Chapter Text

There is no way this can go wrong.

That’s what Arya thinks as she lays on her bed.

She is sure nothing will go wrong.

She’s planned this.

She’s been getting ready for this for years.

There is no way it can go wrong.

He seems ready as well.

His eyes are like sapphires burned with fire, reflecting colours she didn’t even think were possible.

It can’t go wrong.

They exchange painfully small talk.

It can’t go wrong.

She feels his hands on her bare skin.

It can’t go wrong.

Until it does.

Arya is the first to notice the figure; it had glimmered into existence, a white shine of fog-like radiance which soon solidifies in a two-legged, two-armed creature with long hair that brushes against the base of their spine. And yet, their figure looks… deformed. More humanoid than human.

It gets more defined. Kyle doesn’t seem to notice. He’s facing away from the door.

“What the…”, she whispers, wide eyed. “Who the fuck are you-”.

It doesn’t answer.

It just… stares at her, with red pupils encased in black orbs lodged into their skull, unmoving. Stoic.

“What’s wrong?”, Kyle asks. There is genuine concern in his voice. “Babe, what’s-”.

“Nothing”, Arya lies, trying to divert her gaze from the otherworldly apparition. “Can… can we just…?”.

The man clears his throat. “R-Right”.

The woman tries to focus on his eyes, but the white glimmer won’t abandon her peripheral vision. It stares at her with eyes of fire, its face unreadable… but it’s somehow getting more… defined, now. It looks… agile. Too thin to be human.

Arya blinks. It doesn’t go away. She takes deep breath, now almost unaware of Kyle’s movements, her attention completely drawn to the white apparition.

It must be an hallucination, she tells herself. God, I knew I shouldn’t have-.

It moves, and Arya flinches in surprise asit turns its head and looks around her dusty old bedroom in her dusty old apartment. It peeks at the night-light plugged into the wall, at the dusty sketchbook on her desk, at the pile of clothes on the floor.

“Okay, listen”. Kyle’s voice draws her attention to his bearded face. “It’s clear as day that you’re not focused. What’s on your mind?”.

“It’s nothing”, she lies again, biting her lower lip. “R-Really, it’s nothing, let’s just-”.

The figure then raises its right hand, pointing it towards her.

You. With me. Now.

Its voice is loud and clear.

Arya’s ears start to ring.

But then, Kyle turns around.

Wide-eyed.

Shouts. “WHO THE FUCK IS-!”.

And then, the world goes white.

Pain splits Arya’s head as she tries to hold onto something – anything, but it’s useless.

She screams.

The light washes her… her form away, in an ocean of photons, stripping her of her skin, her muscles, her bones, her everything.

And then, her echo fading in the void, she feels herself plummeting through the dark.

But not for long.
