Work Text:
Flowers.
Someone said to him that using flowers is the best way to deliver a message.
There are more than forty five kinds of flowers which can deliver a message based on the symbolism and the meaning behind those flowers itself. Some people harbor such complicated feelings that are kinda hard to confess to their significant other. However, giving flowers to their dearest person will never fail to decipher the real feeling behind the message itself.
Those bright azure eyes looking at the flower shop in front of him. If he remembers correctly, it seems those flower shops didn't exist back in his childhood. This is his first arrival after leaving his hometown for nearly twenty years. There are so many changes that has happened in this town. That includes the new flower shop that stood right by his house.
"Azure flower shop?" Kevin muttered the shop's name as he frowned a little. Elysia said to him that the flower shop had already opened two years ago. Looking at how clean that place is, as well as the many fresh flowers being displayed in front of it, Kevin can tell that the owner of the shop has done a great job in maintaining their shop.
After a few moments of silence, Kevin finally decided to walk slowly to the shop and entered carefully. His eyes looking at some beautiful flowers in his surroundings as his nose is welcomed with a nice smell from those flowers itself.
"Excuse me?"
Kevin tried to search for the owner as he hestitanly walked deeper to the shop. There is no customer other than him at the moment. After some time examining his surroundings, he finally caught a long haired figure not far from where he stood right then. He couldn't see clearly what the face of the shop owner looked like since he could only see their back.
But looking at those beautiful long grey locks of hair makes Kevin think that the owner of this shop seems like a beautiful lady.
"Umm, excuse me. Are you the shop owner?" Kevin needed confirmation as he approached the long haired figure. In a split second, the long haired figure finally turned to Kevin and their eyes finally met for the first time. Kevin widened his eyes,he couldn't believe that the long haired figure wasn't a lady.
But a man. A very beautiful man.
He is wearing a black shirt with black pants. He has a decent height and is nearly as tall as Kevin himself. Those fuchsia eyes looked so surprised seeing Kevin standing in front of him. The time seemed to stop for a few moments as the long haired male finally muttered some words.
"A-Are you… Kevin Kaslana?"
"Oh, you know me?" Kevin is rather surprised hearing his name being said by the long haired male. The male suddenly covered his mouth as he tried to keep his composure, hiding his flustered face. Kevin began to frown seeing how nervous the man in front of him was. They had never met before but Kevin felt like his face was just rather familiar to him.
As if he has seen it somewhere before. But where exactly?
"P-Pardon my manners." Such a soft voice. The long haired man coughed a little as he finally stopped covering his half bottom face and offered a soft smile. "I… I just know your name because you are quite popular here."
"Oh yeah?" Those reasons made the florist more suspicious in Kevin's eyes. "But, the last time I lived here was twenty years ago when I still in my childhood-"
"Uhh… I just know you from other people's stories." The long haired male suddenly interrupted as he didn't want Kevin to become more suspicious of him. "Well, to answer your very first question. Yes, I'm the shop owner. My name is SU. Nice to meet you, Kevin."
"SU…" muttered Kevin as he looked at how SU offered his hand to shake hands with him. The white haired male finally smiled, accepting that hand shake invitation. Not aware of how flustered and even more nervous SU had become.
"Nice to meet you too, SU. I like your shop. Looks so nice."
"Thank you, Kevin."
They broke their handshake as SU humbly asked about Kevin's purpose for visiting the shop. "So, how can I help you, Kevin? Is there anything you need here?"
"About that…" Kevin crossed his arms, thinking for a few moments. "Yeah, a friend of mine said that I should give a flower to someone special."
"Someone special?" SU suddenly became curious. Kevin began to rub his back hair nervously.
"It's actually my girlfriend."
"Oh, I see…" That straight forward answer made the long haired man look rather sad for a moment. Of course, Kevin wasn’t aware of it.
"My friend said that I need to give her some flowers. And my friend recommended your flower shop to me. She said that you have the best flowers in this town."
"I feel flattered with that compliment. Thank you." SU chuckled lightly as he finally signaled Kevin to follow him. "So, do you already have in mind what kind of flower you want to give to her?"
"Actually… I don't know much about flowers. Maybe roses or something? I mostly see that flower on Valentine's Day. I think that flower is most associated with love?"
"You are correct. Roses are the common flower used to represent love." SU just smiled seeing how clueless Kevin was right now as they finally stood in front of SU's rose collection.
"But each rose has a different meaning depending on its color. Red roses symbolize love and romance and are the perfect Valentine's Day rose. Pink roses symbolize gratitude, grace, admiration, and joy. Orange roses symbolize enthusiasm and passion. Yellow roses symbolize friendship. And White roses symbolize innocence and purity."
"Wow, you actually understand flowers so much, SU. I thought every rose had the same meaning no matter what color it was." Kevin chuckled lightly as he looked in awe hearing all those explanations.
"Well, as a florist, I need to understand them so I can choose which flower that fits to deliver my customer's message. You can't just send red roses to a cemetary right?"
"You got a point." Kevin slightly nodded as SU finally walked to the other side of his flower collection.
"Well, since roses are a bit mainstream. How about the other flower?" Suggested SU with a polite tone.
"You mean, there is another flower that can represent love other than roses?" Kevin is curious.
"Of course." The white haired male quickly rushed to SU as he finally saw some kind of flowers which were much more different than roses. There is some flower with purple colors that caught Kevin's attention the most.
"What flower is this?" SU raised one of his eyebrows as he finally smiled looking at Kevin's choice.
"It's an Iris. The name is based on the Greek Goddess of love and represents elegance and sophistication with its uniqueness."
"Sounds cool. I will pick this then." Said Kevin as he took one of the flowers and stared at it intently.
"Great choices, Kevin. I bet those colors remind you of your girlfriend, right?" Guessed SU as Kevin turned at him with awe once again.
"How do you know about it, SU? I swear, are you secretly a psychic or something?" SU could only chuckle after hearing that statement. Looking at how confused Kevin is right now brings a smile to his face.
"Some of my customers always choose a flower that reminds them of someone meaningful to them. It's nothing new."
"Is that so?" Murmured Kevin silently as he saw how SU began to prepare his bouquet of flowers. The way he talks and how soft he smiles, seems like the grey haired florist is a very kind man. He is so polite and humble. That makes him more charming than a lady. But Kevin still felt how mysterious SU was with the way he acted towards him.
As if the fuchsia eyed male was hiding something from him.
"It actually reminded me of her hair. Her hair has that slight purple color to it. I think these flowers will suit her nicely." Said Kevin as he finally saw the final result of the bouquet of Iris flowers from SU. It's already being wrapped nicely in a dark purple ribbon in the center.
"I see. I'm sure she will be happy receiving flowers from you. This flower will definitely carry your feelings to her."
SU could only give a soft smile. And in that very moment their eyes meet again in silence. The way those azures seemed lost inside the fuchsia ones as if both of them dived inside the sea of past memories. The florist suddenly blushed hard when he realized that his hand and Kevin's hand kept touching for a very long time.
"I… I'm sorry. Here is your bouquet." Those nervous voices made Kevin widen his eyes as his mind finally came back to reality. He coughed a little bit as he tried to hide his embarrassment. This is just so awkward for them since this is their first meeting and yet, they acted as if they've met their long lost ones.
"Ah, thank you, SU." Kevin then takes the bouquet and gives the money to the grey haired florist. After finishing his payment, the white haired male quickly bid his farewell and waved his hand.
"I'll definitely recommend your flower shops to my other friends. See you around, SU."
Kevin cheerfully smiles at SU as he gives one last glance to the florist before leaving completely. After a moment of silence, SU suddenly dropped his smile as he kept staring at the direction where Kevin had just left with sadness in his eyes without the white haired male being aware of it.
__________
Nearly everyday, Kevin could see from afar how SU's flower shop is always full of various customers. Since he already came back from Europe and back to Nagazora, his hometown, he can always see how SU is single handling all his customers inside his shop.
Kevin could see how all those high school girls looked so happy when they received their flowers from SU. From his experience dealing with all kinds of girls like that, Kevin can tell that those female customers are actually fans of SU and they bought flowers just as an excuse to be closer to the grey haired florist himself. But looking at how SU didn't take the initiation from all those girls, it seems like the florist wasn't interested in them at all.
Then there are a couple of elders. Kevin looked amazed when SU gave some of his flowers for free to those elders. Those elders looked so happy and only wished for SU to reach his own dream and happiness in the future. SU only says his thank you with a soft smile on his face.
And then there is a child. A small little girl that wants a sunflower. She begged for her mother to buy her one, only to be rejected. The little girl began to cry but SU quickly came to the little girl, kneeled in front of her, giving a single sunflower. The very big one to the little girl. Making her stop her crying, smiling in happiness. When the mother asked for the price, the grey haired florist just shook his head as he wanted to give the flower for free.
Now, Kevin knows why SU's flower shop has become the most favorite flower shop in his hometown.
That selflessness and pure kindness draws everyone to SU. As well as Kevin himself.
The white haired male began to walk slowly toward the shop as he was just smiling looking at SU who sat on the ground and still busied himself arranging some bouquets. He looked a bit hurried to catch up with the deadline of all his customer's orders. He didn't realize that Kevin already stood behind him.
"Oh no. I should have included some carnations in this bouquet! How could I forget this!?" SU seemed like he was talking to himself. He looked rather panicked as he quickly stood up and turned his back to bring some carnations, only to be bumped into Kevin, making him lose his balance.
In a split second. SU widened his eyes as someone suddenly grabbed his hand and he felt his body being pulled closer into a very warm embrace, preventing him from falling to the ground. He gasped as he could feel someone's hand wrapped around his waist tightly.
It felt like someone was just holding him passionately for a romantic dance.
He quickly turned his eyes to the one who just saved him. Those bright azure eyes were a mere inch away from his face as well as those delicate lips.
"K-Kevin…" his heart was pounding so hard, it felt like bursting out. SU's whole body became hot all of a sudden. He blushed hard looking at how handsome Kevin was while the Kaslana stared at him intently. Time seemed to stop for a moment. The grey haired florist looked frozen while he was too speechless to say anything.
Those bouquets in his hand suddenly fell to the ground as both males snapped out from their wandering minds. Kevin widened his eyes as he quickly let go of SU, trying to keep himself from getting flustered.
"Sorry, I saw you nearly fall to the ground just now. I only wanted to help you." He then picks up the bouquet on the ground and gives it to SU, smiling softly.
"Do you need help? I'll gladly help you with all those bouquets if you want." That genuine offer making SU turn his eyes from Kevin as he still can't stop his face for being so red all of sudden.
"Only if you don't mind then." Answered SU timidly as he tried to offer a soft smile to the white haired male. Kevin then began to help SU by bringing some flowers while the grey haired florist arranged the bouquets one by one. As the time passed, SU nearly finished arranging every bouquet that his customers had ordered from him.
"I wonder, what made you interested in becoming a florist in the first place?" Asked Kevin as both of the males took a break for a while. The Kaslana sat on the ground beside SU while staring at the grey haired florist who was still arranging one of his last customer bouquets.
SU raised his eyebrows for a moment. "Why are you suddenly asking me that, Kevin?"
"Well, I'm just curious. It's just so rare to see someone open a flower shop in this town." Kevin merely shrugged as SU could only chuckle lightly. The grey haired male then stares at his bouquet as he inhales for a bit before he diving into his past.
"Actually, becoming a florist never crossed my mind in my childhood. I wanted to be a Doctor in the future. But… one day, there was someone that said to me that I have a pretty face… just like a flower."
"What?" Kevin frowned in confusion. Those fuchsia eyes finally turned at him with some light of hope inside it.
"Can you believe me if those words that someone said to me back then actually made me become a florist now?"
"Well, that someone must be very special to you if those words made you become a florist." Assumed Kevin as SU just nodded while closing his eyes.
"Yes. He is very special to me. He is my very best friend and the hero of my life."
'The one I loved the most. More than anything in this world.'
Those last words can only be said inside his heart. SU didn't dare to spill the truth to Kevin. The Kaslana male could only keep his silence as he wanted to hear more about SU's story.
"We have been friends since childhood. Back then, there were just so many kids that bullied me. I've been bullied just because I looked like a girl with my long hair and my tiny body."
"What?" Kevin frowned hearing that as he began to feel irritated "That's so messed up. What's wrong with having long hair? I see so many boys that have long hair when I'm in Europe and it's not a problem."
"It's different here. Even though I already cut my hair short, they still kept bullying me over and over." SU formed a bittersweet smile seeing how sorry Kevin looked right now.
"And then he came. A boy with admirable courage and strength. He suddenly came to protect me from those kids. He said to me that I didn't deserve to be bullied and I should be proud of myself because I looked… beautiful no matter if I'm a boy or a girl. He said that I reminded him of… flowers."
SU smiles softly in his reminisce about his past.
"He seemed like a very cool person. I would definitely do the same thing if I were in his shoes. You are a very kindhearted person and you didn't deserve to be treated like that, SU."
"I will definitely protect you too."
That determination within Kevin's words made SU widened his eyes. It made his heart shudder as he bit his bottom lips hard, holding in all of his feelings. He turned his eyes quickly, trying hard to keep the tears from flowing out. He forces a smile as he shakes his head.
"Thank you, Kevin."
"So, about this awesome best friend of yours, where is he now? I want to meet him. Seems like he is a very fun person. He has the same belief as me. The same belief to protect the one who matters to us."
SU was silent for a few moments. He then began to stand as he walked slowly toward the door, leaving Kevin who was still behind him and staring at him from his back, waiting for an answer.
With a heavy heart, the florist muttered his answer.
"He is… just gone... and never remembers anything about me anymore..."
_____________
"I wonder, do you remember anything, Kevin?"
"Remember... about what?"
"Your own past."
Kevin could only give Elysia a blank stare with that straightforward question. A week had passed and Kevin is still curious about what happened with SU and his past. He tried to search for an answer from Elysia. But, she suddenly asked a reverse question.
"I just wanted to ask you about SU's missing best friend. Why did you suddenly ask me that kind of question? What's your point?" From the way that Kevin looked so confused and lost, the pink haired girl immediately knew the answer of her own question.
"Because the answer to your question depends on your answer."
"What?"
Elysia sighed heavily as Kevin became even more confused than before. But, she knows the very reason why Kevin couldn't recall his very own past. She just can't say it to the white haired male because of the impact it will have on his mind.
She just hoped the more he met with SU and spent his time with the grey haired florist, the more Kevin would remember about his forgotten past by himself.
"Well, since this is going nowhere, let's change the topic of this conversation, shall we? I know from the way you look so sad is because there is another reason. Tell me, what is it? Is it about… Mei?"
Kevin widened his eyes for a slight second as he was surprised with Elysia's ability to read what was inside of his mind. He then sighed heavily as he leaned his back against the chair that he sat on.
"What do you think, Elysia? Is there no hope at all for our relationship?"
Elysia could only shake her head as she began to feel sorry toward her friend.
"She won't change her mind, Kevin. She decided to pursue her dream to become a scientist. Deep down, you knew it yourself, right? You know how difficult it is to maintain a long distance relationship between you and Mei. I know this is hard for you but this is for the best. Just let her go, Kevin."
Well, letting go of a five years relationship with his ex-girlfriend definitely won't be easy. But, he can't do anything about it. He must respect Mei's decision. He must accept the truth that she isn't the one for him and that the both of them have different ideas. Pretending that they can keep their relationship is futile now.
He must let her go.
Kevin could only turn his azure eyes down as his expressionless face began to feel rather gloomy. Elysia tapped his shoulder as she offered her comforting smile to her friend and tried to lift up his mood.
"Well, what about you go to SU's place right now?"
"...Why?" Kevin's voice still sounded heavy and sad.
"I'm sure all of his beautiful flowers could heal your heart. You need it right now Kevin. And when you are at his place, could you deliver this thing to SU? It's a small gift from me to him."
Kevin could only raise his eyebrows looking at the pink paper bag in front of him. Before he could object and say anything, Elysia just pulled him from his chair and pushed him to walk toward the flower shop.
"Just tell SU I said hi! And enjoy your 'bros' bonding with him! There is something I need to do now. See you later, Kevin!"
His pink haired friend waved bye to Kevin as she immediately left. The Kaslana male could only sigh heavily as he turned his attention to the flower shop and decided to walk slowly toward there.
___________
"These flowers are so beautiful, sir! What is the name of this?"
"Oh, it's just a White Chrysanthemum." SU just smiles looking at how those high school girls admire his flowers. One of them began to take one of those flowers and turned at SU.
"Can you tell us the meaning of this flower, Sir?" Asked the girl, curiously.
"White chrysanthemums are believed to represent happiness, love, longevity and joy." Explained SU as he arranged one of the bouquets.
"But if you look deep into it, these flowers are actually a symbol of loyalty and... devoted love."
"Devoted love? That sounds so romantic even more than a rose." SU just chuckled softly seeing those high school girls stare at him in awe. Not aware of the other spectator. Kevin listened to that conversation from afar.
"Then, I will take this flower, sir. I want to give this to someone that I've loved for so long. Seems like this flower suited my message better than sending a rose. And this flower is cuter too. A rose is just too bold to describe my feelings to him."
"Good choice. I'll prepare the flower for you then."
Kevin stared in silence, looking at how those high school girls laughed in joy receiving all those white flowers. Chrysanthemums are a common flower in Europe. But Kevin never once thought deeply of the meaning behind them. Devoted love. It's such a deep meaning even for him. He never knew how a flower can convey such a genuine feeling more than a word itself.
After all those high school girls walked out from the shop, SU looked at the white flowers in his hand. From the melancholy look in his eyes, it seems like those flowers hold a very special meaning for him. The way he softly caressed the white petals of those flowers as if he was reminded of someone dear to his heart. Someone who always stays in his mind.
Someone who SU gives his devoted love to.
"Those flowers. Is that your most favorite one?"
"K-Kevin!? Since when did you get here!?" SU nearly had a heart attack seeing Kevin who was standing behind him. Kevin rubbed the back of his head as he quickly apologized to the florist.
"I'm sorry, SU. I should have knocked on the door first or hit the bell to let you know about my arrival."
"It's alright." SU quickly regained his composure as he put the flowers back to their original place. He then turned at the albino male with a soft smile on his face
"So, what can I do for you, Kevin? Do you need flowers for your girlfriend?"
SU suddenly frowned as he saw how gloomy Kevin looked now. This isn't his usual cheery self. And so he began to worry about it. "Kevin, what's wrong? Are you okay?"
Kevin quickly shakes his head as he forces himself to give a reassuring smile. "I'm fine. No. I didn't want flowers for her. We already broke up."
That news surprised SU as he widened his eyes, he can't believe what he just heard. "I'm sorry, Kevin. I didn't know about that."
"It's alright, SU. You don't need to worry about me. I'm fine. See?" Kevin kept his smile as he didn't want to drag SU to his misery. "I brought something for you. It's from Elysia. She said hi."
"Oh?" SU looked at the pink paper bag as he began to take it from Kevin. "Thank you, Kevin. Ah, Ely shouldn't be bothering herself to send me this kind of gift. But I appreciate her a lot. Please, say my thanks to her."
"Will do." Said Kevin as he merely nodded. SU then put Elysia's gift somewhere safe as he decided to check on it later. From the look of it, SU guessed that the pink haired girl was giving him some kind of perfume gift or something like that. Typical of Elysia.
"Seeing how Elysia always talks about you. I assume you know her well?"
"Ah, you could say something like that. I’ve known her... since childhood." There’s hesitation in his voice as if SU wants to cover something. That answer made Kevin widen his eyes. He didn't expect Elysia and SU to have known each other since then.
"Since childhood? Wait, if you’ve known Ely since childhood, shouldn’t I've met you as well since Ely's house isn't far from mine?"
SU bites his bottom lip hard. This is why he was hesitant to tell his past with Elysia to Kevin. Their past is connected to another. In just a matter of time Kevin will figure it out for himself.
But even though SU can't tell the truth, he won't be lying to Kevin either.
"Well, back then in my youth, I heard about a very popular white haired boy who was quite skilled in basketball. I think that boy was you?" SU chuckled softly and acted like he really hadn't met Kevin before. But from the way those fuchsia eyes were staring at him, Kevin felt like there was a faint hope inside it. He still didn't know what kind of hope SU's harboured for him.
But, the way SU talked about the past is finally making a genuine smile form on Kevin's face. As if his dimmed mood from his break-up with Mei, had been brightened up a bit by the grey haired florist in front of him.
"My memories of the past are a bit fuzzy. But knowing that I'm kind of popular back then is kinda intriguing…" Kevin chuckled softly as he began to lean against the wall.
"I kinda missed being in this town. The one thing I remembered is my parents took me and we moved to Europe when I was still eight years old. I kinda… forgot the main reason why my parents took me to Europe at that time. But, they said to me that they love this town and someday we will be back here. And here I am."
SU patiently hears all of the story as he finally smiles. Without Kevin knowing about it, he already prepared some kind of gift that he wanted to give to the Kaslana. He put it inside a brown waterproof paper bag and sealed it with transparent masking tape.
He brings that paper bag with him as he decides to walk to the door. "Well, since you are finally back in your hometown, what if we do a little bit of a tour to relieve all your past and nostalgia? Maybe, you can remember something along the way."
Kevin quickly looked up as he saw SU genuinely smiling at him. "Well, that's kind of a good idea. What about your shop?"
"I planned to close it early today. Don't worry about it." The long haired florist flipped his door sign from open to closed as he finally waved to Kevin to follow him.
"What are you waiting for? Let's go, Kevin."
"Okay…" Kevin merely nodded as he followed SU to walk toward the outside of the shop.
___________
The sun is hiding behind the dark cloud. The sky quickly darkens as if it's going to cry out their tears of rain. But, that bad weather didn't stop the two males from enjoying their short tour together.
SU showed him every corner of their small hometown. Kevin began to remember little by little with every familiar place that he used to see when he was in his childhood twenty years ago.
He saw his old elementary school. He still remembers when he was in the same class as Elysia. Both him and the pink haired girl became the most popular kids in school because of Kevin's rare European blood and Elysia's unique beauty.
And when Kevin asked SU whether he enrolled in the same school as him back then, the grey haired male could only smile as he just answered the question with a mere silence.
It makes Kevin even more curious about the florist beside him.
They then moved over to the small basketball court beside the public garden. SU could only stare intently at Kevin who walked slowly to the center of the court. He knows how much the Kaslana loves basketball. It's literally been his passion since childhood.
Kevin suddenly widened his azure eyes as his hand quickly grabbed the basketball that SU threw at him with his keen reflex. The florist could only give a soft smile.
"You love basketball, right? Show me your skills, Kevin."
"Wait, how did you know about that?"
"Just from the rumours. You are a very popular kid after all." SU smirked a little as he crossed his arms and leaned against the wall, watching Kevin intently. Kevin just chuckled as he stared back at SU with a hint of fascination within his voice.
"You secretly want me to be even more curious about you right, SU?"
The way Kevin handsomely smirked at SU as if he accepted the challenge succeeded in making the grey haired florist get flustered for a bit. He began to chuckle as he winked at the Kaslana to tease him back. With that, Kevin began to show off his skills even though he had stopped playing Basketball after he graduated from college. He can still do a three-pointer shot flawlessly.
SU loves watching him like this. It feels like he saw Kevin turn back to his childhood self. He loved watching how Kevin began to move and run so fast, dribbling his basketball and throwing it into the ring effortlessly. As if he’s dancing in the middle of the Basketball court.
From the way Kevin laughed so freely and how the happiness poured onto his handsome face, SU could tell that he had already succeeded in brightening up Kevin's gloomy mood. At least for now he can forget about his painful break up with Mei.
The sudden roaring thunder began to startle SU as he quickly rushed to the indoor area to protect himself from the rain.
"Kevin! We'd better make a run for it before you get drenched!" Shouted SU as he stood below the garden ceiling. Kevin could only laugh happily as he enjoyed how the rain soaked all his body, creating a very fresh and cold sensation.
"Come here, SU! Just enjoy the rain once in a while!"
"W-Wait, Kevin!" SU widened his eyes as Kevin quickly ran toward him and grabbed his hand. He pulled the florist with him as the both of them were quickly drenched by the hard rain. Kevin began to laugh heavily as he kept holding onto SU's hand tightly in the middle of the BasketBall court. SU finally laughed as well as he could feel his heart beating so fast, seeing of how happy Kevin was spending his time with him like this.
This is the first time in his life that Kevin could finally feel so fulfilled. He didn't feel like this when he was with Mei. But, being with SU who somewhat knew him inside out, he feels so happy and free. He feels so comfortable around the grey haired male as if he is the very best friend that he’s had his entire life.
SU isn't his lover but why does Kevin feel so much joy when he is with him rather than being with his ex-girlfriend Mei?
He’d just met SU but why does it feel like Kevins already knew him for a very long time?
It feels like SU is a part of his deepest life that has been missing this entire time. He feels so completed being with SU. He feels like he can be himself. The way SU knew about his school and about his passion for Basketball. The way he holds Kevin's hand so gently and warm. The way those fuchsia eyes passionately stare at him with endless admiration.
Kevin can finally feel it.
How SU sees him as his most treasured person in his life.
What if…
Someone who saved SU back then when he was still in his childhood is actually... Kevin himself?
The drops of rain keep pouring on top of his face as Kevin finally stares at how drenched SU face is right now. His long hair soaked with rain as those beautiful fuchsia eyes keep staring at him without words.
Everything about SU reminded Kevin of flowers.
Those eyes have the same color as the Fuchsia flowers. That long grey hair reminds him of scabiosa. And his soft and pretty face reminds him of white roses.
Everything about SU is beautiful.
And Kevin never realized that in the eyes of SU, he just looked so perfect.
In the eyes of SU, he never changes. His snow white hair that will always remind him of White Chrysanthemums. Those cheerful smiles reminded him of a sunflower. And those beautiful blue eyes reminded him of the Azure snow flower.
Everything about Kevin is gorgeous.
As the two males feel lost in each other's admiration. Their faces suddenly become a mere inch away as SU can't get away from those deep azure eyes that stare at him intently. As the rain kept pouring from above, their lips slowly pressed against one another as Kevin suddenly closed his eyes, savouring those sensations.
SU's heart is beating so fast as he can feel radiating heat from his whole body. Those kisses combined with the rain made him shudder in need. He missed Kevin. He missed Kevin so much. He was already waiting too long for his arrival. He even became a florist just to make Kevin remember him.
He longs for the Kaslana male so much. So much that it hurts.
Both of the male began to gasp as the rain made it difficult to breathe. But, it won't stop them from keeping their feelings for one another as they try to deepen their kiss. SU began to feel weak as Kevin dominated their kiss. His mind feels so lost inside a hidden desire that he has held for Kevin for a long time.
SU loved him so much. Kevin Kaslana is his entire world. The eternal light inside his heart.
'Kevin, you are my hero!'
Those azure eyes suddenly widened in shock as he could see a sudden vision of the past invading his mind. He suddenly saw a past vision of a long grey haired boy smiling widely at him as he grabbed Kevin's hand tightly.
'Kevin, you promised me that you will never leave me, right? So… please, let me go everywhere with you.' Begged the long haired boy as his fuchsia eyes staring at Kevin with hope in his eyes. Eight years old Kevin could only chuckle lightly as he rubbed his best friend's head.
'I promised you, those bullies will never harm you again. You don't need to follow me anywhere… SU.'
'SU…' That long forgotten name suddenly emerged from his deepest sub-consciousness as Kevin suddenly felt a sharp pain in his head, making him break the kiss with the grey haired florist.
"K-Kevin, what's wrong?" SU looked so worried as he saw Kevin holding his forehead with a painful expression on his face. The albino closed his azure eyes tightly as more and more visions of the past kept invading his mind without mercy.
'SU, Watch out!'
'KEVIN!'
A vision of impact. Blood. Darkness.
Kevin stares in fear as he suddenly feels so much pain in his whole body. His heart gnawed with a hidden wound from the past that couldn't be healed. SU quickly grabbed Kevin's shoulder as he tried to make the white haired man snap out of his mind.
"Kevin? Kevin, what's wrong with you? Kevin!"
"N-No… stay away from me!"
"K-Kevin…" SU could only stare with a broken look on his face as he saw how Kevin suddenly pushed him harshly. The white haired male looked so pale as his breath hitched while staring at SU with a painful expression on his face. The more he saw the grey haired florist, the more his brain felt like splitting apart with so many forgotten past memories.
Those painful visions.
The very forgotten and painful memories that had been scratched out of his mind.
Red. Blood. And darkness.
The memories of how he laid on his own pool of blood after saving SU from the car accident. The memories of how those azure eyes stare blankly at his best friend in his dying state. The memories of how he saw little SU screaming his name with fear evident in his face. The blared sound of an ambulance's siren. The loss of the light inside his dimmed and vacant azure eyes.
And the sudden infinite darkness as he almost lost his life and walked to his death.
Kevin gritted his teeth as he covered his face with right hand.
"I… I need some time alone…"
"Kevin…" The tears suddenly fell from SU's eyes as his whole body began to shake in fear. Is this a sign that Kevin is rejecting his love for him? Did the kiss make the albino disgusted with him?
"I… I'm sorry…"
SU suddenly feels so powerless to see the truth of how Kevin rejected him. The sudden trauma of being bullied since kids invades his mind as the florist's broken face looks even more devastated. He can't bear being hated by Kevin. It will destroy SU harder than anything in this world.
Kevin is his whole world itself.
The moment he saw those beautiful azure eyes, he knew how Kevin already owned everything inside him. He is the only one who can turn SU's world upside down. And he is the one who could crush SU's heart and make it crumble forever if he wanted to.
He can't hold the painful tears that flow from his eyes as he mutters his apology. As the rain kept drenching them, SU finally granted Kevin's wish to leave him alone. He quickly ran away, leaving the white haired male alone in the middle of the Basketball court.
Kevin's attention suddenly turned to the brown waterproof paper bag that had been dropped by SU before the florist left him. He began to kneel down to take the paper bag as he slowly opened the masking tape and took what was inside those paper bags. His azure eyes suddenly widened in shock.
Inside was a photo. And a flower.
A photo of a smiling white haired boy.
And a White Chrysanthemum.
______________
“This fuchsia flower looks so good on you, SU. It suits your eyes too. See? You are not ugly! You are beautiful just like a flower! Those annoying kids could never see your real beauty!”
Little SU blushed hard as he heard those genuine compliments. Kevin seems to not be aware how red his best friend's face is right now as he turns his eyes from Kevin. He let Kevin put the flower on top of his head like a crown. A wide smile forms Kevin's cheerful expression as grabbed his best friend's shoulder making SU turn his attention to him again.
“Kevin, I'm thinking of cutting my hair short so those kids won't mistake me as a girl and bully me again. Well, a boy should have short hair, shouldn't they?” muttered SU timidly. Kevin looked surprised with that statement as he shook his head.
“But I love your long hair, SU! Come on, you shouldn't cut it!” Begged Kevin as SU grinned with a little blush on his cute face.
“Don't worry, Kevin. I will grow my hair long again when I'm an adult. Just for you.”
.
.
Kevin stares at SU's flower shop. It’s been closed for two days straight since the day SU left him alone on the Basketball court. He finally remembered all his past forgotten memories. He finally knew the reason why he forgot it all and the reason his parents moved him to Europe leaving his hometown for nearly twenty years.
Kevin finally embraces the truth.
He then walks slowly as a fragment of his past memories pops up in his mind.
“This is so pretty. What flower is this SU?”
“It's a White Chrysanthemum. Pretty, isn't it? The white color reminded me of your hair, Kevin!”
Both of the boys spent their time in the garden. They laughed together as Kevin finally laid on top of the grass while watching the sky above him. SU smiled softly as he sat beside the Kaslana boy.
“I wonder if all of these flowers have a meaning?” muttered Kevin. He then turned his attention to SU. “Should I become a florist first if I want to know the meaning of these flowers? But I love basketball more than being a florist…”
SU could only chuckle seeing Kevin's cute and innocent antics.
“Well, What if I become a florist for you so you can still chase your dream to become a Basketball player in the future?”
"Wait, do you seriously want to be a florist just because of this SU?" Kevin looked so surprised. SU merely shrugs innocently.
"Why not? Being a florist seems fun!"
"But many adult people said that being a florist will not make you rich in the future!" SU tilted his head for a moment as he smiled softly at Kevin.
"Well, I will become a florist not to become rich. I will become a florist just for you, Kevin. So I can give you flowers everyday!"
.
.
Those azure eyes finally caught sight of a rather minimalistic house with so many flowers surrounding the inside. Twenty years since Kevin last saw this house. It still looks the same. As his past memories returned to him, Kevin can finally remember how to find SU's house that is not far from his own.
He needed to talk to SU and clear all the misunderstanding between them.
He knocked on the door slowly. Waiting for the florist to give some response. Kevin waited with patience as the door finally opened, he looked shocked seeing how bad SU's state was right then.
"K-Kevin!? What are you doing here?" His voice sounded so hoarse. His eyes looked red. It seems like SU had been crying non stop these past two days. Kevin began to worry as he quickly grabbed the grey haired male's shoulder firmly.
"SU, are you okay? You look sick. What happened to you?"
"I…" SU can't form the right words to answer those questions as he is still too dumbstruck with Kevin's arrival to his house. He never expected this to happen. In the past two days, he didn't open his shop and just spent his time alone in his house. Crying silently, surrounded by his biggest fear of being hated by Kevin.
He then quickly shook away the grasp of Kevin's hands to get away. "I… I should be the one asking you, why are you here?"
"We need to talk. About everything."
A straightforward answer. Those azure eyes stare intently at SU as the florist knew how he couldn't get away from Kevin no matter how hard he tried. Those eyes will never fail to make him feel powerless. SU could only bite his bottom lip as he turned his eyes from Kevin and just opened the door without a word.
Both of the males slowly entered the house as Kevin started to glance at his surroundings. There is awkward silence between them. SU can't keep his usual calm composure. He didn't know why Kevin was here. He has a bad feeling about it. His thoughts are filled with what ifs. What if Kevin was here just to say to SU that he hated him and was disgusted in him?
That will destroy SU even more than he already has now.
"What do you want to drink?"
"Anything is fine."
Kevin saw how SU looked so messed up right now, he knew the reason behind the Florist's change of state. SU must have thought that he had already rejected him from the way he harshly told SU to leave him alone. Kevin really needed some time alone to brace all his forgotten past memories. And some of those memories are just too painful to be remembered.
Kevin knew how deep the guilt inside SU was about all of those dark memories.
"I finally remembered everything. About what happened back then when I was still in my childhood. About why I suddenly forgot about it. About why my parents suddenly moved me to Europe. And about you… I finally remember you."
SU could only put two glasses of water on top of the desk as he finally sat in his chair while he didn't dare to look straight toward Kevin. He gritted his teeth clenched his fist tightly as he could feel his heart beating so fast with anxiety.
"Someone special that you always called a hero back when you were still in your childhood. That someone is me… right?" Asked Kevin as he wanted to make sure he was right about it first. After a few moments of silence, SU finally nodded his head as he didn't want to keep the truth from the Kaslana male anymore.
"Yes. That person is you, Kevin."
"I remember the first time we met. I remember the way I always protected you from those bullies. I remember how we always were together and acted as one. You are my very best friend. Someone that mattered the most to me "
Those blue eyes finally turned at SU as the florist still couldn't say anything to him.
"That day, you nearly got hit by a car when we crossed the road together. You nearly lost your life. I decided to push you out from the road, resulting in the car hitting me instead. I had a serious head injury that made me forget almost half of my memories. Including my own name back then."
Kevin closed his eyes for a moment as those painful memories are actually affecting his mind. Whenever he remembers those incidents, his head hurts.
"And then my parents decided to bring me back to Europe. To the place where my mother gave birth to me. I started my new life as a blank slate there without your name in my memories. And as I grew up, I felt like something was missing in my life. Every night, I've always had the same dream. A dream about someone. A little boy with long grey hair that keeps calling my name in the dark."
SU could only stare vacantly hearing all those truths. Kevin leaned his back against the seat as he kept recalling what happened to him.
"And then I decided to go back to this town. And there I met up again with Elysia who seemed to try to make me remember about you and told me to go to your flower shop. When I first met you in the shop, I just had this kind of hunch that I already met you somewhere. And it turned out to be true. You are actually my long lost best friend in the past. The one who always appeared in my dream."
The white haired male suddenly pulled out a photo and a white flower from his pocket as he put it on the desk for SU to see it. Those fuchsia eyes finally turned at the photo with the picture of eight years old Kevin smiling cheerfully on it.
"I know you tried to make me remember my past without having to tell me yourself. You want me to figure it out slowly with all the hints and the tour that you give me that day. And this photo is the last piece of the puzzle. Thanks to you I finally remember everything."
Those azure eyes finally turned to the dried White Chrysanthemum beside the photo. That white flower that SU wanted to give to him that day but failed to deliver it in a better way.
"This White Chrysanthemum… is this your true feelings toward me, SU?"
Devoted love. It's a hidden message that SU wants Kevin to know after all this time, he is always waiting for Kevin to come back. He became a florist to fulfill their past promises to each other. SU will never open his heart to anyone.
Because no matter what happened, all his love and heart will always belong to Kevin.
This is his devoted love to the Kaslana. He will remain loyal to Kevin even if Kevin will have a girlfriend in the future or marry someone else. SU doesn't care as he will keep loving Kevin until his very last breath.
"If… if only you didn't save me from that car accident, none of this would have happened. You wouldn’t have lost your memories. And your parents wouldn’t have taken you to Europe. You nearly lost your life because of me! It is all my fault! I'm sorry, Kevin…"
SU suddenly has a mental breakdown as he couldn’t hold all of his tears anymore. He covered his face with his hand as he clenched his chest tightly. The vision about Kevin lying in his pool of blood staring vacantly at him is forever imprinted in his mind as it brought a painful trauma inside SU. He nearly lost the life of the person he loved the most because of his own fault.
He deserved to be hated by Kevin. To be despised by him.
"If… if only you didn't save me back then…" his voice began to get hoarse as he couldn't hold the pain inside his chest. He feels like his body is gonna fall to the ground anytime soon but he tries to grab the seat tightly to prevent him from passing out because of the unbearable mental pressure.
"I… I know I didn't deserve your forgiveness. But, I just want you to know. No matter what happens between us after this, be it you hate me or don’t want to see my face again. I just want you to know that I… I l-love you, Kevin..."
"And this feeling will never change until the end of my life..."
Without words, Kevin suddenly grabbed SU's shoulder as he stared intently at the grey haired male in front of him. He kissed all those tears, making the florist widen his eyes in shock. He felt numb when those warm fingers caressed his chin, and wiped all his tears away.
"Even if saving your life costs all my memories. I'll gladly do it. I have no regrets about my actions in the past. You are the one who mattered the most to me. The one who means the world to me. And I vowed to protect you with my life, SU."
Kevin pressed their forehead together as he closed his azure eyes while wrapped his arms around SU.
"And you are the only one that I loved the most...in this entire world, SU. I love you too."
Those genuine confessions made tears flow hard from SU's eyes as he finally fell into Kevin's embrace and buried his face in the albino's neck. He cries his heart out as he still can't believe that Kevin still loves him after all this time. It feels like a beautiful dream. He didn't deserve any of Kevin's kindness.
But he can't imagine living without Kevin. Without Kevin's love for him. Without his light inside his life.
Kevin is his main purpose to keep going in this life. Kevin is his main reason for why he became a florist in the first place. His main purpose is to keep waiting for the Kaslana to return to Nagazora. And SU still couldn't believe his hero. His light. His life purpose. His very best friend finally reciprocates his feelings and loves him back.
After a few moments of silence, Kevin slowly closed the gap between them as he pressed his lips against SU, kissing him deeply. The grey haired male began to feel weak as he couldn't hold all his overflowing feelings and unbearable longings inside his heart. He let Kevin dominate him as those tears still kept pouring from both of his eyes.
They kissed and kissed again until they forgot how to breathe.
As The White Chrysanthemum became the only silent witness of their devoted love to one another.
