There is a reason most of Konoha’s shinobi believe in the curse of lucky 7’s. So it is no surprise that once all of the original members of Team Kakashi reunite it doesn’t take long for the unexpected to happen. Just days from Naruto’s return they sat in their usual training grounds after morning practice relaxing when the boys’ argument and the subsequent grappling match ended up dislodging Shikako from her spot where she was working on her version of hiraishin. Kakashi tried to save the situation by catching her but it was already too late. All four of them used some chakra while in contact with the seal and ended up activating it.
That is how they ended up in a completely different location with only the supplies they had on them and very little idea of where they were. To make matters worse they used up a lot of chakra to travel and as if that was not bad enough they seemed to have been damaged.
“Dear little Shikako-chan, would you happen to know what happened?” Kakashi asked too sweetly.
Looking at her seal she explained everything that she knew. “Well… as you know I’ve been working on the Hiraishin and it happens to be a space and time fuinjutsu. As a matter of fact, I was experimenting with the time aspect of it so it is likely that we not only travelled through space but time as well.” She added sheepishly. “And the moment I was knocked over I accidentally smudged the user's part. Seems like that part can actually affect the appearance of the user. Who would have thought, right?”
With most of their chakra used up and no idea where or when they were, Team 7 had no choice but to find shelter where no one would find them and rest before they could investigate their current circumstances. As soon as they are recovered enough they go collect information and decide to stick around for a little bit. After all, it will take Shikako some time to redo the seal to something that would not cause more trouble than they already were in. And if their presence there causes the universe to split into multiple dimensions... So be it.
