Work Text:

I wake up and sigh. Another day in my terrible life. I get up and go to the mirror. My messy bed unkempt self started back. I could shower but didn’t feel like it, especially since this would be such a boring day. So instead I threw on my lazy outfit: a my chemical romance tee, red suspenders, a black skirt with chains, fishnet stockings and doc martens. I dashed on some quick eyeliner and threw my (y/hc) hair into a messy bun. I grab my backpack and walk down the stairs in a huff.

I hope my mom’s still asleep in her drug stupor, but no luck. I could hear her talking and she had clearly lit another cigarette. I enter the kitchen. “Mom please don’t smoke in the house,” I called out as I grabbed a protein shake from the fridge. I walked into the living room to make sure she put it out.

She was standing by the couch with a backpack. “I sold you,”

I just stared at her. “Excuse me?”

“I sold you. For a hefty sum too. At least you ended up good for something in the end,” she snorted and went back to fidgeting with her cigarette.

My world spun. I was sold? You couldn’t do that legally. Was I in like what, human trafficking now? I was a few seconds away from hyperventilating. “Who did you sell me too?”

“Me” a voice rang out behind me and I whirled around to see Marko Bones, in the flesh.

My world reversed spinning. “Marko??”

“Oh excellent, you two already know each other” my mom threw out there and I turned to give her a dirty eye. She’d still sold me.

“But yes, I am your legal guardian now,” they towered over me and I struggled to find a place to look without craning my head up.

“I’m literally older than you,” I muttered

“Doesn’t matter,” his grin was wide and infectious. “C’mon. Let's go, we have a flight to catch,” he tugged me out the door by my suspenders and I barely snagged my backpack from my mom's hand in time.
. . .
I’d been silent the entire way to the airport, and through boarding as well. It was like I was in a haze. I knew that me and my mom didn't get along, but I never thought she’d sell me. Was I really just that to her? A means to an end? Tears welled in my eyes and I angrily dashed them away. I couldn't afford to ruin my eye makeup.

“Hey, it’s alright. I mainly bought you to get you out of there,” a shoulder nudges me and I look back up at Marko. And then promptly past xem because- “Are we in first class?”

“Oh no no no,” they leaned back and laughed before sobering again. “We’re in a private jet. Small but important distinction.”

“Oh okay, cool” I looked around, so lost.

He immediately took notice. “Here,” he grabbed a chilled glass of apple cider from a tray. “Take this,” my hands shook a little grabbing it.

“It’s good. I’m gonna pilot the plane for a bit, so just chill out, there’s also a fully stocked bathroom, you can clean up or do whatever. Any food you want, we’ll probably have it. When we land, we’ll be going immediately to my concert. You’re in good hands,” they looked at me earnestly before leaving.

I sat in shock before going to the bathroom like they’d suggested. I did end up taking a shower, and wrapped myself up in a plush towel afterwards. I put on the same clothes and walked out to face the rest of the plane ride.

. . .

We landed in New York 3 hours later. It actually hadn’t been bad, we’d gotten to chat. He was really cool and down to earth.i hated to admit it, but way better than my real mom.

“Okay, I’ll see you soon, you’re gonna be in the pit for the show, stay safe,” Marko clapped hand to my shoulder and disappeared backstage. It took a second before I realized I was exactly where I’d wanted to be for so long. In New York, about to see a rocking concert in the pit. Hello? This was awesome. (y/n) smiled and set off among the stands.

2 hours and a lot of money and merch later, the concert was in full swing. We were all swaying and jumping, lights going everywhere, the distinct smell of weed in the air. I stared up at Marko and it hit me that that was my legal guardian.

“Wait wait, guys I have something to tell you, shhh shhh” the crowd got a little quieter and xe smiled. “I made a rash decision last night, but I think it was a good one. I want to welcome someone to the family, someone you’re going to get to know very well soon,” he started talking and my heart dropped. Was this about me?

“I’d like everyone to meet. . .” whispers rippled across the stadium and I heard someone say “A partner??”

“My child!” they beamed and a spotlight shined down on me. I was nearly blined. “Come on up y/n !!” cheers thundered as I walked up on jello legs and was clasped into a big hug.

I didn’t know a lot. But this was better than yesterday, I thought, and hugged my new parent and friend back just as hard.
