a huff and pushed back the glasses on his nose and Sehun too joined the boy before glaring at the eldest, "You're a meanie, Jun!"

Park Chanyeol, Oh Sehun and Kim Junmyeon were the kids from the same neighbourhood. Sehun and Junmyeon were seniors in college while Chanyeol was a junior. The three were hell-bent on contributing to the law enforcement to prevent such hideous acts to a fellow human.

Sehun and Junmyeon were the extremely loud extroverts who, you could say, had adopted Chanyeol, an introverted junior as their friend when they stood up to his bullies and chased them away. No one dared to mess with him again since he was friends with the seniors.

"Oh, please," the eldest, Junmyeon dramatically rolled his eyes, "as if you're a nice person. Shut up, Oh!"

"Shut up, Kim!"

"Can you two shut up?"

The two seniors turned to the youngest before looking at each other, "He is really quiet but when he opens his mouth, it's for something rude." Sehun nodded at the other while the junior flashed a sheepish smile, "You two are too loud for me."

"Oh, that's alright. You'll get used to it!"

"It's been two years, Hun. If anything, you're only annoying him more."

Sehun held his chest, "Wow, I'm hurt."

The trio reached their university and dispersed to their respective classes. Just like any other day, Chanyeol had his head resting on his folded arms on the desk while his other hand mindlessly scribbled and doodled in the notebook.

No words out of his professor's lips reached his ears and the professors too never bothered him since he was always considered the weird kid of the class. Despite the boy never even lifting his head to look at the professors, he managed to maintain his high score perfectly.

Park Chanyeol was a lonely kid. He had no parents and the boy only grew up in foster care, one after another. No one made an effort to talk to him and neither did he.

Just like that, the day was over and the three boys were walking back home. "Can we hang out at the bar tomorrow? It's a weekend and being home feels so boring." Sehun pouted. Junmyeon nodded, "I'm in," he then turned to younger, "Yeol?"

"Yeah, I guess."

______

Sehun was the first to be dropped home and Junmyeon continued walking with Chanyeol. The junior was the last one since his house was a little further from the other two. "Bye, Yeol," the elder waved at the younger who returned it with a smile, "Bye Hyung."

But he never knew how much effort was put behind that small smile on his young friend's face.

It was a little past 7 when Junmyeon's aunt finally was done making dinner. Junmyeon had no parents either since they passed away in an accident when he was still young. He did not remember much about their death and the male too tried not to remember anything.

"You made pork, Mom?" The lady nodded with a gentle smile. She and her husband had no children thus Junmyeon was no less their own child. "Chanyeol would have eaten it all if he were here," said the boy remembering how his friend had finished a whole plate of pork last time the three friends hung out.

"Why don't you go give him some? Father may not be home for dinner since he said he has a business dinner."

"I can?" his eyes sparkled as the lady nodded again as confirmation. "Okay, then. I'll be right back, Mom," said the teen before rushing to his friend's house with some home-cooked pork in the Tupperware.

He had to wait a few seconds until the door opened revealing his friend's foster mother. Chanyeol was a little child when he had gone missing and when they had found him, the parents were no longer alive to see their son come back.

"Who are you?" Junmyeon almost wanted to throw up at the strong scent of cigarettes in the air. "Is Chanyeol home? I'm his friend, Ma'am."

"He's not. That kid disappears somewhere every weekend. So if you find him, send him home, will you?"

She did not wait for a reply as she slammed the door on his face. "Rude!" he muttered under his breath before walking away. But something the lady said was on his mind. Where did his friend go during the weekends or why he had gone alone since he was sure Chanyeol had no other friends besides him and Sehun.

Returning to his house, he dropped off the Tupperware before getting on his bike making up an excuse to his mother before cycling away hoping to run into his friend.

A few minutes later, he found himself in a path whose sides were nothing but thick woods and nothing but tall pine trees were visible. He came to a sudden stop when he heard a muffled yet a rather loud scream.

Junmyeon narrowed his eyes at the woods hoping he heard it wrong. But the second time he heard it, it sounded louder and closer. He got off his bike with furrowed brows.

His face had gone pale as a chill went down his spine. The short raven head took a deep breath before walking over to the woods fingers tightly clutching the handlebars of his bike.

He turned his head to the side when he heard a rustle in the bushes but it turned out to be just a small frog. Junmyeon leaned his bike against one of the trees as he continued on his careful steps further into the woods.

"Anyone here?" he cried out despite shaking in fear. "Yeol-ah? Is it you?" before he could say something further, the sound of frantic footsteps resonated in his ear. But he could see no one or nothing.

Turning back, he saw that the exit was getting more and more further away from him. A part of him wanted to go back but another wanted to see if someone needed his help. He kept running forward. Before he could repeat his words, someone held him by his shoulders, "Run away! He's going to kill us!" the man trembled.

Junmyeon froze at the sight of the man. Since it was a small neighbourhood, everyone knew each other and this was none other than the kind man who ran a stationery shop near their university. His face was bloodied and his body had several cuts. The shirt had turned to a deep shade of crimson red which was painted by the fresh wounds on his body.

"---o you hear me?" the boy snapped back to reality as the man shook him by his shoulders.

"But who?" the question left unanswered as the man pulled the boy with him before taking off. They had been running for a few minutes when Junmyeon tripped over a root and fell. A cry of pain left his lips as he held his sprained ankle.

"We need to run!"

Junmyeon bit his teeth and nodded as he stood up before taking off with the man. His ankle felt as if it was on fire but the man looked too frightened and it showed him that whoever that was chasing them was definitely too dangerous for them to halt on their steps.

A smile of hope found its way onto the younger's lips. He could see his bike near the tree just as he had left it and the path he had rid on also came into view with every step. When he turned to look at the man, the boy saw a butcher's knife fly through the air and lodge itself at the back of the man's head killing off the man.

The terrified student fell on the ground and moved away from the course as his body shook in fear and eyes wide as saucers. The shrewd night breeze brushed against his red face making him shiver. The eyes of the corpse were still open staring up at him. Salty tears cascaded down his face eyes never leaving the corpse.

He had completely frozen in his spot until he heard the sound of a breaking twig. His frightened eyes slowly averted to look in the direction. Junmyeon got on to his feet once he saw the male.

"Oh, my God! Chanyeol! We need to get out of here," his voice faded in the end as he looked at his friend. It was not his quiet dorky friend, it was someone else, someone with an expression so twisted and crooked.

His shirt and face had splatters of blood on them. Junmyeon watched as Chanyeol take off his glasses to wipe away the drops of blood blocking his vision before wearing them back.

"Yeol," Junmyeon gently called out backing up as he did, "Let's go home." But his friend smirked back at him before leaning over the body to get back the knife, "No, I'm in the mood for some hunting," said the younger nearing his frozen friend, "I'll give you a head start like I did for him or you make a deal with the devil. I'm being generous since you are my friend, Jun Hyung."

He definitely was not ready to die anytime soon, "Deal with the devil?" Chanyeol laughed his voice sending shivers down the other male's spine, "Promise to keep your mouth shut till the day you die and erase my traces. If you fail to do so, you know what they say.

"Dead men tell no tales." He husked out in his ear with a smirk playing on his lips.

Junmyeon nodded his head as fast as he could agreeing to whatever his friend said. "Now, follow me. I'll show you how to get away with a murder."

That was the night which changed Junmyeon forever. That was the night he shook hands with the devil.
