Another day, another attack on Hogwarts, the school of Witchcraft and Wizardy. Only this time you ended up in the infirmary part of Hogwarts, you only had a broken left arm and a few scratches and cuts. Your main worry though was James, you had no idea where he was, an explosion in the great hall had started the attack. James, Remus, Sirius, and Peter with the rest of the Gryffindors were in Potions with the Hufflepuffs, while you and the rest of the Ravenclaws were in Transfiguration with the Slytherins. You hadn’t seen James since lunch and had no idea if he was safe or if God forbid he was dead. The worrying hurt more than the pain of your injuries. You and James had been dating since your Fourth-year and were now in the middle of your Sixth year.
They’ve been the best two years of your life. When James wasn’t spending time pulling pranks with the boys he was with you in the library helping you study for your N.E.W.T.S, and though you weren’t “technically” aloud in the Gryffindor tower, James had sneaked you in multiple times. He also would get any of the other Marauders to sneak you in sometimes, and half of their pranks were your ideas. All of those good times run through your head as you watch more people being brought into the infirmary, none of them had been any of your friends, yet. Suddenly the infirmary doors burst open and all the marauders come rushing in, including James whose eyes are looking at everyone until they lock onto yours and he rushes over you. “Bloody hell, you look awful,” Sirius says as he approaches your bedside, “Thanks, I feel terrible”. Sirius still looks rather untouched by the events of today, his black hair only slightly out of place and his uniform rumpled and black smudges on his face. Remus’s brown hair is also ruffled and is noticeably holding onto his boyfriend’s sweater. Sirius grabs Remus’s hand to hold it tightly, they started dating early this year. Peter looks the most disheveled, “I went to help first years,” Peter explains.
Then your eyes shift to James, his eyes are red-rimmed and his glasses are sitting crooked on his nose. His white button-up is rolled up and he’s grabbed your hand. “Are you okay, love,” he whispers while leaning over to kiss the top of your head. “I’m okay, just sore,” James looks over you slightly and then kisses the top of your head again. “At least you get a cool cast,” Remus says and James laughs, “It’s only for the night, to make sure the bones fix correctly,” you explain. “So if I break my arm I only get a cast for one day? How am I supposed to get out of homework,” Sirius asks and Remus just shakes his head with a disappointed sigh. Sirius looks over at Remus and kisses the side of his head. “I would let you do my homework, moony,” “I do your homework anyway,” Remus retorts with a small blush and smile, those two were so in love it was insane.
The sun began to set and each head of the houses came to get all the kids back safely to the common rooms. James pleaded with the head of Grfyndoor house who, reluctantly, gave in to let him stay overnight with you. James slides his shoes off as you shift over in the small bed. James’s eyes move over you again, as if he’s looking for more injures to appear. “I’m okay,” you say quietly but James shakes his head. “How did you even get hurt,” “Me and other Sixth years ran to see if anyone got hurt after the explosion, a few death eaters were still in the room so we tried to fend them off with the professors but one of the spells hit my arm,” you say softly and grab onto James’s hand tugging slightly so that he will lay next to you. “How did you and the boys get stuff on you,” “We went running like you but since we were in the dungeons it took longer and you were already gone by the time we got there. I didn’t know where you were. If you were hurt, which clearly you are.” he says, his voice breaking mid-sentence causing your heart to hurt. “I am fine,” you say sternly. James sighs and lays next to you and puts his arm around you.
You lean on James’s chest and listen to the soft rhythm of his heart. “Never scare me like that again, (Y/N) (Y/L/N), I can’t handle the thought of not knowing if your safe or not,” James pleads quietly and tightens his grip on you slightly but not enough to hurt you. You’d come to realize since dating James that he was terrified of losing you to this war. He hated the fact he couldn’t protect you, though he knew you could protect yourself. You felt James kiss the top of your head, “I can’t handle not knowing if you’re safe or not, James Potter,” you said quietly and held onto James’s freehand with your non-injured hand.
The next day Madame Pomfrey released you from the infirmary, after removing the cast and telling you to come back if there’s an issue. The boys waited on the other side of the curtain while you dressed in a fresh Ravenclaw uniform that Remus had brought. You walk out from behind the curtain and James hands you your wand, which you slide into the side of your skirt. “Come on, let’s get some breakfast,” James says grabbing your hand and intertwining your fingers. “They’re letting students sit wherever they want for breakfast today,” Peter says from the other side of James as the five of you walk to the great hall for breakfast. “Because a lot of the students are shaken up after this attack,” Remus says as he puts his arm around Sirius to hold him close. Sirius sends a scowl Remus’s way but tucks himself more into his boyfriend anyway. James lifts your conjoined hands and kisses yours as you all walk into the great hall, that looks just as it had yesterday morning as if nothing had happened. Once you all sit down plates of food appear and everyone digs in. James keeps a protective hand on your thigh, squeezing every now and then to remind him you’re still there. He did this every time after an attack to ground himself and remember you haven’t gone anywhere.
