Shock was an understatement. She didn’t expect this to happen, after all the indifference that he showed towards her - this is not really happening, am I dreaming? Jang Gyeoul you can now wake up from this wonderful dream.
She pinches herself, as much as she wants to stay in this dream she still has patients to check at one in the morning. Is this the effect of a 3 days straight night shift? Jang Gyeoul, you need to wake up. He is still hugging and caressing her back lovingly, she loosen up the hug and rubs her eyes trying to wake herself from this beautiful dream.
“Gyeoul-ah” he calls her sweetly and you can see the longing and longing in his eyes. She pinches herself again. “Lord, are you now punishing me for having a crush on a priest-to-be?”
He cannot help but chuckle in her reaction, “Gyeoul-ah what are you doing to yourself” he asks “Why do you keep on pinching yourself hmm?” he caresses the part of her arm that she keeps on pinching.
“Ahn Gyosumin , I am not dreaming right?” she innocently asks him. She cannot believe that her confession was answered by a kiss. It’s like a beautiful dream for her.
When his mom, Jung Rosa met her at the hospital garden and told her his plans of going to Italy and that his son likes him, she didn’t believe it. He never showed any affection towards her, in fact he was cold to her.
She was hesitant, she had a sleepless night thinking if she would confess her feelings and just kept it to herself, his going to Italy anyways.
But she finally had the courage to tell him, she had no expectations, she just wanted him to know about her feelings. Nothing more and nothing less, so when she felt his soft lips in her lips, she felt like she was dreaming.
He let out a hearty laugh again, “Gyeoul-ah, you are too adorable. No you are not dreaming” he confirms it.
So if I am not dreaming, he really kissed me? Ahn Gyosumin really kissed me?????
She stares at his lips, Okay, so we really kissed and this is not a dream. Should I try it again?
She cannot believe that this is really reality and she wants to confirm it. Gyeoul tiptoed and placed both of her hands on his neck. She closed the gap between them and kissed him.
Ahn Jeongwon responds to her kiss, the peck kiss led into a long and passionate kiss. She breaks the kiss and looks at him, “Okay, I am not really dreaming. I am kissing my crush” she confesses, which earned a blush and laugh from him.
“Gyeoul-ah what am I going to do with you?” He hugs her tight, “You are too adorable”
“You should keep me then Gyosumin ” she bravely answers and earned another laugh from him.
Jang Gyeoul is staring at their intertwined hands, she saw his hands a couple of times and also witnessed all the miracles it did (saving little kids life) she feels like everything is just a beautiful dream, his big hands and her small hands - it’s like a puzzle perfect fits as if it was made for her.
“Gyeoul-ah” he calls her again, now he can freely call him with affection and with whatever he wants to address her. Should I call her Jagiya? Yeobo? My Gyeoulie? My love?
Again he is smiling, finally he can drop the formality and now thinking what will be the best call of endearment he will address her but for now calling her Gyeoul-ah is enough - Small Steps.
She snaps back to reality and looks at him, “After this shift will be your day off right?” he asks.
“Ne, gyosumin but how did you know?”
“I know your schedule Gyeoul-ah” he confesses, he’s been monitoring her schedule since the time he decided to stay at the hospital. He wanted to tell her about his feelings but she beat her.
She smiles with the revelation. She has a lot of questions in her mind but for now she wants to enjoy this moment.
“Gyeoul-ah, do you have plans for tonight?” he asks her.
“Why Gyosumin ?”
“I’ll buy you dinner tonight, Just the two of us, outside the hospital and not in these scrubs but in our personal clothes” he nervously told her, those were the same words that she said when she asked him to buy her dinner a few months ago.
“ Gyosunim , I have plans with my mom” she told him with a straight face.
“Really?” He pouts, he was hopeful and a bit disappointed but he doesn’t want her to know. He doesn’t want to scare her.
So this is what Lee Gyosumin tells me, “Jeongwonie, he is petty and acts very different when he with the people he is comfortable with”
Satisfied with his reaction, “Just kidding, gyosumin I am free tonight. Where are we going to eat?” She looks at him with a beaming smile, the thought of food is already making her happy.
He burst out laughing and pats her head like what he does with his little patients, “I’ll let you know later but you can eat anything right?” she nodded.
Their little bubble was interrupted by Gyeoul’s phone alarm.
“ Gyosumin , that’s my cue I need to check the patients” she turns off the alarm and stood up from the couch.
“ Arraseo , don’t overwork yourself hmm” he reminds her. He knows she has the tendency to overwork herself, he saw it many times and it frustrates him that he cannot take care of her.
But now, since he crossed the line he can freely take care of her and he is willing to do anything and everything for her.
“But Gyosumin, are we hmm” she mumbles, she wanted to ask something but she was hesitant.
“What Gyeoul-ah” he sensed the anxiety that she was feeling, he was worried about her, “Hmm, you can tell me anything” he assured her.
She was hesitant but she wanted to know. She doesn’t want to assume things not even after they kiss, she wants to know and to hear it from him.
“What are we gyosumin?” she rubs the back of her neck. Jeongwon noticed that she does it when she feels awkward or bothered.
He clears his throat, walks near her closing the gap in between them, “Nomu Joah Jang Gyeoul” he finally confesses.
“I don’t know when it started, maybe when I saw you happily munching the choco pies? Or during our first surgery together? I really don’t know Gyeoul-ah.
All I know is that I wanted to take care of you and keep you safe.
When I saw you running after the abusive dad, I was frightened, you scared me. Instead of asking you if you are fine, I asked you to assist me in the OR since that’s the only way I know that I can protect you.
It was not easy, I keep on denying my feelings towards you that it gives me terrible headaches. My childhood dream is to be a priest like my elder siblings. Everything was planned well but you suddenly came into my life Gyeoul-ah.
When you were rushed to the ER because of your menstrual cramps, I wanted to visit you and hold you into my arms but I can’t. I stayed outside the ER for an hour since I am still in denial with my feelings. I am really sorry, you had a hard time because of me.
Gyeoul-ah but now I promise you I will make it up to you. I will love you with all my heart hmm.
He confesses, he should have done it before kissing her.
He doesn’t want to confuse her anymore, she deserves to hear his confession.
They kissed again, he lost count of how many times he kissed her that night but he doesn’t mind. No more holding back he had enough, starting tonight he will no longer suppress his feelings and affection towards her.
Their kiss was interrupted by Gyeoul’s alarm again, “I really have to go know gyosumin ” she pouts, they both don’t want to end this day.
“ Arraseo , go ahead Dr Jang” he says but he hugs her tighter,
“ Gyosumim ” she mumbles, “I need to go hmm” he finally loosen the hug and Gyeoul is already holding the knob of his door but she halted, “ Gyosumin ” he looks at her.
“ Nado, Nomu Joah , Go home safely. Merry Christmas Gyosumin ” she says and her eyes twinkling with so much joy and love.
Ahn Jeongwon stared at her in awe, not finding the right words to say, he was speechless.
