Chapter Text
The grey snow crunched under Wanda's feet as she shuffled back to her dorm room after dinner. It was officially winter break and the campus may as well have been a ghost town save for the few lonely souls with nowhere else to go. Wanda wasn't entirely alone though, her brother, Pietro, kept her company during the days. They had always been thick as thieves while growing up, but the death of their parents and this new life in college only amplified that. Wanda doesn't know what she'd do without Pietro by her side, and she knows that the feeling is mutual.
Once she finally reached her room, Wanda's fingers were almost numb from the chill, and her nose was tinged a rosy pink. She shed her coat and boots before collecting her pajamas and shower supplies then she was off to the community style bathroom to get ready for bed. It's during these moments when Wanda is pleased to be one of the only people on campus, the bathroom is entirely hers.
Wanda took a big sigh as she powered up the hot water. She turned on some soft Christmas music to fill the bathroom with a soft echo. Once she entered the shower and stripped down she took a deep breath and relaxed. It was such a relief to feel the warmth seep into her bones. The heaviness of the holidays paired with the chill in the air left Wanda feeling icy and hollow most days. But under the stream of scorching water, a belly full after a lovely dinner with Pietro, and the peaceful thrumming of the piano music... She feels almost content. It's the best it gets.
As Wanda finished her shower she began to hum along to the music, trying to let it lift her spirits. She truly loved the holidays, but with her family gone she couldn't help but feel the weight of them. Once out of the shower, she wrapped her hair in a towel and pulled her robe around herself in preparation for the rest of her evening routine. She lathered on lotions, oils, and facial products then began to brush her teeth. The process was therapeutic and was exactly what Wanda needed to bring her down for the night.
Before long she was headed back to her room, ready to watch Netflix til she fell asleep. Wanda was almost to her room when all the lights went out. A startled shout almost escaped her, but she bit it back and cursed to herself. "Fuck." Wanda murmured while fishing her phone from the pocket of her robe. She switched on the flashlight and called Pietro.
"What is it baby sister?" Her brother grumbled when he answered. Wanda rolled her eyes before replying.
"I'm on my way back to my room from the showers and the power just went out in my building. Do you still have power?" The question came out in an exhausted sigh. She could almost hear Pietro's shrug through the phone as he chuckled.
"Yep. I'm all good over here. Sucks to suck baby sister. Are you alright?" He checks in despite his initial sarcastic response.
"Yeah yeah... I'll be good, I'm gonna keep you on the line til I'm settled in my room though. It's a little creepy here alone at ni-" She was cut off by a shout coming from another hall.
"You better get your ass back here Yelena or so help me!" A flash of blonde bolted past and Wanda almost jumped out of her skin at the sheer speed of this stranger. The blonde shot a look at Wanda, mild panic in her eyes.
The blonde lunged toward Wanda, "I'm Yelena, maybe let me in your room?" Wanda gaped at her then nodded and paced over to her door, unlocking it. "Thanks." Yelena spoke out. Before Wanda could do anything else she heard her brother trying to get her attention on the phone.
"Wanda are you okay over there? What happened?" Pietro frantically asked. Wanda shook herself out of the slight shock and replied to her worried brother.
"Yeah, I'm okay, just ran into a girl. I'm gonna let you go Piet." And with that she hung up the phone. As Wanda started to approach her room to address her new guest there was a sound at the end of her hall. She glanced over and saw a stunning redhead who began jogging over to her.
Wanda got lost in thought for just a moment. 'She is so hot, and I am so gay...'
The redhead stopped in front of Wanda and gave her a quick smile before letting her eyes settle on Wanda's door, which was slightly ajar.
"Did a tiny annoying blonde just come through here by any chance..?" The newer stranger asked, eyes still trained on the door. Wanda cleared her throat and composed herself,
"Maybe. Why should I tell you though?" The redhead smirked at that and regained eye contact with Wanda.
"Well you see... That blonde is my little sister, and she's been stealing my food. I just think it's fair that she face the consequences of her actions. Now if you don't mind, I'm gonna grab her." Then she paused before resuming her hunt. "My name's Natasha by the way. Give me just a moment." And with that she grinned while slipping past Wanda and into Wanda's room. In less than a second Yelena's strangled cry could be heard from the room and Wanda couldn't help but chuckle at the antics of these two complete strangers.
Then she mumbled to herself, "Holy shit there are two complete strangers in my room... What am I supposed to do now..?" Wanda bit her nails. "I guess just go in? Talk to them? Okay yeah, I'll do that I guess." She stepped into her room and the sight before her was one she doubted she'd ever forget. Natasha was sitting on Yelena, looking victorious all the while Yelena was grumbling and fussing beneath her.
"You're such an asshole Nat!" Yelena groaned as she attempted to wiggle out from under Natasha.
"Okay okay I'll let you free, but only because... Uh, what's your name?" Natasha's sage eyes lit up as they met Wanda's, a childlike questioning resting in her features.
Wanda stuttered out, "Oh yeah, jeez sorry. Wanda. My name is Wanda." She smiled sheepishly toward the sisters.
"That's a lovely name. Wanda." Natasha glanced back at her sister, "As I was saying, I will free you now so that we can leave Wanda be. I'm sure she wants to get to bed." And Natasha gracefully hopped off of her sister, extending her hand down to offer help.
Yelena smacked said hand and muttered, "Suka..." The beautiful redhead simply chuckled in response. She then turned toward Wanda, taking a small step toward her.
"Wanda, are you staying here for the entire break?" She asked, a little hope filling her voice.
Wanda scratched her neck then glanced at her toes before making eye contact with Natasha once again. "Yeah I'm not going anywhere. My twin brother and I will just be hanging out. Will you be staying on campus?"
Natasha's smile only grew, "Yeah, I am. Yelena here is stuck with me, we'll be spending most of our time at my apartment. Would you want to hang out maybe? Your brother would be welcome of course." A flash of shyness graced Natasha's features for a brief moment. "Or not, that would be totally fine too-"
"I'd love to!" Wanda interrupted before the redhead could continue with her rambling. She went to her desk to grab a pen, "Here..." She scribbled her number on Natasha's palm. "Just text me, maybe we can all go get lunch or something." Natasha grinned glancing down at her hand. As she was about to speak, the lights came back on.
"Well would ya look at that." Yelena tutted to no one in particular.
Natasha cleared her throat, "Okay thanks for this-" she spoke while gesturing to her own hand. "I will definitely text you. Hopefully we'll see each other around soon. Have a good night Wanda."
Yelena threw a small wave and said, "Bye Wanda, thanks for letting me use your room. Sorry for crashing your evening. See ya around!" Wanda giggled softly to herself.
"Bye Yelena, see ya." And then she looked over to Natasha, "And no problem, I'll let Pietro know. We'll see you soon. Goodnight Natasha."
At that, Natasha smiled brightly then followed after Yelena, closing the door behind her. Now that her surprise guests had vacated the room, Wanda tossed herself onto the bed and stared at the ceiling. She had begun reflecting on the evening. What an odd evening it was, but she wasn't disappointed by the outcome. It seems as though Wanda has found herself some new friends, and for that she can't complain even a little. Before long she was drifting to sleep, thoughts of green eyes and red hair lulling her peacefully into unconsciousness.
